IDEA: No - color maneuvers

After reading through the new FAQ and looking at the new way of resolving a red maneuver for a stressed ships I started to think that no-color maneuvers or movements should be introduced.

How could that work?

Any non movement and non action re-positioning that involves usage of a maneuver template (especially: De-cloack; Tractor Beam (small ships); Ion "drifting"; Stressed ship "drifting") is considered as a no color maneuver (Ion and Stressed ships red maneuver) or re-positioning as with barrel roll or boost actions (de-cloack and tractor beam). Color of a no color maneuver cannot be altered by any skills or upgrades (unless specifically identified as no color)*.

Thanks to such errata we may avoid any interactions with any skills or upgrades that require a maneuver [of a specific color] to be completed, while still applies to skills that does not denote the color as a condition (like Snap Shot, Anti-Pursuit Lasers, Ion Projector, Cpt Oicunn).

In my opinion that would nicely clear up any rules lawyering and confusions around executing maneuvers that are not those in fact, but due to the unfortunate wording they are treated as if they were. That would buff up a little the Ion mechanism, however it has a little impact nowadays and I think a little buff will do only good to it. At the same time it has no significant impact on other of mechanisms that it refers to, while it clearly sorts how it has to be treated. It also opens up a new option for design in future.

Please, let me know what do you think about it? Is it worth to shout at designers to read through this? If you think that anyhow it may help please leave a comment - that will be the best way for designers to notice that this may be something valuable. :) And have a good day!

* Just in case they ever wanted to introduce a pilot or upgrade that is having a direct interaction with Ion / Tractor mechanizm).

There are currently easy, neutral, and hard maneuvers. Some abilities turn neutral into easy. Some abilities reduce the penalties of hard. And some effects make various maneuvers more difficult. All are clearly defined. So we're good there.

Repositioning actions and effects already aren't maneuvers unless otherwise stated so those are a non-issue too.

White = your "no color" as there is no special rule applied when performing a white. Actions/abilities and effects are already separate from maneuvers. No changes needed.

id be interested in seeing some new colours - like "Black" and "Blue"


Black could be - receive one damage
Blue could be - receive one ion token

There is a number of abilities that changes the difficulty of a maneuver (R2 astro, Nien Numb, etc.) and there is a number of abilities that refers executing a maneuver (Snap Shot) and there is a number of effects that would like to be somewhere in between a maneuver and not maneuver and that stills seems not that clear for me and will be the same in future if any other similar mechanism is introduced.

Every effect such as de-cloacking or tractor beam has to be described separately. Why not label them altogether as they do have major similarities?
