Wingman/Kyle Combo

By emmjay, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok, so now if you have Kyle Crew on a ship equipped with Wingman, and that ship removes a stress from another ship with Wingman, the Wingman ship can add a focus token, as that ship is the ship removing the stress token.

So, then, does it stand to reason that if I have Kyle on a ship (say, Dash) and another ship with Wingman removes the stress on Kyle's ship, then Kyle no longer procs, as the Wingman ship is removing the stress and not Kyle's ship.......

Dang.

This is a head scratcher for me. No one should get the focus token based on the wording of the two cards. Kyle should never trigger when Wingman removes stress, regardless of which ship Kyle is riding in. Even if the ship with Wingman is the ship that counts as removing the stress it still doesn't hit Kyle's trigger of "After you remove a stress token from your ship". Sure you removed stress, but it was from a ship other than yours.

Kanaan and Epsilon leader also seem to be worded the same way as Wingman so ships with effects that trigger when they remove stress don't trigger when the stress is removed by those abilities from another ship.

I can see where they were going with Wingman, but the interaction with Kyle is confusing and makes no sense. Kyle's "After you remove a stress token from your ship..." and Wingman is "another friendly ship" are clearly two separate ships.

I think this might be another of those really short-lived FAQ entries. :(

From a similar logic, would Latts Razzi removing a stress to evade not trigger Kyle?

It shouldn't.

EDIT: I just realized that my response could be interpreted either way, I meant that Latts should work the same way as Wingman and Kyle should not trigger.

I'm pretty sure they were trying to clarify that wingman on a different ship will not trigger Kyle, but they goofed and wrote an faq legalizing something the cards don't support.

The FAQ entry should probably look more like this:

"The ship with Wingman equipped is the ship that is removing the stress token. Therefore, a ship with Kyle Katarn (crew) is not assigned a focus token after it has a stress token removed by another friendly ship equipped with Wingman"

I emailed Frank to make sure he was aware of the issue with the FAQ. I have no clue if emailing him directly is the best way to get this fixed.

Just realized that this ruling also affects the interaction between Kyle and Kanan. Under FAQ 4.2.2, a ship with Kanan crew can obtain a focus for clearing stress on a ship with Kyle crew.

New FAQ was just released that fixed the typo.

'The ship with Wingman equipped is the ship that is
removing the stress token. Therefore, if a ship with
Wingman removes a stress token from another friendly
ship that is equipped with Kyle Katarn (crew), that ship
is not assigned a focus token from Kyle's ability.'
