Kanan/Daredevil threadIn response to your rules question:
For the most part that is safe to say. The only effect it really has it makes clear that the stress is assigned during the “Execute Maneuver” step so things that trigger “after executing a maneuver” would trigger when the ship is stressed. The sentence in Lightning Reflexes that assigns the stress token references the "Check Pilot Stress" step, which (in the current rules) has already passed by the time Lightning Reflexes can trigger. Should we be ignoring the "after the Check Pilot Stress step" part of that sentence now?
Lightning Reflexes does happen within Execute Maneuver, per Frank
So let me get this straight...
Lightning Reflexes:
After you execute a white or green maneuver on your dial, you may discard this card to rotate your ship 180°.
Then receive 1 stress token after the "Check Pilot Stress" step.
Activation Phase
- Reveal Dial
- Execute Maneuver
- Move Ship
- Check Pilot Stress
- Per card text, stress is received here
- Clean Up
- Per card text, LR should trigger here
- Perform Action
Yeah, that's weird. The card should be errata'd / rewritten because those timings require time travel!
However, I don't think there is any confusion as to how the card is to be used, nor does Frank's email response have any impacts on any other cards / effects.
Speaking of the email, I think Frank just didn't word his response in the clearest way possible.
"For the most part that is safe to say."
He's agreeing with you. IE: You can for the most part ignore the "after the "Check Pilot Stress" step" bit.
"The only effect it really has it makes clear that the stress is assigned during the “Execute Maneuver” step so things that trigger “after executing a maneuver” would trigger when the ship is stressed."
And then he explains why you can *mostly* ignore it. He's saying that it is only on the card to make it 100% clear that the stress is received:
- at some point after Check Pilot Stress
- before any other "after executing a maneuver" effects (Dauntless, Kanan, etc?)
I mean, for most intents and purposes, "after Check Pilot Stress" and "After executing a maneuver" are the same timing. The only difference between the 2 triggers is that anything "after Check Pilot Stress" must resolve before "after executing a maneuver" abilities trigger.
I think the card could be errata'd to say this and remain functionally the same:
Lightning Reflexes:
After you execute a white or green maneuver on your dial and before any other "after executing a maneuver" abilities, you may discard this card to rotate your ship 180°. Then receive 1 stress token.
Or this, which is probably even better:
Lightning Reflexes:
While executing a white or green maneuver on your dial, you may discard this card to rotate your ship 180° after the "Check Pilot Stress" step. Then receive 1 stress token.
