Kanan Jarrus doesn't work with Daredevil, per Frank

By digitalbusker, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I just got a response to a rules question:

In response to your rules question:

If a ship is equipped with both Kanan Jarrus (crew) and Daredevil, can it treat the "Then, receive one stress token" part of Daredevil's text as a triggered event with the same timing window as Kanan Jarrus and choose to resolve the stress assignment first, so Kanan has something to do? Or do you have to resolve anything that triggers off the maneuver before moving on to the next part of Daredevil?

When using Kanan with respect to Daredevil, Kanan would trigger after the ship executes the maneuver, but before the stress from Daredevil resolves. Kanan’s ability essentially interrupts the card effect or Daredevil.

But with respect to Lightning Reflexes, Kanan would trigger after the ship receives the stress since the entirety of Lightning Reflexes resolves before Kanan’s ability triggers.

I'm not sure about the Lightning Reflexes part--seems to me it doesn't have to fully resolve before the Kanan window, but obviously you'd want to, if you want to use Kanan.

Lightning Reflexes and Kanan Jarrus both have the same trigger, so you choose which one activates first.

And I'm not surprised Kanan doesn't work with Daredevil. Kanan triggering between daredevil and the stress works exactly like I would think it would, as Kanan's ability is specifically "After you execute a maneuver", meaning it gets put right in the middle.

The part about Lightning Reflexes caught my eye because the new Millenium Falcon title is similar. Do you think Kanan will remove stress from the new title, based on that precedent?

seeing as how this is such a funky thing im just going to wait till a faq comes out before i start saying you cant do that.

FAQ needs to just specifically mention it doesnt work on "do a white, take a stress" maneuvers. until then im allowing it.

Yes. Kana should remove the stress from Sloop!Falcons. The trigger is slightly different than for Daredevil or Dampeners - 'after you execute a manouevre gain a stress' is not the same as 'execute a manoeuvre. Then gain a stress' by rules precedent from things like PTL.

The new Falcon title doesn't need the Lightning Reflexes precedent to work with Kanan. In the new MF title, the stress is received as a cost of performing the rotation, so they both happen in the same "after maneuver" trigger window, which means they will unambiguously be done before Kanan resolves, assuming you choose to trigger both the title and Kanan and to resolve them in that order.

tl;dr: Yes, Kanan will work with the new Millenium Falcon title, but not because of this precedent.

Kanan should with the new title. The wording on that card has you do everything after performing a maneuver. It's not a "Perform a maneuver, then do X" ability.

Kanan also lets you choose to clear stress from performing your white 3 bank and then rotate which makes him flexible.

This is a very interesting point that had not yet crossed my mind. Thanks.
