ISB Headquarters is the new map.

By Rogue Dakotan, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I like the Rotation the way it is. Buying 4 maps per year is enough.

That's also why I hate the mousepad maps. It's a very expensive solution to a very minor problem (but we've discussed that at length already).

All it does now is further limit the rotations. At the very least they should be double sided.

I don't think it would be bad for high end play. At that level you should know how to play the game regardless of map.... I think it shows more skill to be able to adapt rather than just build the best list for the given 3 maps and just memorize every strategy.

I'm over simplifying of course, but sometimes we get maps where certain types of lists have a clear advantage.I'd prefer to shake that up a bit more.

The beauty of IA is that we don't have one list dominating everything. And I think map rotations are a big part of that.

At the end of the day, I don't mind putting together some cardboard tiles, and I'd rather do that, then play the same map for 9 months.

Im not very experienced in OP, so I'm asking you personally your opinion. Do you think the maps are different enough that you have to compromise your list to be efficient on all 3?

It's the line of sight that each of the stations have or whatever you call them.

Yes and No.

There's certainly some maps that favor different types of units. Some maps that are better for fast (speed 5+) units. Some maps that are great for long range units (HKs) some maps that are great for Massive blocking figures etc...

In general the maps vary enough that you need to write a more flexible/generic list. Going hard in one direction could be bad on some maps.

For example... having nothing but troopers can be tough for the Dianoga map. Troopers struggle to get through the 3 Block as even their best shot will only do 2 damage. Same can be said for a melee list as they will be getting close and taking damage from the Dianoga.

It's more about adjusting your battle plan to account for your list's strengths and weaknesses. In the above examples you'd normally ignore the Dianoga and put pressure/damage on the enemy instead. Other lists might like to go hard and get as many points as they can from the Dianoga as early as possible and get a head start.

Some lists like the Smuggler box, love sitting in a corner and waiting for the enemy. But on a map with lots of spread out objectives, they might struggle to keep up on points.

On One Man's Trash, you might have a faster list with smugglers or mobile units, so you might want to focus more on collecting the crates rather than fighting.

There's certainly enough difference in the maps that they do affect list writing to some extent.

I think once Warzone rotates out, we might see less use of units that self focus, like Sorrin droids. They are still solid lists, but they lose that one super strong mission that they had before.

I think the new ISB headquarters map will see more use of melee units. Maybe wookies might see more use. There's lots of corners to hid behind, two of the objectives are very close to each other, and the two doors let you get really close without taking any fire. The long narrow corridors are also very scary for Banthas and Rancors. Lots of blocking opportunities, not as much room to spread out. Could start seeing more blast too.

Another example might be the difference between speed 4 and speed 5. Some maps, the 5 will get you to a terminal, while 4 wont. Sometimes the 5 will get you through a door and to the terminal while 4 wont. The Warzone map has a bit of that. Having Speed 5 means you can reach and pick up more objectives than speed 4 units on the first turn. So that can be an advantage sometimes and stuff like that makes things like Hired Guns or eSabs more useful. Same goes for using your officer/gideon extra movement points efficiently. It's also one of the reasons that officers are so popular, because Imps don't have any speed 5 non hero units apart from royal guard.

The best lists are usually the most flexible and most versatile. That goes for composition, synergy etc.. as well as map considerations. One usually comes with the other. A well rounded list will usually be well rounded for most maps too. So it's not always a consideration, but often it can be a by-product of good list writing anyway.

The red deployment zone has their terminal out of LOS

it looks easier to defend as well.

Blue can dump everything on the objective holder and duck behind cover

This map is actually very small, so tough Melee may start showing up more frequently. Obiwan will be awesome in this map

Lots,of these deployment zones have little nooks where Jabba would fit, but you'll notice that he won't be able to leave them due to impassible terrain. Nelvaniaan Warzone, ISB, has this as do some others

Excellent post. Thank you for your insight

The bottom most red square looks off (no LOS), otherwise this is awesome. Looks like a fight to get that left objective.

I think the bottom most red square can be seen in it's two rightmost corners, assuming you can draw line of sight through the figure occupying that square..

Yeah the bottom red square is fine. Bottom right corner of the objective can see the bottom right corner of that red square and the top right corner of that red square.

You can always draw sight through the figure occupying the target spot.

The left objective is closer to blue deployment but can shoot at the blue side terminal. Other than that the map is almost symmetrical.

I actually like it a lot. The holocam mission is interesting and raises some fun decisions about whether or not to shoot at the cams or whether to hid from them. It seems like 2 or 3 points don't matter much but they stack up quick over a few rounds.

Melee characters are useful again and massive figures are very scary. Blast is significant too and even large stuff like wampas and nexus are going to be great at blocking corridors. I had a lot of fun with Obi-wan on this map.

I'm going to a tournament tomorrow and it seems everyone agrees that we'll be dumping Training Grounds and just using this map. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Does this map have special corners? IE: the tile just above the red deployment zone has different shapes in it's inner corners than regular tiles (same happens in other places of the map). Does this corners provide extra cover compared to regular ones and prevent LOS or is it just the drawing and my mind has blown for no reason?

In my opinion this is, by far, the best map to join the rotation, so much fun playing it.

Thank you Nick. I should have figured that out.
