Sabine Wren (crew) question about when to apply the Range 1 check

By Weirdneal, in X-Wing Rules Questions

A question came up about when Sabine Wren's (crew) triggers and when the Range 1 stipulation is checked to deal an extra damage.

A ship revealed a 5-forward maneuver, and the end of the maneuver template overlapped a Connor Net token. Per Connor Net, "When a ship's base or maneuver template overlaps this token, this token detonates."

The ship hadn't been moved yet, but the template was laid, the bomb detonated, is to be removed from play, which then triggered Sabine's ability, "Once per round, before a friendly bomb token is removed, choose 1 enemy ship at Range 1 of that token. That ship suffers 1 damage."

So my question is, is the ship that laid its template on the bomb considered to be in Range 1 of the token and able to be targeted by Sabine or not? (The ship hadn't moved yet, and was outside of Range 1 from the token.)

I don't think you're allowed to interrupt the actually-physically-moving-the-ship-model part of Execute a Maneuver. Put another way, you don't check for maneuver template overlaps until after the final position of the ship is determined. (Support: if you lay down a five straight and the far end of it clips a Debris Cloud, but because of an overlap your final position is farther back, you don't consider the portion of the maneuver template that you didn't use when checking for obstacle effects.)

You would check the range from the Conner Net to the final position of the ship whose maneuver caused it to detonate.

Can we just rename this forum "Questions for digitalbusker" already?
