Grenades and the meaning of "adjacent"

By Marximus, in Tannhauser

I got Tannhauser for Christmas and am just starting to review the combat rules. On page 22, the rules state that a grenade affects, "each character, friend or foe, standing on a circle adjacent to the blast..." However, in combat example 4 on page 18, both John and Eva appear to be separated from the blast by at least one circle (the red movement symbol) but still suffer hits. How are they both adjacent to the blast?

The image I am seeing is correct.

Karl throws the grenade (the space that contains the debris counter) and there are 3 cirecles adjacent to that space. 1 is empty. 1 contains Eva. 1 contain John MacNeal. Also marked with the yellow kaboom marker.

Thanks. I was having trouble because the distance between the spaces was not identical. I found a file on Board Game Geek which illustrates the adjacent squares on both sides of the map so now I see what you are saying.
