Torn between 2 big ships - Kessel Run

By taulover55, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey Guys

I have a Kessel Run tournament coming up on Friday and was looking at switching up my regular Kessel Run Build (the Ion Ghost failed massively - not as much as a Bounty Hunter though)

I've decided i'd rather go tanky than Troll with Chopper and ion and have come up with the following. List has to be max of 65 points and big ship only (a slamming Miranda would have been my best choice had i not had to stick with the big ship rule.

Kanan Jarrus/VCX-100 (38)

Experimental Interface (3)

Lando Calrissian (3)

Recon Specialist (3)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

Fire-Control System (2)

i like this list as in a normal 100 pt game, sit at range three and evade and Lando or stick it in range 1-2 and then focus with Lando - quite tanky and frustrates the hell out of your opponent. no Boost option though

Rear Admiral Chiraneau/VT-49 Decimator (46)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Dauntless (2)

Rebel Captive (3)

Emperor Palpatine (8)

Lone Wolf (2)

I've not had a lot of play time with the Deci but think this could be interesting to run. still has a 4 white and 3 dice PWT but with Palp, Rebel captive an EU could be fun to troll a bit with.

Any thoughts on what you would take out/replace/run? Last time Boba won it slow and steady. we had lothal rebel, contracted scout, boba, dengar and something else but no Imp stuff (i was tempted with the space cow for the lolz)

Only trouble with this build is that you are heavily reliant on the VCX's meagre 4 greens to clear stress and that makes you very predictable. I can see it working well in a larger list where you can afford someone like Cracken with Wingman to help shift stress and even grant extra actions.

going from the last Kessel run encounter i had, Nien Numb crew worked wonderfully (there where random Ion stuff hanging around so clearing stress on that 1 move was great. you are all trying to traverse 4 playmats with various obstacles with the person who has flown the furthest winning, you do end up just trying to blow up your opponents though.

the other build i think of is this one, its fun but then all large bases so takes a bit to ion them.

Trolling Chopper
VCX-100,
Chopper
Fire-Control System (2)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Ion Torpedoes (5) Ordnance token
Extra Munitions (2)
Nien Nunb (1)
Sabine Wren (2)
Ion Projector (2)
Conner Net (4)

I'm not familiar with this kessel run, but it does sound like fun; where can I find more info about it?

I might try to push for one of these at my lgs

i'll see if i can dig up the rules sometime i think it may be one that our TO has drempt up.

Basically your set up 4 mats and each one has different obstacles to overcome.

Mat 1 had Asteroids set out, all just outside of Range 1 of each other with no restrictions other than board edge (had to leave a range 1 width to the edge)

Mat 2 had capital ships (one of each epic ships) moving across the board in a random direction (blind spinning of the dial worked and caused hilarious shenanigans!) Capital ships had no actions other than unlimited Ion Torps. they would always shoot the nearest ship in torp range (and wipe out ships with their tail)

Mat 3 was loaded with Proximity mines (same placement as the Asteroids on Mat 1) but each caused you to be ionised if hit

Mat 4 was Debris again same setup as mat 1

on all mats without capital ships there where Satellites that you could scan instead of shooting which had a 50/50 chance of Ionising you or Boosting you, (Boba managed to hit about 7 in a row of Boost) pre-shuffled reference cards drawn for it.

It is really good fun if you have a number of players, Setup was on the short edge with lowest PS setting up far Left hand side and then next PS level and then next.
