Just getting into the game

By gnarlicide, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Okay, back story: I have been collecting ships for this game for a little over a year. I have a rather expansive (and expensive) fleet of ships.

I finally am learning how to play.

Now to the present:

Here is a list that I have developed that I would like to have picked apart and tuned. As I would like to start playing competitively soon.

Also, if any of you are interested in some casual dogfights, and are in the DC area, let me know! I gotta learn to fly.

LIST:

TIE Defender - Countess Ryad + Push the Limit + TIE/X7 + Twin Ion Engine MKII (36 PTS)

SF TIE - Quickdraw + Twin Ion Engine MKII + Special Ops Training + Collision Detector + Wired (31 PTS)

SF TIE - Backdraft + Veteran Instincts + Fire Control System + Sensor Cluster + Special Ops Training (32 PTS)

Total should be at 99 points

What I am going for is a squad that can hit hard and doesnt need to stick together, (formation flying is not something i have picked up yet). I want to disrupt and destroy. No synergies between craft.

go ahead, give me some advice!

Being this new, I think almost evryone would say to go ahead and run with it. Fly the hell out of the list and have fun with it. Don`t sweat the small stuff yet. Also, at a glance, the list looks just fine.

welcome to the team!

Despite the lack of love apparent for the TIE/sf, I like your list. A lot of spread for firing each round with a lot of tools to help along.

Although, Ryad doesn't *really* need PtL, even with the range of green on the dial. I'd maybe give her Predator, but to be honest your list looks great!

Thanks for the love. I dig the words of encouragement so far.

are there enough folks running low PS ships to really capitalize running Predator?

thanks again for the responses.

Who knows? We don't know your local meta very well. And for casual games, then whatever.

I too would drop PtL on Ryad.

Have a game-plan, practice it and tweak accordingly.

I wish some of my newby list were this adaptable.

In my early days I had this list of Vrill (HLC), Stressbot & Jan Ors. It hit like a truck if I played the opening moves extremely well, but if that failed then it was hard work, and also people in my local group worked out that Vrill was the lynch pin, and it stopped working. Was fun while it lasted, and that was the main thing. I also like its originality.

The truth is, I am a competitive MTG player mainly. So I tend to do more reading about a new game before I dump a bunch of funds into it. Then after I build a list (or deck, depending on the game). Furthermore, I play a specific deck in MTG called "Jund", which is a stack of the "best stuff in the game". It has absolutely no synergies and plays the attrition game with your opponent. Its easy, mindless and right up my alley. Which is something that I am trying to achieve in X-Wing.
