I am going to play it, I don't understand the issue with the TCG model to each their own. Its very hard to find tournaments for IA so hopefully destiny will be able to have a better following.
Who is interested in Star wars: Destiny?
I am going to play it, I don't understand the issue with the TCG model to each their own.
What's not to like about TCG model?
Random rarities, requiring multiple purchases to get playsets of best cards?
Expansions so frequent you have to buy to keep up with meta?
Inevitable phasing out of sets to open up market to new joiners making old sets no longer "legal"?
Mr briefcase who buys everything and acts like you're worse than him for not collecting four of every play set?
Inevitable foils and ultra rares that cost stupid amounts of money to get on EBay?
Bitten by that bug once, shame on them.
Bitten twice, shame on me.
but each to their own

I play IA for both campaign and skirmish, I thoroughly enjoy the game but for skirmish OP is hard to find, I would love to play both (skirmish and campaign) more. Looking at if practically IA core plus wave 1 cost more than 2 starters and 1 gravity feed. The entry point is not that big of a deal. So if this game that I can get to the table much more often because I don't have to build maps each time I want to play and its much smaller of a travel footprint and will possibly have a bigger following I don't care its a TCG model. and also to each of your points
I don't have to have playlets of every card Im not collecting the game I am playing it.
Expansions so frequent as what? every 3 months? Thats fine to me but I highly doubt it will be that frequent
If I am playing long enough for that to happen I got more then my money worth and obviously I enjoy the game
Why do I care about Mr. Briefcase? I am not here to collect I am here to play the game
This doesn't bother me at all.
What we want out of a game is different, as I said before to each their own
Inevitable phasing out of sets to open up market to new joiners making old sets no longer "legal"?
That's a bit of a disingenuous claim. There's been no news at all about Destiny's rotation policy - but it makes sense to look at the LCGs.
FFG has a rotation policy for their LCGs - when the 8th Cycle is released, the first two cycles rotate out. So given that there's around 2 Cycles a year, that means that any given card has a life of 4 years - compared to say MTG, where a card's life is around 18 months.
Dude, you're welcome to play whatever you want.
I was just listing issues with the tcg model.
Your reasons are your own, but that doesn't change the inherent issues with a tcg model for a game
Imagine if Imperial Assault had a TCG model...
"Oh wow, you have a Darth Vader? I haven't even seen one of those!"
"Yeah, but you have a Gold Royal Guard Champion, those are super rare."
"Dude, full disclosure, I just painted a regular RoGuChamp gold."
Seriously, that's what I love about this game. You get what you want- outside of con awards, there aren't any bank busting items.

Dude, I know I am, as are you. Now that we have that out the way
As jonboyjon stated, a little disingenuous. A LOT of people don't find issue with the model at all more so then those that do.

Taking your example, IA wave 1 and core set cost more then 2 starters and a gravity feed. If I open one of those crazy foil mythic rares I can make my money back and keep all e rest of the product, this is bad why? A competitive skirmish list is not cheap and no matter what will never have a good resale value.

Yeah, why spend your paycheck on rent when you could splurge on lottery tickets, win a million dollars, and pay your rent with the pocket change you've won?
My point isn't essentially that IA's model is cheaper, but that it is reliably cheaper. That is, you're going to be putting a lot of money up front, but you know exactly what you're getting. You can get some pretty cool stuff in CCGs, don't get me wrong- I'm a long time player of MTG. But, unless you're into buying singles online, you're taking a gamble every time. You can never count on getting that "crazy foil mythic rare." You might not ever even get it.
edit: Also, I'd like to point out that I don't see this as a problem with CCGs- it's not usually my preferred model of choice, but to each their own. I'm just pointing out how frustrating this model would be with IA.

I agree with you, I just want to say unless you are rare chasing in a tcg your point of entry is less, with a possibility of making money back. I am going to play the game anyway and IF I open something worth money BONUS not necessity to play the game. As you said you can never count on it, and there is always the option for buying singles so you know exactly what you are getting which you will know exactly how much to spend for what. I think this is best of both worlds...

I bought two crates of the Bounty Hunters boosters looking for Boba Fett, Bounty Hunter. I never got him. I ended up having to pay $50 on miniature market. Never got a Han Solo, Scoundrel either, but I had a metric butt-ton of Aqualish assassins. I probably haven't exceed just that series in cost for IA, and I have 70% of the blisters. Booster Packs were like $11 in 2004 money. When I buy a blister pack in IA I know what I'm getting.
Still have gazillion Star Wars CCG cards from Decipher ... never again
I don't think there's much merit in comparing SW: Destiny to IA.
Probably better to compare Destiny to an LCG.
An LCG has around 180 cards in a core set, and 120 cards in a cycle. To get a playset of the core and the cycle it'd be Core set x3, packs x1(x6)
So that's around (using UK RRPs) £35 per core set x3 = £105 for the core set playset
packs £14 x6 = £84 for a cycle.
Now for Destiny you've got 174 cards in the first set. To get a playset of cards and dice you've got to get:
Each of 2 Starters x2 = £14 *4 = £56
Awakenings booster box = £105
And obviously that'll get you no where close to a playset of everything - although there is trading of course...
But the bottom line is that an LCG will get you a playset of everything for far cheaper than Destiny will
I'll at least be getting one of each starter and some of the little packs to see what I think. And then decide if I feel like going farther with it.
Sounds like a good mix of No Yes and Maybe! I have never actually tried a CCG before. That is why I am excited for this one!
