wookiee pelts

By HistoryGuy, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

How much are wookiee skins worth?

Too much and not enough.

Supply and Demand.

Whats the quality?

Whos buying?

Where are they buying?

Or.

What do the PCs want for them?

What does the GM want to buy them for?

What was the result on the Negotiation/Charm roll?

Basically... who knows...

Sorry!

I would think they're worth at least a broken jaw and dislocated shoulder if someone rolls a Despair on anything in the spaceport at the wrong time.....

Kashmyyyr is a better market than just pelts. That's fabric made from wookiee hair.

at the least. At worst a wookie could go madclaw on you..

No, not Madclaw. Just rip your various limbs off, one-by-one. Slowly.

Wookiee pelts are fairly monstrous things to be trading in; right up there with grave goods, humanoid ears, and snuff tridios. Given that most sentients would find them abhorrent, your target market consists of perverts and sociopaths - a fairly limited slice of society (murderhobos aside). Since obtaining the raw materials is extremely difficult and consists of y'know, murdering someone, possession should result in extremely stiff penalties in most of your Core and Mid-Rim worlds. I'd think that the price would be near the top end of the spice trade scale, but that finding a buyer would be the really hard part. Out on the fringes, the law is less inclined to care, but you're much more likely to run into a Wookiee ex-pat, in my opinion.

I'd wish you good luck, but frankly I'm rooting for the Wookiees. Watch your back.

AFAIK there is no set price, but I'd say something around 250 credits might be good starting value. Because Wampa skin rug is 250 credits. (source: Long arm of Hutt, page 11)

I kind of think this as exact opposite. Empire doesn't care, but outer rim people might care. (p.s. we are both rooting for wookiees. Our difference is that I think rebellion would care more than empire. When has representative of empire made a morally good decision?)

Personal feeling regarding wookiees aside, Empire is racist and probably doesn't care much about wookiee's life, except as slave. IMO Rebellion cares much more about wookiees.

Wookieepedia says about wookies: "Following the establishment of the Galactic Empire, the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk was blockaded by the Empire. Many Wookiees were forced into slavery due to their strength, sent to be worked to death in the dangerous spice mines of the planet Kessel, or on construction sites such as the Death Star, though a number escaped this fate." So I'd say empire doesn't care about life of wookiee's very much. Rebellion is totally other matter. I would actually treat Wookiees better at outer rim than in core worlds, where empire has a strong presence.

Empire isn't racist, they're specist.

And that's only by policy. Most citizens probably don't give a crap.

Xenos that contribute to the Empire are treated worlds differently, see Thrawn.

If my players would trade them then three threat would be enough to get them in serious trouble.

Like lethally so...

Trandoshan would be interested right? Or do they only have use for pelts they harvested themselves?

He belonged to a near-human species though. Chiss are little more than a blue-skinned race of humanity. That must make a big difference.

Kkuja, I see where you're coming from, and while it has merit, I don't think of the "average" Imperial citizen as identical to a generic Imperial Navy officer, TIE pilot, or stormtrooper. Instead, I'm considering someone like a citizen of Corellia/Duro, Bothawui, Brentaal, or Alderaan. Even for a "stereotypical" speciesist Imp, a slave's life has value, and murdering a slave has repercussions (unless of course, that killing was officially sanctioned). I guess my point was that the average cantina patron would be horrified, even if those in power would view it differently.

I think you're right about the official position of the Alliance vs. that of the Empire concerning the value of a Wookiee's life, but my view of the "law" on the fringes is heavily influenced by Firefly, so on an Outer Rim or Hutt Space world, where the only "law" is a warlord or a carefully polite group of armed strangers, I'd expect the "official position" to be somewhat more relaxed.

Perhaps we're just looking at it a little differently.

Malkavian, I could see a young Trandoshan trying to make himself look tougher by using a stolen/purchased pelt. On the other hand, if you're including Jagganath in your Trando mythos, then only trophies they collected themselves would be worthy adornments, I think.

I agree. And you are probably right, and we just look it little differently. There is probably also a personal preference in play here. As a WW2 junkie, I see heavy similarities between nazis (and/or stalinists) and empire. So in my galaxy there are some underlined similarities to nazis in empire (not as much in actions (holocaust etc), but in attitudes (speciesism) and ideology (totalitarian state)). This works in our group, because most players are like me. I don't think there is right or wrong way here.

Bottom line, if it works for you great, use it. Galaxy is so vast our versions could even exists at same time. In OPs case, best thing probably would be to do what's most dramatic and/or cinematic.

I guess it depends where you are and in what company you keep.

Even in our campaign that just finished which got pretty dark at times, the Trandoshan bounty hunter only wore the braids cut off Wookiee bounties.

And it technically left him lying unconscious in a burning building and the Wookiee got their braid back and kicked him in the ribs before exiting through the window.

Basically you can do it if you want to but don't kick up a fuss when you get ripped limb from limb by a rightfully mad Wookiee.

In my particular campaign, Wookiees are hurling towards extension and are classified by the Empire as 'quasi-sapient'; so you could get away with it in most places. On Kashyyyk or one of their few remaining free colonies, it would be a bit unwise.

This was George Lucas' take on the Empire as well. He based the Empire (and Palpatine's) rise to power on directly on the Nazis, right down to the overall aesthetic of the uniforms and calling their shock soldiers "Stormtropers" (the name given to the SS).

This was my thought too. We were doing this mission and the first question was, "Yeah they reek, but how much could they be worth?" In the end they decided to jettison them so they wouldn't get caught with them by civil authorities before they had a chance to unload them.
