EMP for Dash instead of EU?

By Mef82, in X-Wing

Sooo, Dash has this nasty donut hole at R1 when using HLC.

New Ionizing Illicit coming with Sabine's TIE will almost certainly work in R1, and is triggered "instead of performing an attack".

Sounds like a plan? IMHO it'll be much more action-efficient for Dash not to have to fully commit to staying outside R1 at all cost, when going gets tough.

Instead of EU, take the new Illicit, and Countermeasures. Then, if you won't be able to get out of R1 deathtrap even with BR, get focus for defence and TL for the next turn. Then pop Countermeasures, and bathe your enemies with EMP.

Sounds viable?

You can skip your attack to give everything at range 1 of you 2 ion tokens. It's been squinted at heavily, and there have also been previews in other languages where it has been slightly more visible and translation shows that's almost guaranteed what it does. Still don't know the cost though, which will be telling.

Here is the source.

Important to note it is single use.

Middle of the bottom row, starts with (dot) EMP...

Predicted text (the visible pieces are actually very strong hints, as opposed to some other cards):

During the Combat Phase

Instead of performing

attacks, you may discard this

card to as sign 2 Ion tokens

to each enemy at range 1

P.S. Kdubb has beat me to it. I can see that my prediction is also useless now, as Galakta (the polish distributor) has spoiled pretty much entire text, including the number of Ion tokens handed over, and the range restriction (even though the latter was pretty obvious for balance reasons).
Interesting read on other cards of the expansion, too! Thanks Kdubb .

Or just put it on sone ties

Like int agent sabine

Block people off of range 1

I've been considering replacing EU with feedback and anti-pursuit laser. with the introduction of kanan I need engine less than before. I'd rather give potentially 2 damage and block enemy than just giving 2 ions tbh.

I am inclined to agree, I feel Feedback Array is probably a better option if you decide you can live without EU.

The single use of EMP is probably what swings it for me. I would rather take the reusability of FA, even if it does damage me. The YT-2400 has enough health to make it worth trading 1 to put a damage on slippery aces like Soontir. And the simple fact that you have the FA may be enough to dissuade them from trying to doughnut-hole you in the first place.

Why not snuggling compartment and hotshot if you are worried? I think the EU is too good to pass up on, esp. with PTL dash.

Yeah, I feel like the donut hole is why Leebo crew, barrel rolls, and engine upgrade exist. Dash should be able to reliably line up shots with any of those.

Dash's weakness, i.e. the donut hole, is primarily only a weakness against aces that move after him if you are playing him right. That is why you need EU, to get as far away from where they can move to to get you. The OP build has merit in that respect, in that aces will be wary. It's a bit of a one trick pony though, whereas EU is there for keeps. Hmmm.

The Doughnut hole problem is why I prefer Kanan instead of Kyle on Super-Dash. The ability to shed stress on Whites massively opens up the dial and makes it far harder for the enemy to guess where you are going to end up. Even Tie/Ins with Boost and BR can have a hard time staying in Range 1 when you have the entirety of the YT-2400's dial to play with.
