I don't know how effective this would be, but it could be alot of fun. Trick shot is a decent ept. I figure why not construct a ship that benefits from it way more often than it has any right to? So let's start with what does trick shot do:
EPT: Trick Shot:
When attacking you may roll 1 additional attack die if the the shot is obstructed. (0 points)
Alright, a 0 point ept that can increase your attack pool (when taking a less than ideal shot). What that will likely lead to is facing the obstacles with your ship more often, or engaging in the asteroid field rather than in the clear spaces. That could mean on turns beyond the engagement you would have to fly through the obstacles which as we know can damage your ships. I don't want to leave that to chance, so how do we mitigate that?
An easy answer (for me anyway) comes with the new systems upgrade collision detector (plus bringing debris instead of rocks). Since collision detector makes you ignore critical damage from moving through obstacles, debris fields can't damage you. So that takes the damage lottery out of the equation (as much as is possible, other than not flying through rocks but that isn't what we're talking about). There's still a problem here though. Debris stress you, we want actions. How can we do that? Another new toy, Primed thrusters.
This is where things start to become more just for fun though. Primed thrusters is a tech upgrade that costs only 1 point and allows you to boost or barrel roll while stressed (with less than 3 stress tokens). So now the ship you're flying still gets an action while stressed but not something that increases damage consistency (hence for fun). Alright well this sounds like fun and all, but what ship can take this array of upgrades? So far, only 1, the Tie/SF. Let's put one together then:
Omega Specialist 25
-trick shot 0
-collision detector 0
-primed thrusters 1
-Special ops training 0
-Twin Ion Engine mk II 1
So 27 points gets you a ship with native 3 attack, 6 hull/shields, 9 green maneuvers to mitigate the stress of going into debris on purpose, immunity to debris cloud damage, plus one attack die when firing an obstructed shot, and the abillity to barrel roll while stressed even into/through obstacles. With some clever positioning it could throw 2 attacks (front/back) with plus 1 attack die on both. It won't be consistent due to not having modifiers like focus/target lock, which is why it's relegated to for fun, but it could catch your opponents by surprise just by nature of how squirrelly it can be. Try it out in a friendly game sometime. Fly Casual
