Never fly an ORS again.

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

Seriously now the new Falcon comes with falcon stats. Bring out the pancakes.

The first question that comes to me is PS3 generic plus Hotty Copilot or Newbacca? Both are 42 pts.

Interesting.

Pilot provided in the "New Falcon" Box, still uses image of "Old" Falcon with Round Dish.

You used the word "again", implying that it was flown before.

I was hoping they would give some unique YT-1300 with ORS stats. Maybe for the Scum faction FFG?

Honestly, I am fairly certain that a Outer Rim Smuggler with PS3 and and an EPT would have seen a lot more play than this hunk of junk. Sure it gets a 2 point point discount over an equivalent Decimator, but I still think you would almost always pay 4 more points for either version of Chewy.

Compare this with what you can do with a Lothal Rebel and it pales in comparison.

This card fills a niche that didn't need filling.

Just for kicks, now, one can make a 4-ship Rebel list with 2 pancakes. 2 Resistance Sympathizers and 2 Bandit Squadron Pilots. It's not even the worst squad ever because you've got a ton of beef and you've got great blockers.

Resistance Convoy anyone?

That's sexy as heck. 2 of these plus 2 z-95s could be wild

They REALLY want people to buy 2 HOTR packs.

Well I think the round dish is standard. The only YT-1400 with the rectangle dish is the Falcon, since it lost the round one on the Death Star. Makes sense that the unnamed pilot uses an unknown YT-1300, just like Bounty Hunter doesn't fly the Slave One in card art.

Boba Fet in Slave 1 card art.

Argument invalid? :P

But back to the Resistance Sympathizer and two YT-1300. IF I were going to use two YT-1300 I would just use the old one and the HotR one. The only thing it is preventing me from doing is using the flip side of the tokens so really Rey/Sympathiser and Lando/ORS is the only one stopping me. I could use both pilot cards and the base tiles will still be the same for both Chewie Resistance and Chewie Alliance. I can easy do Han Lando. I just don;t have the cards for 2 ORS, or 2 Sympathizers, and the tiles for Rey & Sypmathiser or Lando & ORS.

I'm a little bummed that the new hotness didn't have an EPT like the Scout, but the possibilities for dual YT shenanigans makes me all warm and fuzzy.

Add in the Smuggling compartments and let the good times roll!

I'd still like a simple, legal 2-crew-slot card for a -2pts [or more] discount, so that you could field four ORS!  ;)

No EPT means it's get about zero play, like a Wild Space Fringer or Patrol Leader. Yay!

2 Resistance Sympathisers with gunner

Talla squadro with thread tracers and guidance chips

They're like TLTs, but beefier and hurt more.

Well no

People REALLY overvalue the ept and undervalue the COMBO of deadeye + salvaged

Also undervalue how the scout's cost isnt ****** while the other noncaster pancakes are (deci is a crepe)

This is close to what I would say.

I think they've learned that giving the CS a EPT was a mistake and they are trying to avoid it again. And deadeye with other card combos was particularly dodgy.

The stockmodel usaually has no additional sensor dish.

Never flew an ORS, why start now?

This may still be overpriced.

OTOH, compared to a 35 point Lothal Rebel, you get a full attack 3 range 3 turret, a better dial, and an evade die at the cost of the system slot, 1 frontal attack die, 3 health, and 3 points. Still have the two crew slots for shenanigans plus you can take smuggling compartment. So ... maybe.

Ya...I understand it's kinda weird but not all YT 1300's are the Millennium Falcon, generic pilots in X-Wing most often are pilots who fly "generic" ships as well. Another reason generics often don't have the title upgrade option.

However,if nobody fields this or the generic Lancer competitively they will likely go back on that realisation.

Not necessarily, so long as the named pilots get play

I think the same can be said for most generics though. You don't see too many being flown at all really. Z's, Ties (but only in a swarm), occasional A's and Defender's. Probably one or two others, but not many at all.

The problem with the big ships is that with all the toughness (and damage potential on some) that they have, it's hard to then justify low points costs and EPTs.

The saddest part about all this is all FFG had to do to make the ORS and WSF usable was add this text on to Smuggling Compartment- "If your pilot skill value is 2 or lower, this upgrade costs -4 points."

But it wasn't meant to be apparently... Sigh...

Not necessarily, so long as the named pilots get play

I like to assume FFG doesn't purposely design ships so that nobody uses them. Therefore, a pilot that nobody uses is a design mistake and I like to think it's something they try to make less of.

IMO the Contracted Scout is proof that FFG looked at the WSF and ORS and said 'hey, nobody is using these guys, let's make a large ship generic worth using'

Ultimately, given the announcement for HotR, it's likely the design for the yt-1300 generic was completed way before FFG had a chance to look at any significant amout of post-wave 8 data.
