Space Stations

By Mikael Hasselstein, in Star Wars: Armada

In Corellian Conflict, we're getting more interesting space stations. They'll actually have cards, and the Armed Station will even be able to fire back.

There've been some efforts to make more of stations. Mel, of course has the following:

DiabloAzul also has rules to go with the XQ ( here and here ).

Kuat Drive Yards also has:

Perhaps there are some others that I'm not aware of, because my search-fu failed me.

Okay, so my purpose for posting this: How much have you all played with more than the standard stations, and how much interest is there in more than what's currently (or soon to be) on offer?

What sort of other stations might there be, which would be interesting to flesh out?

There's going to need to be a 3D printed version of the station we saw in the Rogue One trailer (if it is a station...)

While I completely agree with the premise that stations should play a more diverse role in the game.

Ootini Station is a ship. I am converting. Ships and squadrons from my Star Wars D6 RPG.

Ootini Station was found as a derelict with a PC Jawa aboard, using it as a mini space station. Making the Mobquet functional again became a massive resource sink for the party. They still have it and have incorporated it into their resistance fleet.

So stations have a hull value but act more like squadron hull points. So do critical hits have an effect on it?

No Clue

And do we know what the values of the stations are yet?

No Clue.

Apparently, they had like, 13 hull, based on one squinty-eyed reading previously, but no confirmation of that.

I love it! That's awesome.

Without a new damage deck, or reinterpretation of the current damage deck to factor out effects that pertain only to ships, I would imagine so.

Likewise, if a station can't move, it wouldn't have defense tokens, unless it has some exception to the no-defense-at-speed-zero rule.

But once again, squadrons don't have that rule.

Anyone know if the dropfleet commander modular stations kit is the right scale for Armada? Not that scale really matters so much in Armada as in other space games.

I was waiting for this kit to release, I think it would be perfect.

I'm doing a conversion using the Spacedock model that Micro Machines made for a Star Trek series back in the 90s. I had one lying around, it looked a lot like the station piece, so I'll pick up a second off eBay to have two for the Corellian Conflict.

Why would anyone make Sentinal Stations so **** strong?? 9 AA dice?? 12 dice out of each side?? 25 hull???? Defense tokens too! And it costs 0 points. That's stronger than some of the Armada scale SSDs out there. Is there some special rules I am missing for Sentinal Station?

Armed stations are cool and all, but I hope that is an unsupported station fighting against a huge fleet.

I assume it's based on Deep Space 9 where the station managed to repel the attack of a smaller task force of capital ships on more than one occasion. I think that station is more for crossover games than for actual Armada.

I've been wondering about finding LOS for the station. Or maybe it only measures range and can't be obstructed, given that it's a station

Some people just love Star Trek so much that they need for it to defeat Star Wars on Star Wars' turf.

However, even than it makes no sense, because the repelled fleet weren ISDs, but B`Rel, K`Vorts and a single Negh`Var. So comparable to a fleet of Raiders and Gladiators.

Oh it's from Star Trek...

I know there was one Rebel station that was "armed" with like 300 proton torpedo launchers that was enough to scare an SSD into submission. But the stats on something like that would also be insane.

But IMHO I always think Armada is a better Star Trek game than a Star Wars game. I hope Wizkids would make an Attack Wing 2 using Armada movement and shields.

I was thinking about this and I wouldn't mind an upgrade card (or admiral) that allows you to change the basic station to a different one, such as the campaign ones. Of course, you'd have to add the fact that you get to place the station (or maybe just move it a small amount of space? or whatever is needed to balance it out).

I never played the Star Trek game so I don't know the mechanics. I also have no desire to play Star Trek because I really really dislike it. I grew up in the Clone Wars and fell in love with it. Then I met Star Trek and thought "Wtf is this Star Wars rip off?" Little did I know they were both original ideas...

Star Wars for life.

Oh, like that new guy - Director Orson Krennic, who we'll be seeing in Rogue One. He seems to be involved with the Death Star project, which is all about building an 'operational battlestation'. I think he'd be a great commander to do what you suggest.

Though, I don't think they'll do it.

:(

Boo.

Well, Star Trek predates Star Wars by about 10 years.

I'm also much more of a Star Wars fan, but I don't feel the need to have a tribal identity associated with it, which will force me to dislike Star Trek. Star Trek (TOS) is something that I also grew up on. (If you grew up on The Clone Wars, then we must be many years apart.)

Sure they will! His ability will allow you to destroy a ship instantly (Death Star!) And you lose if Luke makes a crit on the station.

Not quite. It was a bluff. The station had standard armaments, but also hab a cargo of missile guidance systems. On board. So they armed like 300, and locked onto the SSD. The SSD fell for the ploy.

Oh I know, hence the quotes. But the real proton torpedoes were on the civilian ships in the sector, with the guidance system in the station, just incase the SSD didn't surrender.
