Single Day X-Wing Regionals Request

By Danath "ATLAS", in X-Wing

Little help. Most of the Regionals around Utah are two day events Sat/Sun which I can't make work. If you know of a single day event let me know as I'm interested in traveling to attend or if there is a Fri/Sat event. Please post them here so I and others that might share my schedule can benefit.

Thanks much!

J

The list so far

Georgia

Missouri

Montana (most likely, if they go over 60, top 8 will be majoirty rules)

Tennessee

West Virginia

I know that the Search function leaves much to be desired, but a simple search of "Regional" turns up some good info.

Anyway, I found this. Hope it helps ===> https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/op/events/2016-regional-championships-may-track/x-wing/

Guess I could send a mass email to all the stores asking. The link itself doesn't tell if the event is 1 or 2 days.

Are you serious? The Utah one is Sat/Sun??? Is there any way we can petition that?

I feel like nobody remembers all the requests for 2-day events... the advanced structure for 100 people (which utah is listed at) is 6 rounds followed by a top 16 (4 more rounds). 75 minute rounds with a 2 hour final is a LONG day!

I'm actually more tempted to make this event knowing if I make top 16 that I'll be a better player the next day and it won't be a fatigue battle game.

The only request I would have for TO's that do 2 day events is can there be a hangar bay or something the next day for people that don't make the top 16?

Utah is actually capping it at 64 so top 8 on Sunday. They weren't able to secure a location for a reasonable price.

KDubb they aren't changing it. We already have 3 people who have said they can't play Sunday. Also Idaho, Colorado and Nevada are also supposedly Sat/Sun events.

I asked about if I decided to play on Saturday so I can have the high tier experience/practice and drop on Sunday if I make the cut if I still get the prize support and I got chewed out by a bunch of people about how it's unsportmanship to take a spot away from someone who could play both days and how it's unfair to take prizes away from those that could play both days. No word from Demo on it but Org Play said it's up to the location how to handle it.

So far Missouri and West Virginia are single day events.

While I sympathize with those who have commitments on Sundays and are unable to attend a two day tournament, running a 9 round event in a single day isn't feasible.

On the other hand, people being dismissive because you want to attend only one day are being jerk, and should be ignored.

Ya I guess as the game grows it's inevitable. Think I might just go and make the tough decision if I make the cut lol.

Forget that dude, if they don't want you taking their prize support, they can out fly you fair and square. If you pay your entry fee, its all fair game.

I can't say as I know of any one-day Regionals at this point. To be honest, I'm kind of okay with it, even though I'm actually going to be traveling out of state for at least one Regional this year. Like last year, I traveled to Utah Regionals, and ended up wishing it had been a two day event -- and I didn't even make the cut. But I stayed around to watch right up til the finals, and I have to say, there was a definite decrease in the quality of play up by that point. I'd rather those games had taken place the following day, with everyone well-rested; there would've been some much more exciting games. If there's any way to make two-day tournaments work for your schedule, I'd recommend doing it.

Personally I wish Regionals werent becoing 2 day events. For many of us who cant get to worlds or to nationals these are the highest level events we can attend and making them 2 day events makes that prohibitive for a lot of people who do enjoy the game and who enjoy competitive play but cant make ti to larger events.

I'm really hoping World's in 2017 is a Friday/Saturday event allowing Sunday for travel. If they keep the trend of Sat/Sun and Regionals and maybe even Store Champs go that way... man that would be just terrible. I've already decided I won't be buying any new ships until we see what happens with this next World's schedule.

Well I may get a shadow caster because it looks pretty cool and has some pilots/cards I like.

They need to be run well , that's the issue.

The Selden Long Island Regional was only one day, but they had severe issues getting the initial pairings set up and the actual play ended up starting two hours late and going past midnight. Then, like magic, it disappeared in this Regionals cycle.

I have experience running events and can say it can get quite chaotic at larger numbers. It almost feels like you need a larger number of smaller regionals as opposed to a smaller number of larger regionals, possibly even smaller "regions" with 2 regionals per region.

I hope Rekkon doesn't mind me spoiling his little secret but, Thunder Bay Ontario, January 28. 32 players Max, you don't even need to preregister just show up. Last year they had 19. 1 day event guaranteed.

I think it is among the smallest in North America.

Pretty sure Saskatoon Saskatchewan also capped at 32 will be a single day event, February 11

We did it in Atlanta just fine. Good day.

The Georgia regional and the Tennessee regional are single day events.

Bozeman, MT is one day.

You know what would be awesome? If all regionals were held on the same day.

That's right, that's what I said. All regional events, held in their various locations, on the same day. Just go to the one closest to you, don't have to worry about traveling to multiple different events, which would also help keep events to a more manageable size.

That's what I would prefer.
