Imagine a CR 90 vs a Raider. Full load of Turbolasers and Heavy Ions. They maneuver to the point that they are side to side, same bearing, one inch away.

So shooting forbidden. Range too close.

I'd say that's why you don't take only turbolasers and heavy ions...

But if two ships are closer than the min range on all weapons, they can't shoot at each other until they separate.

One of them goes speed 1 until the other drifts far enough ahead to be shot at.

In what respect is this a rules question?

they should run a fighter escort.

but the rules do not require them to do so.
