Final Rogue One Trailer

By DailyRich, in X-Wing

Beautiful... but the scenery shifts so much it's a jarring cut. There are towers there the X-Wings are flying by, the guy screams, then they fly through structure (one crashes) but there are no turbolaser towers to be scene... uhg!

Ooh, found them. Towers are on the outer ring... still a jarring cut.

I'm still quite fearful of that:

<<
We put the film again in postproduction and assembling, because the directors version seems to be too dark, violent and not enought "familiar" for the the producers.
>>

That has me worried. The movie was probably awesome...now toned down. I have my hope we finally get a good Star Wars movie like Empire Strikes Back. The trailer looks awesome and makes me wish is was December already.

Thing is, the tone in all the trailers has been pretty consistent. If they were worried about it being too dark, you'd think we'd have seen a noticeable difference in how the trailers presented the film.

Really, just watch one and other at the time.
vs
The previous trailer hasn't the "we have hope, and rebelions are build on hope and smiles", instead it have "reckless, agressive and undisciplined... This is a rebelion, isn't it? I rebel".
Some could say that a "reckless, agressive and undisciplined" rebelion is a little more darker than a "hope based rebelion".
Or take Saw Guerrera "What will you do when they catch you? What will you do if they break you? If you continue to fight, what will you become?".
An ominous prediction, of dire times, of torture, even maybe a warning against the danger of becoming something as cruel as the Empire.
Certainly, a little more grim than the new cry "save the rebelion, save the dream!"
Even the music is far more ominous in the first trailer. Hard bass, alarm sirens...
Actually, the reception of the first trailler as too dark and grim for a juvenile audience is the main reason to the "retune" of the film.
Disney needs a film that a nostalgic of the old films want to see, but, if it's possible one that this nostalgic could bring his son or even grandson, with him.

I believe that was debunked a while back. The reshoots were scheduled before they even started shooting and it's routine stuff most films do.

The cringy Disney Channel commedy-style "I rebel" line used as an example of the darker tone :D

If this had been what was released in 1999, we could have saved almost two decades of heartbreak and disappointment.

Well I remain the forum advocate for Saw's Partisans being a distinct (Scum) faction from the rest of the Rebellion at the start of the movie, our heroes get them to join up, and by their actions/sacrifice get the Partisans to abandon their Scummy ways and fully join the Rebellion by some critical plot point/and/or/the end of the movie.

I am not seeing anything in this trailer that would invalidate that possibility , so....so far, so good! Now to just count down the days until the movie is out...

X-WING FIX

Clearly he was referring to the X-wing fix. Right? Right?

What a great great trailer.

Anyway, the trailer just give me an *****ion. It's realy impresive.
But... it is important for me that Jan Ors / Jyn Erso will not be a singer popular in the whole galaxy, imprisoned by annoyng a imperial officier. This would put the script too close to Top Secret.

Does this forum censor "erection"?

But... How are we supposed to talk about the Eifel Tower (a mighty erection indeed).

edit -

Oh... it doesn't.

What the hell word were you saying?

Like, you knew this was going to be bad.

We were all just blind! Couldn't believe a Star Wars movie could be awful. Refused to believe.

Yoda even says it. The movie was going to make you angry, and you would hate it, and there would be suffering.

The clues were all there. There's Jar Jar getting tongue-zapped. And a little kid piloting a space ship. We got distracted by Liam Neeson and a dude with a double-ended lightsaber.

I know, right? That stride definitely said "the person at the end of this walk is NOT going to enjoy this"

Which is also true when Darth, any Darth, walks up to the counter to order coffee.

All indications are the space battle in the trailer is the "first victory against the evil Galactic Empire" mentioned in the Star Wars opening crawl.

I'm very much hoping that the Nebulon B that we see is Imperial, and gets stolen by the Rebellion during this fight.

However, a rebellion against such a huge empire, needs inexorably from a high popular support to have minimal chance of success. And to do it is not enough a cruel and mean Empire, the people must be able to see the rebellion with at least any chance of victory.

That, or the Empire needs to be so awful and cruel that people fear death even if they don't Rebel.

I don't think the new canon has Nebulon B as Imperial craft, and I'm okay with that, the design screams "Rebel". As for this particluar Nebulon... which one, there are at least two in the fleet scene.

Agreed. Perhaps the Nebulon B's are outfitted to civilian roles, such as medical frigates, cargo transports - which is feasible with the ling boom, that cargo modules attach to this area.

[insert what everyone else said here!]

Didn't the Tarkin book have Nebulon Bs as Imperial craft?

So, I guess I am the only one who looks forward to really bad acting based on that trailer?

Guess there is hope for that movie if it is just me. ^-^

That might not be the sequence of cuts in the final film; in fact I'd bet it's not. Trailers usually splice together different elements into what appears as a single sequence but when the film comes out, isn't. I would wager you'll find it's different in the actual film.

Just wanted to make sure we put these posts side-by-side for reference, 'cause that TPM trailer sure makes a lot of cuts that we now know are not the same order...

My parents are cleaning out their house after remodeling, and found my Naboo N-1 starfighter and Qui-Gon Jinn Christmas tree Hallmark ornaments and returned them to me. I showed them to my wife (who has not been subjected to the prequels, nor will I allow it), and explained, "These are the only good things to come from The Phantom Menace ."

Wait, are y'all trying to apply political science to Star Wars ?

Wait, are y'all trying to apply rational thought to George Lucas?

So, I guess I am the only one who looks forward to really bad acting based on that trailer?

I expect bad acting and bad lines. It's normal in a Star Wars film. The level of bad though is hopefully acceptable.

I won't take that bet. It can go either way with trailers. Still seems jarring on its own which makes it an interesting choice. Not wrong or right. Ex-editing experience in me making observations with my limited experience in Post.
