Its in the middle of Summer... So Christmas is Barbeques, Pool Parties, and all sorts of Fun...
Plus, for kids, and it being Summer, and the fact Australia Runs on a Feb->November School Cycle, means that Christmas is in the middle of the 8 WEEK BREAK, when they're HAVING FUN, not trying to cram Christmas into the middle of a School term or anything...

Its Cold, its Wet, its lonely, and to go anywhere or do anything, you've got to prepare to rug up in six hundred layers that just have to be taken off... Not to mention the mortality rates on people who actually TRY to drive anywhere in the forsaken North during Late December, and all the people I want to be with are back in Australia anyway.

On topic, I'm surprised that Rogue One had any semblance of a fleet at all. It's a good surprise though, but I guess I laboured under the assumption that most of the Rebel fleet was anemically frail at the time of Yavin. It's nice to see that this lines up with Rebels, as I happen to love that show so the inclusion of elements of their 'scale' is pleasing. But I guess I still sort of assumed Solo was their choice because the Rebels couldn't even muster up enough support to call in allied ships to pick up Kenobi in the first place. So they contracted it out and, well, it ended up pretty good (minus the whole dead guy downer and bringing the wrath of the Empire on their heads). It sort of reaffirms the new scale of the Yavin era Alliance capabilities and makes it feel cross-media supported with the Rebels show, which is good mutual support for both stories. Yay for a degree of apparent continuity! I look forward to seeing what else crops up.

Christmas only happens is freezing temperatures with lots of snow. You shall never convince me otherwise (and I've dealt with this mythic 'hot Christmas' in sandy realms best not spoken of, I shan't ever do it again if I have my druthers). Eggnog, bleck, 'tis enough to make me physically ill. Not actually an exaggeration, raw egg makes me quite sick

No, they continued with the story after telling people straight up (after the NDAs ended) that they needed the first movie to connect to the original trilogy.
The next movies will barely be connected to the original trilogy in terms of theme and plot. The ending of TFA is the dark mirror image of the end of Return of the Jedi. From here on out, it's at worst no more connected than a new Heroes Journey variation.

I like the Ewoks.
This is unpopular because so many people hate the prequels, but in many ways Revenge of the Sith is a much better movie than Return of the Jedi.
I'm 36 years old. I grew up with 4-5-6. My prefered one was The Return of the Jedi because we ad all those space combat scene!
When they decide to throw 1-2-3, I was so excited! Unfortunately, I was so disapointed. The Revenge of the Sith was the best of those three but not what I was expecting.
The Force Awakens was supposed to be the come back for the franchise. Ok, maybe not the trilogy of T. Zahn (I don't know why) but at least something new. Once again... they did something worse than 1-2-3, they brung back the story line of A New Hope (Why?... what the Hell?).
Rogue One seems to be the real big deal, what every one are waiting for. Each time that I look the preview I got goose bump 
Time to december to show of!!! Rogue One, Corellian Conflict and Wave 5.

This is close to where my list would be, with Jedi over awakens.
I enjoyed Awakens, but not over any of the OT. It was a good proof of concept that great Star Wars movies can still be made, but still had a lot of recycled material and J.J. Wonkery. I believe it's sequels will either Redeem it to a hire rating, or condemn it to a lower one.

Im not going to state my case for why Revenge of the Sith is a far better movie then Return of the Jedi. I will say Return of the Jedi has some of the best moments in the franchise and among the worst. To me thats why I dislike it because the film shouldve been the best star wars movie ever made and when I watch it that thought makes it almost painful to watch. The story is far too disjointed such as Jabba's Palace while great, cleans up the loose ends of the previous movie rather then contribute that much to the movie its in.
If you can excuse ewoks defeating the elite of the Empire's elite with rocks and arrows in one of the worst planned out battles in cinematic history. If you can excuse a single A Wing taking down a star destroyer the size of the island of Manhattan down but not some of the bits in the prequels then thats a problem.
To get back at Rogue One I think the Rebels always had a hodge podge fleet but scattered amongst the various cells. If this movie does it so this should be the moments the rebels become a legitimite organization.

I humbly disagree. Because I can - and these are all opinions of course.
If you look for "realism" in Star Wars" then the Emporer has already won. Every movie has it's things that - if you think about them too much - you suspend disbelief really hard. (Really? Three TIEs including Darth Vader can't bring a new X-wing pilot down from behind in a contained area? Really? A muppet is the most powerful Jedi in history? Really? etc. etc.)
Probably the only thing that we as a group can agree upon is the superiority of Empire Strikes Back...but sure enough someone will post "Why Empire Strikes Back is not the best Star Wars movie of all time" right after.

For as much as I am dissatisfied and dislike much of Return of the Jedi I will never begrudge anyone else's enjoyment of it. Im glad you do like it, I wish I could as some of my favorite aspects of Star Wars are in it. Ackbar, the huge space battle, all of the Luke story with the force, more Lando! These movies are about entertainment so if it makes someone happy believe me I am far more satisfied with seeing fellow star wars fans enjoying the franchise we all love.
I will only slightly counter that its not the ewoks victory that vexes me its how lopsided in their favor it was portrayed that does. They only show maybe two ewoks max getting killed, parctically no rebel casaulties, and an entire elite Imperial legion devastated. Not compelling in any sense. The space battle is however the complete opposite. Again the movie excels in areas but is equally as bad in others.
