Rogue One Trailer

By melminiatures, in Star Wars: Armada

uugh Rogue One looks worse and worse the more I see it.

It's gone from it's original description "band of brothers in space" and " a Star Wars war film" to something that's had numerous re-writes and re-filming to appease the mouse and it's insatiable appetite for childrens murchandise.

Is it too much to ask for a Star Wars film marketed to adults? Ofcourse it is, because backpacks and lunchboxes make more money than ticket sales and blu-rays.

For the umpteenth time the reshoots did not change the tone of the film according to almost the entire cast, the director, and many other sources. Reshoots happen on EVERY movie ever that's just apart of the film making industry.

Of course it's never going to be as gritty as Band of Brothers and rightly so. I would love a movie like that but there's some fairly disturbing stuff in that series because of how truly messed up war is. This still has to be a somewhat PG movie considering the name. That doesn't mean its not oriented at adults, but you have to keep in mind kids will be seeing this as well. No exploding heads or shrapnel tearing through a platoon.

I had a Star Wars lunchbox back in '78.

Star Wars has always been for kids.

You want a "grown-up" movie go watch Remains of the Day, Thin Red Line, or Primer.

I do kinda disagree there though. Star Wars has always been family friendly much in the vain a lot of movies used to be especially in the fifties and forties but its not for kids, although the marketing certainly is. Return of the Jedi arguably is because of the ewoks.

Edited by Forresto

Ewoks are the worst thing to happen to Star Wars, right behind Gungans.

I love that they are bringing in ships from rebels, or rebels pre-emptivly brought in ships from Rogue One.

Also we know this battle will be the "first major victory" of the rebel alliance so I would be surprised if the rebellion didn't bring everything it's got including Phoenix fleet.

And finally whats up with all the TFA hate? It was a fine movie and exactly what it needed to be. Of course there were some plotholes but can you Identify a Star Wars movie without major plot holes?

I liked TFA, for the exact same reasons I like A New Hope.

Exactly. The. Same. (Ones)

Well said.

I enjoyed the remake, but I am **** sure ready for an original story!

Lord, Star Wars fanboys are so whiney. If you seriously think the TFA was bad, why the hell are you still here? Now quiet down while the rest of us drool over this trailer.

/drool

Am I the only who sees the irony in this?

My take on TFA: It wasn't bad at all. But it definitely (for me) wasn't as good as some of the other 6 Star Wars movies. I even liked Sith more than I liked TFA. Don't worry, I'm prepared to take a bunch of grief over that statement.

The trailers for Rogue One have by FAR got me more excited than TFA did. TFA was straight excitement because we were going back to the original trilogy. This looks more like a throwback to the vibe of the original movies (ESB level of violence/grit posibly).

Yeah, TFA definitely had serious story issues, but at least FELT like Star Wars and had awesome characters, which was something the prequels lacked. I'm pumped for this because it looks like it has all the stuff TFA got right with what looks like a new story that gets away from the classic quest archetype, and I am super excited for a Star Wars movie with no (or little, I suppose) jedi presence.

Lets see, I don't understand the revisionist history both Lucas and some fanbois have around the OT.

In the OT you have:

- Lots of people dying both explicitly and implied

- Limbs getting chopped off

- The freshly charred skeletons of someones caregivers

- An old dude getting chucked into his certain death

- Corpse burning

- Incest

- an animal ridden to death and then eviscerated

- Torture

- Slavery

- The destruction of an entire planet

- Physical assault

- More torture

- Gratuitous death of indigenous teddy bears

- People nearly getting cooked alive

- Living creature graphically choked to death

These are just a few of the things off the top of my head. Star Wars might have been "for kids" but maybe kids are sheltered wusses these days. Star Wars was never made for kids it was made for adults and it so happened that it captured the imagination of younger viewers.

Hastatior thank you! I think the problem is people assume adults and kids somehow cant enjoy and be mystified by the same piece of art. Often the best movies can appeal to both without really trying to appeal to both. Indiana Jones is a great example of this.

On a side note that's maybe my problem with the first two seasons of SW Rebels and much of the early Clone Wars, which took the Disney route of oversimplifying things for younger audiences. TFA did a good job of keeping that balance. I was a huge, huge fan of Star Trek (still am, yes I am a huge Star Wars nerd and trekkie) when I was a kid and those series have some really deep philosophical themes a kid cant necessarily grasp until they're older. But I still loved them and now that i'm older I can watch them and experience it very differently then I did before.

....And here I thought I couldn't get any more excited than I already was. Thanks for putting it up, Mel!

As for the TFA detractors, I dinnae care. All your grievances haven't done anything to me other than add another post I skim and routinely discard. No one's hurt or suddenly convinced 'cause it was't your favourite. For me, TFA fluctuates between being my favorite and second favourite Star Wars film. It's been almost a year since we saw it, the sheen isn't off it yet in my mind. I'll admit I was happy to get Episode I in theaters and I watched it the day after it came out, but there was that sort of 'flat' feeling for me. I recognize that now as disappointment and mild confusion from the tone dissonance, but at the time it was a new Star Wars. That was awesome, given that I wasn't alive to see Jedi in theaters, so the whole thing was experiential. But within 3-6 months, the only thing I liked was the Destroyer Droids for its creativity. TFA, different story.

I don't care, you don't care, we're having a big ol' apathy party and everyone's invited! Show up if you want, I guess.

TFA was a great star wars movie. Original enough, and managed to bring a new generation of heroes into existence.

It still looks nice and gritty. Asking it to be "Band of Brothers in Space" is way too high of a standard. That series stands utterly alone in my book. It is the gold standard of film/television that many have tried to emulate and fallen short. If this movie reaches that level, awesome, but let's be a little more real. I'm just hoping for an awesome, action packed war movie.

There's little doubt that the plot borrowed heavily from the original trilogy. You can listen to the interviews with Abrams and he admits it was done intentionally. The reason I enjoyed it so much was 1) lots of Harrison Ford being awesome and 2) great new characters. I put TFA above RotJ and below New Hope and Empire. The potential forthe story moving forward, however, is where I'm really excited.

Also, one little detail that concerns Armada....

Star Wars Rebel's Hammerhead corvettes spotted in the background: pic3213070.jpg

Ok enough talk about TFA. I loved it but who cares. This is about the Rogue One trailer! We are missing the awesomeness of the above shot showing an actual Rebel fleet of more than just X-Wings(my one major disappointment in TFA). As Mel pointed out you can see TR 90's, Rebel transports, 2 Neb-B's, 2 hammer heads! Ohh ohh ohh and...

What is the pod looking thing to the right of the top right X-wing!!! It looks like it is a pod with something attached going above it. Let the speculation begin!! My guess is it's a Rebel AFMK2. It looks like it could be the bottom of it. While I think it is an ugly design it would be cool to see it in an actual movie. My guess is it's the flagship of the new Rebel Mon Calamarie Admiral that was recently revealed. Since we never see the ship or him again in the movies my guess is it doesn't make it out of this attack alive. My hopes are the Rebel fleet we see in the picture engages the Imperial ISD1's that are protecting the unfinished Death Star and we have an actual capital ship fight. Pure speculation but maybe the AFMK2 goes down and in it's dying act rams and ISD1 taking it out giving enough space for the rebels to get the Death Star plans out of the system.

I loved this trailer and I'm real king looking forward to seeing the movie.

I liked TFA, but it's funny seeing people who are so adamant that they don't care about "TFA detractors", yet can't help but constantly post about them. I guess the force works in mysterious ways. :^)

On a more serious note, if the scoring in the R1 trailer is any indicator of its quality in the movie I think we're in a for a real treat. I got chills when Krennic said "The power we are dealing with here is immeasurable."

I got 8 likes on my pertinent Meme posting earlier. That's a good day. :D

People should respect each others opinions, as we are all here for the same reason... We all love Star Wars. We shouldn't have to love everything about Star wars to be accepted. I am sure Star wars toilet paper exists somewhere on the planet, but I don't insist on wiping my ass with it and nothing else.

That's it mister, you're on the list , along with the person that made eggnog, ewoks, subprime mortgages, and photo radar! I also said TSA detractors but no one called me out on it :P

Actually you mentioned one big thing about Rogue One for me: the trailer's sound bites are pretty good. Krennic's line along Gerrera's "Save the Rebellion! Save the dream." stand out for me. I think one thing that caught me is that I don't recognize the background music in the trailer: it's almost always Two Steps From Hell. Either way, the audio cues and actual cuts are really well done.

... Man, Eggnog is the only redeeming factor about Christmas in this God-Forsaken Hemisphere...

Besides, if you want "Band of Brothers in Space" there's always the excellent Battlefront novel.

I think this movie has potential to be its own thing, closer to Dirty Dozen than anything, but why does it need to be derivative of something else?
