Is Red Ace as Man or Women?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

The art is drawn in such a way that it can easily be a man or woman. Which is nice, as it's not a named character so people can assume whatever.

Thing is, though - if Red Ace is a man...that's a HELL a mullet being sported, there.

Jawlines pretty much always look guy-like from low angles like that.

Narrow wrists suggest female to me, but YMMV.

Anyway, she looks like she's about to get hit by a pair of concussion missiles, so her comms relay must be out.

Looking at the card, apparently Red Ace is 80's Kurt Russell.

I used to have long blonde hair like that 20 years ago. It's not that I gave up on hair, it's more like hair gave up on me.

I just think it is poor art work from a company that generally has great art work. Can't have good without bad. Despite having that very hair cut at one point in my life my guess is she.

Red = Mars, Mars = Man.

Now I need to paint 'Porkchop Express' on one of my T70s.

I prefer to think of it as Snake Plisskin in "Escape from the Death Star."

neither

they are an ace

Red Ace is All.

Personally i have always referred to Red Ace as female... This was, though, because Jess Pava had the red helmet and Snap had the blue one.

Still gonna use female pronouns for Red Ace unless something official is announced.

I did the same thing, and thought it was Jess Pava for the exact same reason!

Forget about gender, what I want to know is: Is it the Ace of Diamonds or Hearts?

j/k. :D

FFG definitely has their misses when it comes to the art department:

I made custom alt art cards for all of the T70 pilots using movie stills.

I ended up using Bastian for Red Ace, because we know he was in Red Squadron:

I used Niv Lek for Blue Ace, because we don't know to which squadron he belonged.

Similarly, there was Yolo Ziff who also has unknown squadron affiliation. Aside from that we only have "Furillo" and "R1" who are mentioned by name but not seen in the cockpit.

This artwork is clearly none of those three pilots, but I really wish they had commissioned art for Bastian to be Red Ace. In my opinion, this artwork is lackluster. Not because of the androgyny--that's totally fine and some individuals self-identify as non-binary--but because the art style feels sloppy and tacky with goofy proportions. Considering the common ways many of the recent X-Wing alt arts have been referred to by the community: "Derp" Rendar, "Pro-Wrestler" Boba, Super Generic Luke, "Potato-Face" Worlds Han....I don't understand how a company which has such exquisite artists in their arsenal and fairly immaculate art direction cannot seem to get a darn OP Prize Support Pilot card to not look goofy as hell lately. It's actually mind-boggling. Like, in the LCG (and Armada) there are fantastic images of Dash Rendar, yet for X-Wing OP we get the goofiest ass picture of Dash imaginable. I suspect FFG OP might have a different art director than the various game lines? Because I just have a hard time imagine this piece of art in their roleplaying books or LCG line.

Red Ace is Linda Hamilton.

And when there's two of them on the board, one of them is her identical twin sister, Leslie.

Looking at the card, apparently Red Ace is 80's Kurt Russell.

I have a bit of conspiracy theory, but I think that Red Ace is actually one of the Lone Gumen (Langly, X-Files):

Don't forget "Disco Vader."

She is having a rough day, clearly feels bad about just sacrifcing the astromech and going to be hit by torps anyways.... Kind a true to the game actually.

It's really not fair when you consider how breathtaking the alt art for Armada's regional kit is:

corellian_corvette_a_alt_art_web.jpg

This kinda reminds me of the cunfusion I caused at Tournament once, when I refered to some of my generic TIE pilots as "she" ... priceless moment of opponent confusion :D

(I am kinda equal-opportunity when it comes to the pronouns of my generic pilots; meaning at whim I decide at whim which half my generics get which of two genered pronouns - and sometimes if a percentage gets a non-gendered it)

As for card art, take it as is - and the english language makes it pretty easy, having no genered terms for professions. Whoever is featured on the card is "a pilot". If you want to avoid pronoun confusion at all cost remember you can always refer to ship instead, which is neutral and therefor get "it" as its pronoun: "This X-Wing with a Red Ace-pilot"

Who cares, this art is another blatant case of Human favouritismI Why yet another human alt art! Why not a Duros, a Togrutas or even a Nautolan?

:P

Red Ace identifies as an attack helicopter.

Now I want to run Red Ace, Luke, and PS 8 Poe: "Dead Man's Hand."

Derp!

Like I said, I don't care, but when building them list like all women or all men as well as referring to it correctly. I would like to know. but I guess they never said. Some how Whisper is a girl and thought everyone woudl have a say on Red Ace.

They were just making a reference to the greatest Star Wars game ever made, obviously.
