Im doing a small tournament soon and have been thinking of using this build... Any ideas on improving or am i doing a bad build?
Countess Ryad (36) - TIE Defender

Colonel Vessery (40) - TIE Defender
Ruthlessness (3), TIE/D (0), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1), Tractor Beam (1)

My wife had some luck with a double Defender list with the Inquisitor
Inquisitor - PTL, V1, Twin Ion Mk2 (30)
Countess Ryad - Juke, X7 (34)
Vessery - D, Tractor Beam, Adapt (36)
V1 on the Inquisitor means Vessery will more than often have a TL leaving his action free. Use the TL once to pull a ship into R1, and then use it again to lay the pain with a primary shot. 99% of the time, they will go after Vessery first, but that will still leave you with 2 very capable ships.

The list is not bad, but Colzet is a little weak.
I would suggest dropping him for a bomber, since in this sort of list, your opponent wants to kill Vessery first, and putting the bomber in makes for a difficult choice.
Scimitar w/ homing missiles, extra munitions + LRS = 23
Long-range scanners are excellent alongside Vessery, and this little guy will hit considerably harder than Colzet.
