Days Since We Last Had To Make Up Rules As We Went Along: 0

I don't think they're looking at big changes.

I'm expecting the delay to be because its one overworked guy giving his priority elsewhere.

ironically, I think people will still be disappointed if there are no big changes. All this time waiting for nothing to happen can be quite irritating for some. I'm still pondering if I want to include myself in that.

Oh, I know people will be disappointed if there's not major changes.

Its going to be hilarious to me.

And if there is major changes, its going to be hilarious to me.

Going forward and doing so much more TOing instead of playing, has really changed my perspective on these things a fair bit recently...

"Dum de dum, boy, you know what it's been a while since I looked at it? The Armada forums! I wonder how they're-

Oh. Oh. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh farts. I knew I forgot the FAQ on SOMETHING!"

Just from the trends over on the X-Wing I'm guessing a major change is possible, but they are waiting to see if the changes are necessary by what happens at Worlds or any big tournament (What happened to Uboats is a good example). Other than RLB, most wording and understandings are pretty good in Armada IMO so they probably don't feel the pressure to address the smaller things and it falls by the wayside in priorities.

In what ways have your perspectives changed?

I certainly hope the players at Worlds will either all bring the conflicting cards or not bring them at all just so someone realizes something's wrong with them.

And I certainly hope 3 flotillas 2 ships 134 squadron points will be the normal fleet :P

I hope it loses to a 2 activation fleet so I never need to hear any complaints about the subject again.

The question stopped being "What do I want to get out of this (playing Armada)?" and became "What does this group of individuals need to be able to play and enjoy?"

My own feelings were moot - which was good, because it was horridly biasing towards what I thought would be fun and enjoyable. When in effect, it may not have been.

And with the group - its not the "Meta". I stopped looking at online trends and major tournaments, and focused on what the group here in Hothgary will need to continue to play, excel and enjoy... I mean, Armada's not dead while they continue to show up to play. Armada's not dead while we continue to have fresh blood making their way in (1/4 of our last tournaments players were having their first tournament).

As for things like FAQs and such - well, they can be argued endlessly online. But as we've stated so many times in the Rules Sub Forums, the TO has the final say for the day... Now, I take that further to say that you should always respect your TO and their decisions - but that's another biasing claim since, y'know, I am the TO here... But in order to make that easier for everyone I do, I simply prepared what I figured everyone would need from an FAQ sheet and constantly update it... Hell, I also apparently (by accident or other poeple's design) maintain unofficial FAQs for major Vassal Tournaments, it seems :D

I guess my perspective changed because when it comes to Rules Debates and Rules Discussions - I'm mostly done with them... I will read the rules and check for precedents, and then I'll make my decision. I'll write it down, post it as a tentative, and if I get a good argument, I'll be persuaded to change it - but never on the Day. The days for arguments are in the weeks in the lead up. And that thought pattern extends online.... I do my best to post what I consider are the most rational and most rules-respecting arguments and discussions when they come up on the Rules Forum - and my problem was, y'know, expecting the kind in return from everyone. (Granted, a lot of people I do respect because they give back in kind - but they seem to be growing fewer and fewer as time goes on - and again, that is my purely personal opinion, and will lack specific names in either direction for that reason).

So yeah. I'm Statistically Abysmal. I can't win a game unless I'm doing something completely off the wall and jankey. I'm constantly laughed at for my inability to roll dice to save my life. Now it doesn't matter. Now my focus is on the enjoyment of the whole for people to come out and play - even if it means I don't play. (like last tourney - we had even numbers, so I sat out so no-one gets a Bye).

In the rules though, that's the only time I let myself be egotistical. The rest of the time, my thoughts, desires, and arguments are worth squat to the community at whole - The Hothgary, the Greater Alberta, North America, and FFG online all included. Squat. And thinking otherwise is just going to lead people to do and say the things they've done and said.

Of course, I won't stop 'em. And I doubt my argument will persuade them to think otherwise... But I'm sure the FAQ will be out when the FAQ is ready.

Wether that's tomorrow, a month from now, or whatever - it will be done, and it will be flawed, and it will be glorious, and the world will go on. Because my ability to effect any change on anything of it is limited - and even where it can be applied - I must be patently aware that it is exceeding arrogant to assume that I can.

story time: I was playing blockade run as 2nd player with a 4 activations fleet vs a 6 activations fleet (no squadrons). I lost a CR90 early to Demolisher and was 3 activations vs 6.

I still won because Mothma mc30s are just nasty and Gladiators really want to hug them... which is a bad idea.

So the moral of the story is.... activations don't matter so much if you have Mothma MC30s that just wreck faces?

Everyone at Worlds should just roll with this guy and 134 in squads:

Imperial II-class Star Destroyer - Grand Moff Tarkin - Admiral Chiraneau - Gunnery Team - Rapid Launch Bays - Redundant Shields - NK-7 Ion Cannons - Quad Turbolaser Cannons - Devastator (219)

I think that is the most expensive ship money can buy...

MC30c Scout Frigate - Admiral Ackbar - Adar Tallon - Gunnery Team - Redundant Shields - Assault Concussion Missiles - Quad Turbolaser Cannons - Foresight (157)

you have to admit: Last worlds final match was extremely boring to watch

I... Didn't think so at all, actually...

Proof of the opposite.

13:37 in the video.

JJ winning the tournament...and that's me there on the left...doing what I do best. Okay, maybe it was easy to watch because I was surrounded by dudes drinking beer, telling stories, and having a blast.

I guess it's all subjective then, because having the 2 fleets just bumping into each other and Y-Wings rerolling blacks was kind of boring to watch for me.

Some of the comments on the video seem to agree as well.

And when I say boring to watch... I really mean boring to WATCH. Playin a list like this is probably more fun than watching it. But, from a "show" standpoint, it's not the best I've seen.

All about Brik's thigh in the semi finals.....

Yeah it wouldn't have mattered if JJ and Brik had just thrown their models at each other. That crowd was going to have fun.

When I saw the tap at the mothership...omg

I was only a little upset that we couldn't play the first rounds there.

Hey by the way, when's the FAQ coming out?

I could see not enjoying watching that if you don't know the game. I mean, I feel like that could be said of watching other people play most games, though.

It's like that objective game (IS, iirc) they showed in the 2015 Worlds semifinals, where the corvette swarm just snatched points and disengaged with almost no shots fired the whole game. Fantastic flying and great high-level game play, but not the most engaging thing to watch if you're just walking by the table.
