"They're coming in too fast" TIE mod idea

BobaRick got me thinking....that famous quote by Luke in episode IV when he was at one of the turrets on the Falcon would be a cool card to add to a basic TIE. In order to be thematic, it would need to be a one-off as Luke was able to, after a few attacks, be able to hit it. You guys are smarter than me, but I'd love a TIE only mod that's cheap and fun for a moment.

Ideas?

That's pretty much what the TIE Defender's x7 title does.

You can tell that "They're coming in too fast" because they're a pain to land hits on.

Sounds like you're asking for the x7 ability on a 1pt EPT that gets discarded after use.

Or maybe a melding of x7 and stealth device in that it provides the evade token but is lost after the first hit.

I like this, but I would make it speed 2 or less. If you made it 3 or less, then you could only do a 4 or 5 and no turns. 2 or less allows you to do 3 turns and banks. Way better and possibly worth paying a point or two for. Other wise you are only using it for a turn or two and probably won't even be shot at turn one.

That would definitely have to be TIE Fighter only. Put that on defender and you are NEVER hitting him! Lol

I'd make the extra evade token a 'once per turn' thing.

What about a 1pt upgrade, that lets the ship cancel the first Direct Hit critical result and then the player must discard the "they are coming in too fast!" upgrade card ?

Ties take 1 turns and all 2 speed maneuvers every game, especially after the initial joust(if there is one)

From what I've heard, the TIE fighter is the best point value ship in the game, so much so that everything has to be judged by it. So, with that in mind, we DON'T want to make the TIE Fighter BETTER .

1) A single discard use like Crack Shot would be fine, I think.

2) Maybe drop one red die and add one green die as an ability? But that might be bad because it would be used when a TIE wasn't planning on attacking anyways. Maybe "Once per round, if you have an opponent's ship in your firing arc you may choose to roll one less red die when attacking and one additional green die when defending." I think that would be fine...

I'm liking this one OK, interesting concept. But BobaRick, although you're digging in the facts well, and know far more than I, I can't quite see the point in trading an attack for a defense for a glass-cannon like TIE, a two attack die ship would never take that the drop to just 1.....unless it was a safety valve 0 point card similar in mechanics to the intergrated astromech; but that doesn't seem to follow the quote at all, kinda misses the mark IMO.

And yes, it would need to be Imperial TIE only card restriction.

The idea I had was supposed to be for a quick and dangerous first exchange, eventually slowing down to actually dogfight. So it only lasting a few turns makes sense.

I had an idea for a formation title for them, 2pt does nothing on its own but if you attack a ship that was already attacked by one of your friendly ships with this title you added an attack die. Then i realized people would just dump Howlie in the usual crack swarm and give everyone that title and maybe upgrade an academy to another blackcrack lol

True that; I'd love for my friends to think my TIE swarm was mean, but I'm still trying to learn how to fly it well haha...it's mean to itself and asteroids.

I think in the Spirit of, "they're coming in too fast" it would make them harder to hit the first time. Like BlueMusketeer28 said, it has to be something that makes a furious first exchange but then slides back to a normal fight. I would think it's a one-off version of the X7 I guess; like a re-roll of evade dice blanks or something...like an inverted target lock for defense as a one use and "discard this card" kinda thing. The auto-include an evade might be too much, idk.

How about a one time card that would make the attacker reroll all of their dice? Make it 2-3 points and contingent on having made a move of 3 or better during the movement phase. That keeps it from being a killer tactic for a swarm, really adds up the points if used on a swarm, and for most craft will make them choose between being able to maneuver into position well and a one time anti-TL that might work out worse for them. Keep it for your low PS glass cannons for when your opponent rolls all crits.

Or maybe make it so that an attacking ship can't use Focus token while attacking you at the same speed?

A mod that gives the TIE/ln a free evade like the x7, but ONLY for a 5 straight. So trivial as to be 0 points, but great for the first joust.

I always find the '1' turn the TIE/ln's party piece, but fair enough.

A nice simple card would work well, but it would need to be - as noted - not complementary to the black squadron crack shot TIE swarm.

A nice option would be if it was a 1 point, Action-to-trigger, elite pilot talent. Because you could then field it instead of Rage on Youngster and have a squad with a massed defensive boost (at least for those ships moving fast enough to benefit) instead of an offensive one.
