how bad is it to add a flotilla just for activation

By SkyCake, in Star Wars: Armada

Might not even push squads, maybe just comm's net...

23 points for an empty activation feels wrong, seems like a decent way to compete with 5 activation lists...

Thoughts??

Make sure you're running with some squadrons to activate and it won't feel like wasted points.

Alternatively, you can always go with Slicer Tools (+either Suppressor or Quantum Storm, depending on faction) for the jerk flotilla.

Could be a a useful chess piece. I wouldn't rule it out, but make sure you have an idea what the plan for it is before you go into the game.

Run it for AA and to block enemy ship movement. Or use it to give cover to another ship.

Add slicer tools for pity sake

Take Comms Net, and its justifiable.

Even an 18 point GR-75 still can shoot down enemy squadrons. They aren't useless.

25 points for activation and Comm Net is a pretty good deal as long as there are heavy hitters that can benefit from that.

You can get a naked GR-75 flotilla for like 18 points that is pretty cheap for just an activation. (Of course the rebels don't need the activation help as much as rebels. And that's not bad but a Comm net is only 2 more points and that gives you a free token to one of you big ships every round.

The more I've used Comms Net flotillas the more I've loved them. Their flak ability is also no joke.

Bright Hope as dedicated AA is serious business in conjunction with a couple meaty squadrons to pin your quarry in place. The extra activation and deployment you get out of it is gravy.

Like PT said, though, you don't do it just to do it. You do it to enable heavy hitters. Defiance, MC30's, maybe Salvation or a Liberty.

You can also get really jiggy with the activations and go 4 MC30's and 4 GR-75's, and laugh in your opponent's face as you stall forever before annihilating his fleet. :)

So to sum up I think.....It shouldn't be just an empty activation haha. There's plenty you can do with it for very cheap. I also love them as squadron fighters, as others have said.

(Of course the rebels don't need the activation help as much as rebels.

Yeah, it's really the rebels who need them! ;)

But do they need them as much as the rebels? I'm not sure that rebels can leverage extra activations as strongly as rebels can, but that could just be rebel faction design as opposed to rebel faction design. I think we can all agree that regardless of whether you play rebels or rebels, flotillas are certainly worth considering.

You're joking, right?! From my experience, it's the Rebels who need them!

It's not my fault if you need to git gud. Your meta must be very uncompetitive. It's clear to basically everybody here but you that rebels are the ones who need them the most, not rebels. Recant your false opinion now or else it's guns at dawn!

Aaron Burr, ALSO a rebel!

... ;)

Admiral on the transport. Justified.

But Hamilton shot first (at the sky).

By historical accounts Burr took his time to properly aim.

use it as cover if nothing else. or blacking that demolisher short and stomping it to death

The more I'm playing the more I'm getting to rely on flottillas. Not too much though, I would unlikely bring more than two, but they are awful useful if you know how to use them.
