KOR: PnP feedback

By thesug1, in Star Wars: Destiny

We had some friends write up their feedback about Destiny while the printed out all the cards and labeled their dice to have some human play testing. Thanks to Jakub Siedlecki and his friends for this article.

" From the very start we were treating this game as a new competitive challange :)

We've build 4 decks to test as much currently spoiled cards as we can. A few thoughts about each deck below :)
1. 2 dice Qui-Gon + 2 dice Rey
+Imperial Armory
- Rey's Staff
- BB-8
- One with the force
- Heroism
- Luke's Lightsaber
- Mind Trick
- 2x Close Quarters Assault
- 2x Force Training
- 2x Awekening
- 2x Lightsaber
- 2x Dodge
- 2x Deflect
- 2x Use the Force
- 2x Comlink
- 2x Block
- 2x Take Cover
- 2x Holdout Blaster
- 2x Froce Throw
- 2x Jedin Robes
The key component of this deck are: Qui-Gon, Jedi Robes, Rey, Holdout Blaster and Awekening. Throuh the course of the evening it was the deck with best economy. Definitely its is more "control" than "aggro" deck, since both Qui-Gon and Rey don't have crazy burst damage. They have to build up a few upgrades and slowly snowball upon opponents head
2. 2 Dice Kylo + 2 Dice Jango Fett
+ Salvage Yard
- Lightsaber
- Comlink
- Kylo's Lightsaber
- Feel your anger
- 2x Deflect
- 2x Holdout Blaster
- 2x Mind Probe
- 2x Take Cover
- 2x Intimidate
- 2x Sith Holocron
- 2x Enrage
- 2x Jetpack
- 2x Block
- 2x Force Throw
- 2x Dodge
- 2x Immobilize
- 2x Unpredictable
Jango Fett. What a card this is... Everyone's going crazy about Sith Holocron, but honestly, I've found it less udeful than I thought it would be. Jango is absolutele bonkers. To paraphrase Robert From Team Covenant- it's banana's. His ability to do crazy burst damage before your opponent can do something about your dice is amazing. Currently this deck is 15/15 events/upgrades, but I've felt a little flooded with blue cards in some games. I think I might switch to 2 blue generics when they will be spoiled.
3. 1 dicce Dooku + 1 dice Phasma + 1 dice Stormtrooper
+ Salvge Yard
- Force Throw
- Force Training
- Endless Ranks
- Lightsaber
- Kylo's Lightsaber
- Force Choke
- 2x DH-17 Blaster Pilstol
- 2x First Order Tie
- 2x Mind Probe
- 2x Sith Holocron
- 2x Ude the force
- 2x Deflect
- 2x Dodge
- 2x Enrage
- 2x The best Defence
- 2x Take Cover
- 2x Block
- 2x Immobilize
This deck felt like the worst we came up with, but not necessarily bad. It's tricky to use Guardian ability and some events to protect Dooku, so blue cards won't go to waste. It is possible, that 2x Stormtrooper + 2 dice Dooku showed by Tiny Grimes on his recordings is much better version of this deck, but we'll continue testing :)
4. 2 Dice Rey (12)
2 Dice Han Solo (18)
Battleground: Frozen Wastes
Upgrades & Supports (14)
Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber
Lightsaber
2x Jetpack
Force Training
Force Throw
Commlink
2x Jedi Robes
One with the Force
BB-8
Millennium Falcon
2x Hold-out Blaster
Events (16)
2x Deflect
2x Unpredictable
Block
Take Cover
2x Smuggling
2x Use the Force
2x Dodge
2x Let the Wookie Win
2x Draw Attention
2D Rey and 2D Han is a well-rounded lategame deck that tries to pull ahead with its great resource economy and stay there by running lots of high value upgrades like the Falcon or One With the Force. Each of the characters can deal with most threats on their own and come back into the game even when behind. Having access to the most powerful force abilities and best utility yellow events allows this deck to stay on par with powerhouses like Jango+Blue. Top 5 MVP cards of this deck are: Draw Attention, Unpredictable, Jetpack, Jedi Robes and Hold-out Blaster. The problem is, that in case of rarity it's the most expensive deck so far, since you have to find 2 double Han in booster Packs :)
5. Overall thoughts
Let's face it- this game is awesome :P We are already crying for our wallets... On the more serious note- It is a really well designed game. The most important thing so far is, that even wit less than 50% cards spoiled, we menaged to buld 4 decks that have most cards incommon, but still play a little differently. This means, that there is a possibility for a few solid archetypes in just the first set! Important thing of course is CCG format. Honestly I think, that it will be ok. Since playset is reduced to 2 for a card, it is much easier to find complete set for your beloved card than in most CCG's. Of course this means, that people with more money can have a little easier time on tournaments (at least at the beginning) but it also means, that assuming more a less equal investment, more skilled player will be able to build better deck with limited options which is always good. Also since FFG promoted LCG format for last couple years, for many people CCG format can be... something new. If they did not play MTG or L5R last few years there were no really popular game in this field, so a well designed CCG feels refreshing. Long story short, we are hyped and will continue testing! :)"
