PSA: Buying Pre-release Singles

By ScottieATF, in Star Wars: Destiny

So for those that are unaware FFG is having a pre-release event prior to the general release of Destiny. This means for about 2 weeks there will be some Destiny product available to players but in very limited quantity. This means that there will likely be singles available for purchase prior to the general release.

The singles are likely going to be sold for artificially inflated values due to the limited nature of the pre-release. It is likely in your best interest to not purchase any singles between pre-release and release as prices are sure to drop once more boosters are available for purchase. There may be exceptions but beware of pricing on singles immediately following the pre-release.

They will not actually reflect what single prices will be moving forward. We saw this happen already with the Gencon promos. Day 1 they were listing, and selling as high as $200 for a set. By day 4 they were down to under $100. Now they can be found for $60 for the pair. That was all a function of demand exceedingly supply and buyers being impatient.

Be patient, wait for the general release, hell wait a few weeks after that even.

But hey, if you've got the money to burn and lack the patience buy away, it's your money afterall. Just be aware the the going rate after the pre-release is inflated by product scarcity. It will likely not reflect the going rate moving forward.

Trying to horde all the singles for yourself huh, I'm on to you! ;)

That or trying to head off the initial reaction from the CCG=evil lobby to what are sure to be hilarious asking prices for singles.

But if someone wants to list a bunch of Legendary cards at $5, I'd advise you buy. I just think we will be seeing more at the hilarious $50 range then the also hilarious $5 range.

Mostly something I've been thinking about since the pre-release was announced. I know that the price of this game is going to be a common talking point, I'd just like to have the conversation be meaningful as opposed to based on artificial information.
