Seeking Inspiration: Rebel Control

By BlueMusketeer28, in X-Wing

I used to run control all the time, but I recently switched to heavy hitter lists. I am thinking about going back, but I want to mix it up a bit. Any cool ideas?

You need the /D.

the Tie/D stands for Tie/Don't

or Tie/Dice

either way, screw em

control and dice do not go together, because ultimately you have no control over the dice

really, there are 3 big options as I see it

1.) r3-a2 ARC with either Braylen gunner or Thane tactician

2.) Warden Squadron K-wings with Conner net + Advanced SLAM (and hopefully sabine somewhere)

or Deathfire with Conner nets, if you play empire (Deathrain too if we ever see a meta without scouts; poor guy is too expensive to just get melted in a single turn)

3.) Ventress pilot ability, perhaps aided by rigged cargo (though admittedly not been having as much opportunity to drop the dang things as I would like)

and I can't read "rebel control"

so just r3-a2 ARCs and Conner Ks

I've been toying around with this as an idea, although it only really exists as a U-Boat-free pipe dream. Stress control isn't nearly as powerful as it once was, given the prevalence of Dengaroo (and even Defenders). The t-beams are in there to help against the Dengaroo matchup; if you get him down to one agility, you can hammer him down pretty quickly.

The classic stresshog has become maligned due to torpedos but a gold squadron with btla4 r3a2 and tlt is still a 26 point double stressing little bastard.

Just came up with this one here for 99 pts:

Braylen Stramm: 34 pts

-R3A2

-Vectored Thrusters

-Gunner

-Alliance Overhaul

Warden Sq Pilot: 33 pts

-Extra Muns

-Conner Net

-Advanced SLAM

-Sabine Wren

Warden Sq Pilot: 32 pts

-Extra Muns

-Conner Net

-Advanced SLAM

-Intelligence Agent

I'm honestly curious on why Ion seems a taboo now. I'm guessing it's the need for 2 on a large ship and the loss of damage, but I know from experience an ioned ship is an easy kill the next turn. Especially if you can stress it as well.

VCX with Ion Cannon and a docked shuttle is not the worst rebel control option either, albeit pricey, it is still control and hard hitting.

I wouldn't consider them "taboo." It's just that the only Ion Cannon carrying ship the Rebels have are B-Wings and YT2400s. We know the only real use for the YT2400 and the B-Wings right now aren't in the best place in terms of competitive, which pains me to say it because it's one of my favorite ships. Conner Nets wreck so many things right now and it can guarantee you an ioned large ship in one turn. Ion Cannon turrets are okay, just the range restriction isn't great. Then there's Lieutenant Blount which you can outfit him with Ion Pulse Missiles, GChimps, and Deadeye which is only 21 pts, but you literally give him one job. Ion Cannons themselves are probably my favorite Cannon to put on a Tie/D and Firesprays, Rebels just don't have the greatest carriers for them.

If you want to Ion with Rebels I'd prioritize Conner Net carriers (best on K-Wings), Blount Ion build, and then Ion Cannon Turrets. Take a look at my previous post with the list and you can see the Braylen stressmule + KWing Conner Net combo, which maybe your best type of Rebel Ion/Stress combo.

But both the Y and K can have both.

But only the KWings can SLAM and take Advanced SLAM mod for better repositioning Conner Net dropping.

True

Impatiently waiting for the Ionizing Illicit on Sabine's TIE. Yum.

Came in 18th at last years worlds with this control list

2x Gold squadron Y’s with BTL-A4’s and ion turrets and R2 Astromechs

1 Gold Squadron Y with BTL-A4, TLT and R3-A2

1 Gold Squadron Y with TLT and seismic charge.

It was brutal against bro bots and any dual large list. Stopped Falcons from running a way. Great against palp aces because of the sheer number of shots coming in and soontir had to work to stay out of so many arcs. Ironically, I lost to a TLT spam list opening round. And a Kavil, 2 tlt Y list in the 5th round. This list could murder everything, except other Y’s. Triple jumps took it out of commission but against Dengaroo, it should be just fine.

Then there's Lieutenant Blount which you can outfit him with Ion Pulse Missiles, GChimps, and Deadeye which is only 21 pts, but you literally give him one job.

Similar but perhaps more effective is Ten Nunb with Ion Torpedoes, G'chips and EPT/crew of choice. Costs twice as much as Blount but gets twice a many ordnance shots, the splash ionisation is great vs swarms and he is still a heavy hitter once the torps run dry. Plus, like Blount, he is guaranteed to hit meaning he can strip stealth devices from Soontir and his ilk.

Braylen with Gunner R3A2 and title is pretty brutal. Make sure not to use the title as it is optional for the first shot to be able to trigger the second.

Thinking of trying these lists at some point ... both 100

Generally rebel control is hard to go "all in" on. Braylen with r3a2 and gunner is awesome as mentioned above, as rebels you almost always have to pay the biggs tax, so you get 42 points for the hitters or denial of youe choice.

Wedge instead of Corran?! That seems like a pretty brave idea. How do they kit out Wedge? I'm assuming Janson and Biggs are standard.

Haven't looked into the Corran build, but i'm assuming it's with R2-D2, at least.

Wedge right now for the most part seems to be, BB-8, Plasma torps, IA, and if you have the points PTL, if not adaptability or VI.

Also, Lt. Blount has a lot of controlling ability: Give him Ion pulse missiles or Advanced Homing Missiles

They were the last two undefeated lists at GenCon; one of them made Top 4. I'd say that's better than "okay."

VI, R2-D2 and FCS seems to be the minimum effective Corran build and comes in at 42 points (perfact for pairing with Super-Dash). PTL and EU are popular too but bump the price up a lot while costing you that PS10. If you are running VI Wes then you can probably manage with Corran on PS8.
