EotE.. Great dark force powers??

By LordEnforcer, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

If I wanted to create a dark side / sith type character... please tell me what kind of career, skills and talents would you have?

also what would be your force abilities?

In EotE it doesn't really matter since that's not a really a huge thing.

In Force and Destiny though... That's where it comes up. The exact build is kinda up to you and what you want to do with the character. Mostly Darksiders work about the same as light siders, the big difference being they'll find the force a bit easier to use and certain force powers do slightly difference things in the hands of a dark user. For example the "Heal" power becomes "Harm" in the hands of a darksider.

The only for-sure thing you'll want to do is start with the Darkside Morality option instead of bonus XP or the Lightside options.

Also, just something to consider, the darkside is easier to use, but it tends to be less powerful, so if you plan on making a lot of use of Force Powers (not to be confused with Force Talents) you may want to focus a little tighter on one or two powers and invest in getting your Force Rating up as opposed to a Lightsider that can usually make a lower FR work most of the time and instead buy up a suite of powers. But again, that's a matter of character style and Power vs. Talent utilization.

Other than that, it's kinda up to you. What do you think of when you think of a Darksider? What do you see as what they do and how they do it? Do you want to be a brutish hulk like Gorc? Or perhaps a slick stealthy assassin like Ventriss? A Mastermind like Palpy? More the overall warrior like Maul? All are viable Darksiders, but how they are built is quite different.

I'm not sure if you're asking about an NPC or creating a player character. If it's an NPC, do whatever feels right. If it's a PC, consider this:

The Sith and other Dark Side Force powers users don't play well with others. It's an inherently selfish philosophy. That is going to be an elephant in the room for your play group and you may be encouraging group conflict where your GM doesn't want it.

Aggressor, Terror and Improved Terror. That Talent is essentially a Force power that uses Coercion and saves you from really having to sink xp into Force powers if you'd like a path that's "quicker" "easier" and more "seductive".....

It's not an obvious one, but he'd probably want to invest heavily in Willpower and Discipline, too. It wouldn't do for your badass dark jedi to be pushed around and intimidated by a 10 year old.

My thoughts were like palpy.. but still thinking

OK, so your two top specs will probably be Consular:Sage or Mystic:Seer, as they both have two +1FR talents and fir the mold of a Face/Leader/Mastermind type. Look at pumping Int, Wil, and Pre. Add a saber spec if you like, the one that matches your highest Ability score is the obvious, but it may be worth it to consider one of the other trees if you need specific talents like reflect. If you find yourself boxed in and needing more power look at the Emergent UniSpec as it has an easy to reach +1 FR and lots of other handy Talents to boot.

If you want to branch farther afield (not recommended really, but an option) check the Figurehead Tree in Lead by Example.

Power-wise, don't overdo it, find the three or so powers that you want most and go there. Also look to powers that require a die to be committed, as that kicks the rolling out and leverages the power well.

Good powers to think about as a Palpy type: Foresee, Battle Meditation, Enhance, Move, Influence, Seek, and of course the expensive Unleash

Again, pick the ones that matter most and build them up to the functional level you want before investing in other. One of the pitfalls of a Force user is buy too many things and not focusing on what's important.
