13 Gozantis

Could this work?

13 Gozanti Assault Carriers, and Darth Vader

400 points

My thoughts - You've GOT a red die. You do concentrate fire. You throw 2 red dice with each one. You've got Vader so you can reroll whatever you like - probably average like 3 hits per ship that way? You are looking at almost 40 damage per turn at long range - and even if they have braces and redirects..... they are gonna run out before you even get started. Obstructions would certainly be your enemy, so you'd have to deploy in a V type formation, and hop your opponent doesn't outmaneuver you.

Granted this would be crazy expensive, but has anyone ever tried it?

Fascinating.

You could do 12 Gozanti, Motti, and Veteran Captain on each for 396 points.

Or if you want to be hilarious, 10 Gozanti, Motti, Veteran Captain, and Repair crews. 374 points.

I really, really want to try this, now.

I saw someone try it on Vassal.

They let slip that they were going to try it.

Their opponent brought a single Corvette and Cracken, and won the Game.

Yup. There's hard counters, and then there's Cracken against this. When it is literally impossible for you to get a shot on your opponent in the entire game, the outcome is pretty deterministic.

Would the Concentrate Fire command not overcome obstructed? Or is it added to the pool after the obstruction step?

It is an 'add'.

As all adds are in modify dice, that is after obstruction.

Ok but in a real environment who's normally going to bring Cracken? And I suppose a simpler counter would be to bring a couple firesprays

That's just it... Craken is the hard counter, and that just 'Happens'... I know quite a few players who love Cracken, and we had Steve take out NOVA open with the Crakelator list, as it was... So it is there.

But there are also plenty of soft counters at the same time

Somewhat Reliable Accuracies and Gunnery Teams (which you see on ISDs and even VSD-IIs) are lots of death to it - you have the Red Dice, but as you say, you are severely limited in your deployments in how many guns you can bring to bear at once, because when you start getting closer, if you'r eno tin formation, you start overlapping your own ships fire lanes with your ships and obstructions re-take part.

Interdictors moving Obstacles in creative ways - again, any obstacle is not your friend.

Rhymerballs and anyone bomber-intensive still chew them up - you can only Scatter so much, after all -- and I've even seen packs of TIE Fighters chew them up before being killed by Anti-Squadron Fire...

Funny how different areas seem to have different metas. I've never seen Cracken used in Orlando. Come to think of it, I've also never seen Ozzel. Only seem Garm used once, and only seen Reikien used yesterday for the first time. People here generally use Screed, Motti, and Vader for Imps, and Dodonna, Madine, and Ackbar for Rebs, with the occasional Tarkin or Mon Mothma here and there.

I think I'm gonna give Cracken a shot. You've motivated me to broaden my horizons here.

Cracken is the go to for Rebel swarms now. He works extreme well with TRC90s. I run a 6 activation version with 4 TRC90s, an MC30, a flotilla, and some A-Wings). It's kind bland, but extremely effective. His counter is squadron fire, so if your meta is squadron heavy, that could be why you're not seeing a lot of him.

That's the definition of a **** move.

I would say it was playing the meta.

Picking the objectives to avoid losing seems a bit tricky.

Was it for a tourney or the on going qualifier? Because then it's fair game. Otherwise it seems a little silly.

Thats easy.

Use your Bid to go second.

Have your objectives being:

Opening Salvo

Fleet Ambush

Minefields

Two Objectives that provide nothing (to your or your enemy) in points. And one that benefits only you.

Done.

This is similar to a list i posted in a while ago. I just used 13 Gozanti and Screed.

I find him better because you will always get a guarantee crit.

In the end it will not work against Cracken or any other card to make the attack obstructed.

And additional it is really hard to fly 13 ships without blocking your own attack or fly path.

If you can focus the 13 attacks on one ship, it is deadly. If you have to split it up, you lose to much damage.
