I think i have figured out how to use vassal now for the basic game (kind of)

i downloaded the HotAC extension and have no clue how to load it, but also if i can play the campaign out offline to get the feel for it?

i play HotAC quite regularly anyways but this would give me more awesome ways to play it when the kids are in bed before i dive headlong into the online world.

I'm trying to do this from memory so forgive me if I'm wrong, but Hotac is a vassal extension so the below should help you:

I've played it myself, and once you have it loaded, you will get an extra tab in the 'pieces' menu with all the hoatc extras you will need.

There are a few changes you need to make to the Vassal configuration to make it more HotAC friendly.

Essentially you need to change the Target Lock images, Resize the Ion Clouds and make a few minor tweaks.

Here is a link to a file that details the changes. I've also included the setups for all the missions. Just pick your map, load your squad, then load one of the included continuations, finally edit the Imperial squads to fit your situation and place any obstacles.

Yeah, the Ion Clouds provided in the extension (at least when we used it) were way, way too big. Otherwise it worked quite well. The game will constantly think you're cheating, but whatever.
