How many expansions do you think are possible for Armada?

By Solaris00, in Star Wars: Armada

Ok, so first off, I am a casual player/collector, I live in Australia and I will probably never play in a tournament. Having said that,I love Star Wars and love Armada, it is a fantastic game even if you play by yourself :D

Now I have just managed to snag myself four packs of the very hard to find Tarot card sleeves. With the ships that I currently have (30 ships from wave 1 - 4 both sides) I have the ability to sleeve another 88 ships. Now I plan on average I will get 2 of each expansion (Some like Home One and the Interdictor I will only be getting one of, while flotillas I might get four. NB: I love Home One I just prefer to see only one on the table at a time) and excluding the 8 from the 80 that would mean I have room for another 40 ship expansions.

My question is, do you guys think there will be another 40 ship expansions for Armada?

I was a fan of Empire at War and they already have the vast majority of ships from that game, the only ones that are missing are:

Rebel
Marauder Cruiser
Corellian Gunship

Imperial
Acclamator
Tartan Cruiser
Broadside Cruiser

That leaves another 35 ships assuming that the above are eventually included in the game. Are there enough ships from the target time frame to keeps things going. I am sure FFG and Disney will want to keep producing ships while people are buying so they can always make stuff up.

I am just interested on what people think, I have seen other speculation threads about ships and this to me is just an interesting take on what the future may hold. To me the more ships the better.

Not sure on specific ships, but there's a lot left to pull from. Basically everything from the originals is in already, and now ffg is pulling from rebels. Rebels could still add more ships(and admirals) into cannon before it's done. Though I don't think we'll see much, they have yet to touch clone wars or prequels(I'd be ok with them not going there), at most I think we'll get venators. And if xwing is any implication ffg will continue with the new saga. I think they're waiting on that because of the lack of big ships in tfa.

All in all I think and hope we'll see at least 10 waves still running strong.

There are LOTS of ships. Not counting Clone Wars, Yuuzhan Vong or Pirate factions you still have:

REBELLION

Action VI Transport,
Assault Frigate Mk I
DP-20 Gunship
Marauder Corvette
Quasar Fire Light Carrier
Mon Remonda
Carrack Cruiser
Hammerhead Corvette
Bulk Cruiser
MC-40
Liberator Cruiser
Dauntless Heavy Cruiser
CC-9600 Frigate
CC-7700 Frigate
Bulwark Battlecruiser
Xiytiar Transport
Bulk Freighter
Nebula Star Destroyer
Endurance Fleet Carrier

EMPIRE

Super Star Destroyer
Imperial Customs Corvette
Lancer Frigate
Mobquet Transport

Ton Falk Escort Carrier
Storm Commando Carrier
Strike Cruiser
Star Galleon

Tartan Cruiser
Praetor Mark II Battlecruiser
Resurgent Star Destroyer
Sovereign Star Destroyer
Arc Hammer

And that's not counting fighters or small transports which include any expansion from the X-Wing Miniatures game.

I doubt the would do the Lancer now the raider is out would they? Unless they went crazy AA on a unit.

I'm all for the ships from the old Rebellion/Supremacy game, as noted above- the Dauntless, Bulwark and the Liberator especially.

Remonda is also cool as an even heavier battleship for the rebels/new republic. Eclipse class for the Empire of course

Are you putting each of the two types of a particular ship in a sleeve back to back e.g. Corvette A one side with the Corvette B card reversed behind it so you can flip between them. If you had been sleeving them separately then this halves the amount of sleeves needed.

The newcanon's brought in the Lancer (Before the Awakening) so I wouldn't rule it out.

The wingless Liberty from the original trilogy is still missing. Someone on here had a picture of it and Home One side by side. That would possibly be a window for a General Calrissian.

Honestly, a lot of EU stuff was unforgivably stupid (looking at you, Skippy the Jedi Droid). A lot of the rest had so little market penetration as to be unknown to all but diehards. I would rather they tap TCW cartoon show for material than most of the EU.

Id think there will be more campaign boxes like corellian conflict that will also add maybe models in the future?

What part of Australia btw?

The Braha'tok is another Original Trilogy ship lacking from the game (besides different versions of ships like the ISD-I or the Tector SD).

From Rebels we have the Quasar Carrier.

I'm confident that our wallets will cry for a long time... in a galaxy near, near...

We do have a ton of existing ships they CAN pull from, but we also have a ton more episodes of Rebels and other new content coming out, which will likely provide new ships as well.

In terms of game-mechanics, there are lots of things they can still do. We have some brand new upgrade types that have just been introduced with the flotillas and the Interdictor, so they've shown that they can introduce all new card types. They can introduce new types of firing arcs, maybe a ship type that asymmetrical firing (Strong Starboard Side, weak Port Side), They could introduce boarding parties and the ability to commandeer your opponent's ships - and tons of stuff I haven't even thought of yet.

But then again, we'll probably just get 6 or seven straight waves of squadrons. Because Armada is a game about tiny little starfighters.

Ship expansions may be finite, but Correllian conflict type expansions, I have to think, could go on indefinitely, offering new squadrons, ship variants, objectives, upgrades etc.

To be fair. They can just about print money by releasing "Wave X Title Pack" with 2 new titles for each ship in a wave.

Anyone in here wanna try and type at me with a straight face and say thwy wouldn't buy those?

I honestly doubt that :D

But let's get our hands on Wave 5 first ;)

I really want a brahatok flotilla.

I'll say it again here: I wouldn't mind updated sculpts while retaining the core game mechanics. I think most of the FFG models are nearly perfect, but could use some finer panel lines and more subdued paint jobs. The Neb-B is the worst mini outside the x-wing, and that's a crying shame since both of those are some of my favorite designs. In my 40k days, it's one way GW made money off of me that I didn't mind: selling all of my old minis and buying the exact same ones again with updates! Same deal with how Hasbro (at one point) kept milking their Star Wars license- keep updating the classics as technology improves, and the crazy fans will keep throwing money at you.

Also, if FFG ever decided to release a "constant scale" 1/7000 line of ships, I'd be down for those as well. The fighters can be photo-etched nubbins :)

I also started doing that a month ago or so, And it really is a sweet way to keep the expense on sleeves down. ;)

I hope that they put out a complete, robust game with a few handfuls of ships and be done. I feel like they've hit the big ones already, so My interest gets less and less with new waves. I don't want the X-Wing syndrome where new ships beat out older ships to the point my old stuff is obsolete in tournament play.

I did think of doing that, but I like the look of the single ship card in a sleeve. Basically I am one of those that FFG are going to make a heap of money from lol :D. Having said that, if we get another 40 expansions and Armada is still looking strong, then I always have the option of doubling the ship cards in the sleeves then :)
