New Starter Set?

By Whashisname, in X-Wing

I have noticed A couple of online companies recently dropping the price on The Force Awakens Starter Set. Is there a new starter coming out out soon? I did notice this behaviour with the original starter set just prior to when "TFA" starter was dropped on us.

They are probably just trying to move a stagnant inventory.

What would even be the point of another starter this soon after we got the last one?

Selling more stuff? A starter with 2 Tie Strikers and a T-65 X-wing .. And then they could even fix the T-65 so it is actually useable and not just the most iconic and loved (perhaps apart from the Falcon, obviously). And then they could sell the single ship Striker with more pilots as stand alone after that.

The TFA starter was to kick off the new era subfactions and provide an excuse to update the core rules and damage deck.

They don't really have a motive to do it again and I doubt they want to crowd the X-wing and TIE fighter design space even more.

That would be really, really dirty trick - give a T-65 X-wing fix in a new starter set... To fix your X you have to buy another big box. I can't even imagine how bad it would be...

They can't release a new core with each movie, well they can but it'll anger the player base.

I intend to buy two striker, and I would love to buy a T65 with a good fix on it, more even if it comes with nice new paint scheme, like the partisan.

So, a box with new obstacles, more dices, tokens and templates, updated rules, new missions... I would be very very happy with a new starter box like these.

You mean like pairing the TIE Advanced fix with the Raider?

I'm more aggrieved at autothrusters only being in the Star Viper. I will never, ever play scum. At least I get to field the Raider and it's a cool model.

The original core set was discounted long before there was even a whiff of the new one. I was seeing them for less than $20 at Target before we'd even seen a Force Awakens teaser.

Why? It's not like they are mandatory. Put cool models and upgrades in and leave it to individual players if they want them or not. As long as they don't do things like force people to use a particular set of damage cards, I don't see the harm.

You're missing a third of the fun then mate! I'm pretty sure they will release another ship with autothrusters when starvipers got their fix...

No, two thirds. I won't play rebel scum or real scum.

I think I've seen the new packaging and details leaked on this forum already; I can't wait!!

You. You know the true power of the dark side. I like you.

The 4 copies in one raider, you could easily get them on ebay rather reasonably.

I hope and trust that when FFG fix the T65, either in a basic set or in an expansion, the title (or whatever) also comes in quadruplicate, as the tie advance one.

And if one day a "Rebel veterans" a "scum aces", or a similar product, put a new title in of E-wings, Scyks, Kihraxzs, firespray or punisher. I also expect it to have several copies.

X-Wing Only. Modification.

When you are dealt a Damage card, you may discard 1 of your Astromech Upgrade cards to discard that Damage card (without resolving its effect).

FAQ

If Integrated Astromech is used to discard R2-D6, any equipped Elite Pilot Talent Upgrade card is not discarded. (FAQ v. 4.1.1, 3/15/2016)

Available Through:

T-70 X-Wing Expansion Pack

Heroes of the Resistance Expansion Pack

Given there are pilots in the core you can't get elsewhere as well as upgrades you can't say it's not a mandatory purchase.

Can rebels get along without Biggs? He's only in the core.

The only t-70 pilot used is in a core.

Personally I don't need a forth set of templates or more dice etc so it harms me to buy a product just to throw most of it away.

The T-65 fix is already out and is far cheaper than purchasing a Raider; it was issued in Wave 8:

X-Wing Only. Modification.

And is a nice one. And the T65 is a perfectly playable ship right now, maybe not a frecuent one in championships (other than Biggs), but a funny and playable one (and I could say the same for the other ships I mentioned before).
But even so, I think it is likely that in a not too distant future, we will meet a T65 title of 0 or 1 point that will increase somehow the offensive potential of the ship (another defensive buff would be to much for Biggs).
Could it be in a potential new starter set?
I don't know, but if it is the case, I hope for four titles in the box, not only one.

Seeing as the Starter Sets seemed to come in cheaper than the ships individually, I don't see the issue. Even if you are throwing away the extra templates etc, it was still a good deal. When I was running Tie Swarms, it was cheapest to get the starter 3 times.

In that way every single expansion of the game is also mandatory, as all of then have some unique pilot on it.
It would be a shame to have to pay for some templates, dice and tokens you don't need. But it would be so, only if the starter set were more expensive than the same number of ships sold as loose expansions. Otherwise those content was given that while it may not be useful, it is certainly not a bane.

I would buy a core set with Scum in it. A three faction core set would give people a better intro to the game, and offer more value to existing players. You could mix it up with a TIE and a TIE/fo, give the Rebels a pair of A-wings with pilots from the Rebels show and Marvel Comics (Shara and Chewie) and use the modified mining guild TIE and a Protectorat for Scum.
