Cloud Nine and the New Zealand Nationals

By Satis, in X-Wing Squad Lists

This is a list I put together for the New Zealand Nationals held over the weekend of 8-9th October. I faced a Biggs/Norra/Horton Rebel list, a Howlrunner/Black Crack Swarm (in Top 8 Round), a Corran/Dash (in Top 4 Round), two Dengaroo lists and three Palp Aces variants (Inquisitor/Countess, Vessery/Countess, Whisper/Backdraft)

I'm from Perth in Western Australia and was on holiday in NZ with my wife. I bought the ships just prior to my flight over and then was on a camping holiday in the South Islands Alpine region in the week leading up to the tournament so I basically had a couple of games with them prior to Nationals.

In the Swiss Rounds I finished 3rd, just missing out on 2nd and top spot on MOV only. I lost one game in Swiss and that was to the eventual tournament winner. The only two players to beat me faced each other in the final and have both flown their Dengaroo and Corran/Dash lists to many Store and Regional Championships.

I'm really excited about this list as it proved to be able to hunt down Palpmobiles and Manaroo, it dealt with high agility Aces, it got through token stacking Defenders, and I deliberately flew straight at the Crack Swarm and beat it!

I saw that list on the FB group afterwards, and thought someone has a bit of a Glitterstim habbit. :D

That combined with Countermeasures would make them pretty tanky

Hope you enjoyed our Nationals, and your wife tolerated it. ;-)

That's an interesting list. It's got a lot of passive modifiers, and great spike defense to stop alpha strikers -- I could see Glitterstim + Countermeasures being very powerful. Plus you've got Ketsu for Dengaroo control and Assaj for ace control.

Huh.

Very cool.

I really want to try it out now, but I don't want to buy another Shadowcaster -- my wallet hurts already! :P

Was there ever any choice/option instead of countermeasures? I know some people really hype the gyro card. I was just thinking the countermeasures is a one trick pony - a good trick - but still a one time use.

I was tempted with Gyroscopic Targeting but in all 8 game I played in the tournament (a tough draw against 2 Regional Finalists, a Regional Winner the eventual National Champion and Runner Up) there was only one game where Gyroscopes would have been useful, and even then I had popped Countermeasures and Glitterstim in Range 1 of a Howlrunner Crack Swarm which saved me more damage than I would have managed to inflict with Gyro. However, that's my play style, Gyro might suit others style better.
