Multiplayer x wing in a bar.

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing

Birthday is coming up and ive secured a pool table at a local watering hole to set up some playmats.

I don't expect more than 4-5 buddies to get some lasers and bourbon going on.

I haven't made up my mind on a format yet. Probably just set up small point 2-3 ship squads and whenever someone wants in they just....pop in.

Or...some sort of hunger games style dealy.

Anyone done hyper casual multiple player stuff before?

If people are going to be popping in and out, hunger games is the way to go probably, or maybe run several Arturi Cluster missions.

Sounds like a game I wouldn't mind playing ...

When I've done three player games before, we just did two ships 100 pts each and free for all ..

Hopefully other people here will come up with some good ideas for ya

Has everyone played before, or is everyone new? If new, getting them to play may take some doing.

If everyone has played before, then hunger games style is cool. We did something similar for my birthday. We had 3 empty shot glasses as targets. Blow up the shot glass while not getting blown up by other players. Blow up the shot glass and you drink a shot of Angels Envy (my Bourbon of choice). To be clear, the bourbon was optional and kids/adults could have shots of green cool-aid or a Maraschino cherry. Each person could have either two Rebels or two Tie fighters. There were 12 of us and our kids. I still remember my wife rolling her eyes over the game but everyone was laughing just the same and she even played. I got ribbed by the wives for being a "man-child" but that was part of the fun. At least in the end eveyone actually participated and it was fun. Later we did actually play billards while others played darts or foosball. I let it go on until everyone except the game geeks had enough. I did not force it. When we get together it is the funny X-Wing story everyone tells.

I just would not push it. If people want to play, then have a good time. If not, then do not push it. It is your bday so have a good time with your friends even if it is not playing X-Wings.

If people have an open mind, you can have a great time. I have experienced "the look" from those disapproving adults but I don't really care.

My brothers bday is November and guess what -- his wife asked them if we are going to play X-Wing again -- HA! I don't believe she will be game convert but she sees this a party game now so I will call it a victory even if she only plays during bday parties. Next year will be next year but this year we tried and everyone is having fun.
