L ackwit does it again, the thread that nobody in particular asked for. This is a thread about Star Wars: Battlefront. Much like the STAR WARS: REBELS thread, this thread is for any and all discussion pertaining to Battlefront that may exist here in the Off Topic forum as a singular, unified spot. As the only major Multiplayer Star Wars title out there right now, it isn't exactly an irrelevant game, even though many have thrown it to the wolves.

Not without justification, either. Battlefront has had many ups and downs, but more of the latter than the former, unfortunately. If you possess a copy of Battlefront for the PC, Xbox One or Playstation 4, then you might even come here to inquire whether or not fellow players wish to partake in jolly cooperation on a galactic theater scale!

So I've gotten into Battlefront again recently after a several month long break. I've got a few opinions about the title and I'm curious to see if anybody else has something to offer. I'm having great fun, but believe me. I can see a lot of the glaring flaws in the game. With all the new DLC and much of the Hutt cartel content gated unless you possess said DLC, it is very much a situation of the Haves VS. the Have Nots. Which really sucks for the new player starting from scratch. Now, with some dedication and free time you can catch up to the other dudes pretty quick but the question remains: Should you really have to in a multiplayer game?

I've always been of the opinion, "No" as a long standing player of the Halo franchise, where level really only lets you wear cooler armor and have bigger bragging rights, but never anything like having an innate advantage over fresh, new players. Everybody is a contender. This is not the case with... Well, honestly, any game by DICE, but it was the case with games like Battlefront and Battlefront II, since they had distinct, rigid class systems.

But I don't see the star cards going away in favor of a rigid class based system in the Sequel Trilogy based sequel, frankly. Many modern games absolutely believe players need a carrot on a stick to keep interest. Which I believe to be completely untrue- if the carrot is never there in the first place, the player must find something else to reward them.

If you ask me, merely enjoying and playing the game should be the reward in and of itself.

Now, is Battlefront a worthwhile product a year later for the new player? If you get the edition with the season pass, yes, absolutely it is. So long as you've got a little free time.

Though, that games are completed a year later is a death star sized problem in and of itself. There's a whole lot to say, a whole lot to cover, and a lot of it is going to flutter between good and bad!

Go ahead and join the year late conversation!

Oh fye, I meant to put this in off topic! My bad!

DICEfront < Pandemic Battlefront II.

Even now.

DICEfront is pretty and that's pretty much all it has going for it: it's more shallow than a TV talent show judge.

Oh yeah, it's definitely beautiful. It's also rather unbalanced but there's some interesting ideas and concepts that I really like about Battlefront. Lots of things have HARD counters but the problem is that you have to unlock these counters, having nothing for it until then.

The thing about the original Battlefront series is that you could access various classes with plenty of utility in different areas of the Battlefield. The way you can do that here is extremely limited, having access to at most in a game, three star card sets- two without a partner. So you either build for something very specifically, or you make a jack of all trades that honestly needs to focus on ONE task at a time.

It's a hard way to do things and it isn't anywhere near as fun, but there are some times where the game honestly makes up for it.

I disagree. It's audiovisually stunning and fails to deliver in any other department.

I just got this, though without the season pass. Any DLC you'd recommend as absolutely worth it?

The DLCs are new maps and a few hero units. I wouldn't bother: they're very pricey and Battlefront simply doesn't have the longevity to make them worth it: by the time you've played enough that the vanilla maps and modes wear thin the bare bones gameplay has worn thin too.

To be honest if you're set on EA Battlefront I'd save your money for the sequel which may fix the so shallow you couldn't drown a fly in it problem. EA fully intends to make a serial game of this.

Phew, what a question. Death Star is pretty cool but has its flaws. Cloud City is neato and is REALLY varied, like.

REALLY VARIED.

That said, I think, honestly, the best playspaces thus far belong to "Outer Rim". Lots of corridor and open spaces. Not a lot of places to use a cycler, T-21B, or Pulse Cannon but there's plenty of environment to use to your advantage.

With Scarif coming out it's super hard to say. I'd have advised just buying the season pass'd version in good faith, but you haven't made the worst decision. What platform do you play it on? I'm on Xbox One.

This is actually really good advice.

The sequel Trilogy Battlefront will definitely have more content at its disposal and could definitely throw/mix some old stuff in as well. I fully expect it to be quite good by comparison.

Thanks! I think I'll skip the DLC for the moment then, the main reason for getting it was well, Star Wars, but at the price of one x-wing miniature.

I'm also on Xbox. aArendsvark is the screen name, if you're ever desperate for a teammate who makes you look great by comparison. Oh, and I don't often have a headset on (kid asleep nearby).

Maxed out to level 50 (I think) last December, haven't touched it since.

How has it been with all the new releases and whatnot?

Aah! A proud father. I understand- not personally, but I get it. Captain Lackwit over here. Forever and always, until something absolutely horrible happens and I have to adopt a new screen name.

Like some kind of twisted Mrs. Puff scenario.

I'll send a friend request your way. Do note that I've got a headset on rather often and I'm kinda chatty.

Well there have been several rebalances of varying effectiveness. I'm not quite as Poe Dameron as I used to be in Fighter Squadrons but I ain't a slouch either.

Just wish I was half as good at XWMG as I was FS.

As for the releases, I haven't been focusing super hard on the DLC. but, as a flyboy my favorite has been Death Star, given that I can fly in the trenches and whatnot..!

Like I said in the OP, a lot of stuff is gated by the DLC- weapons and such, with the hutt contracts. Fortunately, a reliable A280C or E-11 and a jetpack is basically all you need to succeed.

Well, that and a Bacta Bomb. That thing is the meta right now, even moreso than the vaunted TL-50 Repeater, which is just stupidly overpowered.
