Painted ugnaughts and junk droids!

By MythicalMothman, in Imperial Assault Painting and Modification

Finished painting my ugnaughts, and also found some old WotC minis online to repaint as custom junk droids. The droids especially were a lot of fun - tried to go crazy with weathering and ugly color combinations and stuff.

Ugnaughts

Closer detail on droids

I found concept art and movie stills to use as a starting point for most of them - the green ugnaught is based off a few illustrations from FFG and elsewhere; the blue ugnaught is based off some ugnaughts Leia talks to in the movie; the astromechs are based off a few different cards from IA and X-wing, with a lot of liberties taken; and the Gonk is based off movie stills from Force Awakens and Rogue One.

Overall they were a lot of fun to paint, and I think they'll look good on the table even if they aren't the most useful for actually winning.

These are so great. Awesome work.

Also here are the pics for those too lazy to click the links above:

Makes me really want to paint some of my old WOTC droids to go with the Uggies.

I think it's worth doing - not a fan of the original paint jobs on the WotC line, plus it's a good excuse to add a bunch of grime/damage/etc.

These look great! I might have to pick some of these up at some point. My only concern is the rule stating companions can end their activation on the same space as other figures- less of a problem for tokens than figures, for sure.

Anybody know, by any chance, if there's a Salacious Crumb figure too?

I've looked a little, haven't found anything except Lego :/

For overlapping, I'm planning to just keep the cardboard token underneath so I can pull the figure off whenever necessary.

there is one on the same base as Jabba the Hutt, from the Rebel Storm set.

He could be cut off.

however that piece can be expensive

Last I checked the Jabba figure is going for $37, and I really hope that FFG puts out a R4 and R5 miniature at some point, the WOTC ones are okay but they just are too small compared to my R2 army. Plus...I want to paint a good 5 or more of each to be run with an X-wing campaign.

How's the crumb figure? I'm considering buying that as well.

That Crumb figure is tempting, but it all depends on the scale, he needs to be really tiny. I've seen Crumb action figures that Kenner and other companies have sold but I'm pretty sure they're all way too big, like Crumb would be as big or bigger than a stormtrooper. It's hard to tell if that Micro Machines one on eBay is too big or not...
