Psyker/untouchable character

By vichn, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hello everyone.

I am currently working on a character and since I am an avid psyker player I wanted to go on with the role (I already have one psyker character) while somehow make it new and interesting.

While I was reading lore/lexicanum/novels/forum I had a lightning stroke me - if there are psykers used on the battlefield and there are untouchables used on the field both by Imperium, why can't I make a character that is both in one body? I know that sound a bit dumb at first, but imo it is awesome.

My Psyker is an AAT psyker who was shifted to Ordo Xenos to track down Eldar due to his uncanny abilities of detecting not only psychic energy but also the types of sources of that energy.

The mechanism of him being psy/anti-psy is the following: being avid for the power of Eldar psychic abilities, he studied corpses of dead Eldar on the battlefields to analyze and collect shatters of Wraithbone armor and shards of destroyed soulstones. Years of research led him to creating Wreathbone implants to enhance his psychiс abilities and body and his very own Soulstone, which he always carried (I can support this from pieces of lore and novels - there are human characters whose souls were trapped in soulstones ("Farseer" by William King) and there are Untouchables who use collars/wristbands to shut off or release their anti-psy field (Eisenhorn part 3: Pariah).

Now I am working on the Ordo Xenos vs. Eldar encounter that led to the death of my character, his soul being trapped in his custom soulstone and since he is a very potent psyker someone (???) decided to save him for the future use and so the soulstone was transplantated to a braindead/dead/comatose Untouchable. To supress the anti-psy field of the new body my character's Wraithbone implants are used.

Any suggestions? Such surgery must have been made by Radicals of some sort since no one would allow to use Eldar technology in Imperium... I guess. Or it might have even been done by Eldars Healers since soulstones are their technology and for some reason they decided to save the human psyker who devoted himself to Eldar technology... am I gone too far?

Speaking of Eldar, there might be Solitaire involved since they are Eldar Untouchables.

Also the use of Wraithbone in human body gives incredible endurance and durability to the bones and maybe giving psychic powers boost. To make it more interesting I decided that since Eldar can feel and manipulate objects made from Wraithbone they are always aware of my Psyker.

My GM has already approved this so there is a lot of work to do. :) Hope to see your ideas and critique.

You can't do it by RAW. Both variants of Untouchable (DotDG p.28 and RH p.38) clearly say: "non-psyker character" / "you may not pocess Psy Rating" respectively .

Well as Jargal said you cannot mechanically be allowed to do this.

Why can't you make both? Well because they don't exist, period. No special snowflake exceptions. A psyker and untouchable are simple the anathema of one another. Like so much anathema that a psyker is violently ill sometimes around untouchables, heck sometimes they'll even die in certain situations. They don't exist because they can't.

What about the AAT makes you knowledgable about the Eldar, and what about your psychikry makes you good at tracking energy types? What do energy types have to do with psycic powers anyways? Last I remember psychic was used to track psychic, and that's about it.

Farseer is not a well liked piece of lore to draw from in the general audience of the fanbase. Mainly because of stuff like you mention. That entire paragraph screams of heresy, and loads of stuff just one character shouldn't be able to do. Not only did you track Eldar, but apparently you are an expert xenobiologist, an expert in wraithbone reverse engineering, an expert in xenotechnology and radical thought implementation, but you ALSO got ahold of a soulstone. Something Eldar routinely kill lots of people for.

THEN you were brought back from the dead...what?

Not only that but your idea is flawed on the precept that wraithbone suppresses untouchableness. It doesn't, a device that mimics a gellar field would but wraithbone is explicitly for psychic manipulation that's about all it does.

Suggestions? Come up with a new idea one that isn't so insane and (I hate using this term) mary sueish as this.

If no one was allowed to use Eldar Tech then why were you allowed to lug around a soulstone and get wratihbone? Why would Eldar bother healing some monkey that got ahold of a soul stone for the slap in the face that is an animal messing around with their sacred wraithbone?

Yes, too far, like your first sentence was leagues to far and now we're 20.000 leagues below that.

Sure why not add to the ridiclousness, except wratihbone won't mess with your endurance, it's strength is determined by the psychic manipulation that built it. Why don't the Eldar just kill you then? You took a soul stone, you're a walking corpse of anathema and you have wraithbone in you. You're a frankenstien of like everything the Eldar don't like.

Well your GM honestly is a lot more loose than I am. That's about the only comment I have left.

I'm not sorry for being harsh on this, honestly it got a bit more insane as it went along, but the ending was the kick in the teeth, who's the person that allowed this concept. For real, did they not read the first few lines of Untouchable where it explicitly states you can't do this?

Well, we discussed it again and seems like we understood each other wrong. :) He agreed on Eldarized human psyker that wears soulstones to enhance his abilities, but on the Psy/anti-psy character. Pity, though... It would have been very complicated and interesting to play.

I don't know about "Eldarized" but this you can actually draw from. In the novels comprising the Inquisition War there's a character that emulates the Eldar Harlequins.

However note that Inquisition War was one of the first novels published so quite a bit of that stuff isn't generally accepted anymore either.

I'm surprised that so far nobody has come with the idea of Untouchable Psyker who is actually a Discordant Tech-Priest under Cistron disguise...

I would love to play a feral worlder who is both and Untouchable and Discordant just for the "Roleplaying fun" of an null to both Psykers and Tech

Ugh. Can't you just play a psker who's good at countering other psy powers (That should be possible right? Like playing a heavy counter blue deck in magic the gathering ;) )

But a psyker pariah- Gaaaaah! Why not a khornate chaos sorcerer? I honestly have less problem with half-ork female space marines with tyranid boneswords for melee weapons. Urg. This is why I don't GM.

Plus your own null field would shut down your psychic powers. (Altough that could be fixed with a limiter.)

Also a psyker can't stand to be in the presence of an untouchable: Congratulations! Your character spends every moment of his life in cripling nausea.

It's easy - just stop using anything electricity-based and start to insult everyone you meet :-)
