A Relic Copied

So, I have two sort of silly questions, to pose to the people here. One of my characters has a fancy weapon; in his case, a best-quality Inferno Pistol. He wants to give something similar to his daughter, but he can't, due to "family rules" of his dynasty.

  1. An Inferno Pistol, even an "average" example of this above average gun, is exceedingly hard to find, and he intends to go for better, likely Good-quality. Without just looking at the table, and saying "an Inferno Pistol is Very Rare, and GQ makes it Extremely Rare, so it averages out to +0", I'm imagining when the book says "perhaps only a dozen in the whole sector", regarding the perceived rarity of Inferno Pistols, one might need to go to a Forge World, and beseech the AdMech to make one to your specifications. Should one really just be findable?
  2. If the Lathes, for instance, are the only way to go, to get one, how long should it take for the AdMech to make this singular sidearm? More importantly, when money, alone, stops moving one, what might be a good thing to have them ask for, that isn't totally a slap in the face?

Don't the crafting rules have timescales for creating an item? I know some line does. If not make the time of acquisition into the time of crafting.

as for your second question, well a trade could work. Or doing something for them Admech always have something going on that they want to throw someone to the meatgrinder to get.

Well, with the amount of times the lines have said "a version of the technology almost impossible to produce, now", it sort of feels like it shouldn't be that easy. Then again, maybe a Magos just happens to have one attached to a mechadenrite, and would part with it. ;)

As for the favor to the AdMech, I suppose I'll have to think on it. Something they want, and can't just go do, even if there is something there only a Tech-Priest would understand, but not SO ludicrously difficult that it doesn't warrant JUST ONE gun, even a particularly fancy variant of a particularly fancy gun. I suppose, on the other hand, the Sisters of Battle do sometimes carry inferno pistols (I think Seraphim occasionally dual-wield the ridiculous things), and they DO have some history, with the character in question. Might be easier to do a favor for them, in exchange, assuming they can be persuaded that some people actually seek compensation for their "good deeds".

Indeed. Master-crafted weapons probably can still be produced, but it's a case of finding a Magos prepared to do so.

A Sororitas order with a reliquary weapon will be very hesitant to part with it - but might be prepared to do so in return for support for something important. Acting as transport for a pilgrimage might do it - not for scruffy unwashed, but a pilgrimage for Ecclesiarchal higher-ups; deacons, bishops, etc - to a holy world outside imperial space. Providing for their (refined) needs and assisting their Sororitas bodyguard in garuanteeing their safety strikes me as a nice, medium-level endeavour which should net you a bundle of peer/good reputation talents and justifies a gift of such a weapon as a mark of respect.
