3rd Party Range Rulers and Other Tools

By Undeadguy, in Star Wars: Armada

So my original range ruler is pretty beat up, and I haven't had a lot of time (biology majors don't get free time) to go play in tournaments to win the fancy new tools. I've seen some 3rd party range rulers, and I know they are allowed in the game so long as all the measurements are the same.

Has anyone bought one of these or have any suggestions?

The applied perspectives double sided ruler says it comes unpainted... does that mean the numbers and such aren't on it???

I have the Applied Perspectives dual sided ruler and some of the shorter rulers from Recreator Studios. I would recommend products from both.

I highly recommend Recreator studios, it's my buddies company and he does everything from design to cutting to painting himself, and his products are always quality!

Are the ones from recreator double sided?

No, all of the markings and numbers are etched into the acrylic. They just need to be filled with some paint to make them really stand out.

I've got the Recreator Studios range 1-4 and short and medium battery rulers and they're swell. they're not double-sided but they are transparent (if you buy them that way, which you should), which helps a lot with close situations. 10/10, would buy again.

My only complaint is it's difficult to tell exactly what the color of your acrylic sticks will look like online unless you buy the default grayish. It's a bit of a leap of faith.

Thank's for the feedback! I will let him know and see if he can get a better shot of the material

My Applied Perspectives is awesome. Sturdy, double sided, looks great.

It comes with paper on it, except for what was removed from the etching process, so painting it is super easy, even for untalented goon like myself.

I got mine pop bottle green and a buddy got his blue and we're both happy with them, for the record. I just remember being a bit anxious ordering something where I wasn't sure what it would look like when it got to me is all. That change would be most welcome, as I've pointed a few other guys in our meta towards Recreator Studios when they've admired my rulers and I'm sure they'd be more likely to pull the trigger with a bit more information.

I have the Corsec Engineering rulers and shield dials, and quite like them.

Huh, never seen the Recreator studio stuff, they got some cool looking swag there. May have to give them a try.

Any idea when he will have defense tokens back in stock?

As linked to above, I'll 2nd the Cog'o'Two stuff, my buddy and I really like them. Their fighter rulers are awesome because they're cut at the ends so they sit flush with the squadron bases. Makes it dead simple to move the squadron the max distance.

I have X-Wing templates from Applied Perspective, and I custom ordered some additional length starights, banks and turns. They had no problem accomodating me. I'm sure they'd be more than willing to accommodate requests for double sided shorter range rulers, just email them.

They're etched into the plastic. If you take the time to paint them in it looks GORGEOUS.

Anyone willing to post pictures of the rules they ordered/painted?

No idea, I can ask him next time we play though

Sure, once I figure out how to downgrade iPhone pics so they'll fit on these forums.

I have a CoreSec Eng fighter ruler as well as their range one ruler which is quite handy. Just a heads up though if I recall correctly you need your opponent's permission to use 3rd party tools in tournaments. I've never met anyone who hasn't let me use it but just thought I'd throw that out there.

Edit: I've also never seen anyone make an issue of third party tools.

Here is my applied perspectives ruler (top of the tray):

I used a crayon to fill in the white portions and then painted the diamonds blue/red/black.

Here's my Applied Perspective range ruler, again, it's double sided, so I got a pic of each side.

I got the opaque green or dark green or whatever. On the range side I painted the laser blast with a brighter green. You can see it, but only a little.

On the distance side I painted the numbers and lines black without thinking about it. Turns out that it's not the easiest to see. That's Ok, it's still acceptably easy, but sometimes it's a bit tricky. The problem is accentuated in the photo.
