Phoenix Squadron

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada

True, it has no chance against an capital ship, but that's not its role.

Remember that it was an A-Wing that took down the Executor during the battle of Endor... although not with it's battery armament :P

Battery was involved though.

Also it's cannon via lost stars that the engines were bombed as well, so it wasn't just am a wing

Newcanon Complete Locations seems to have the sequence go as follows:

Warship bombardment overwhelms main shields - bridge is now strafeable

Bridge is strafed by A-wings

Local area shield projector (and sensor) is disabled, causing defensive weaponry to lose accuracy and losing the protection of the shield

A-Wing crashes through bridge window - and the explosion spreads through the tower.

I tried reading Wookiepedia on the Awing and it is a mess.

-It is not reconcilable with the Rogue squadron series. Tycho explains that the reason Awings were rare in early days was that they were built in ones and twos. His Awing at Endor had some goofy wooden panels on it. This doesn't fit with the Awing being a Kuat Drive Yards design.

-Did Dodonna or KDY design this?

-How did a Rebel general have time to design an ENTIRE starfighter? OR Why doesn't it look like other KDY designs?

God am I glad that Disney told the EU to pound sand.

In the EU, all pre-ANH A-wings were retconned into being the "R22 Spearhead" which was basically almost identical to an A-wing but slower and with better shielding.

The newcanon approach is almost exactly the same as the EU's - except, the older, slower, better armoured ships don't have a name of their own now - they're just A-wings. And (as far as we know, so far) it didn't take a special design team led by Dodonna to change the old ship, any more.

Legends Complete Locations depicted an R-22 Spearhead in the Yavin Rebel Base. Newcanon Complete Locations has relabelled it as a Phoenix Squadron A-wing.
