TLTs are seemingly now my friends go-to; how can I deal with them?

By clanofwolves, in X-Wing

So I'm no expert, but I'm slowly getting better each game (I hope); but getting into X-Wing not quite a year ago coupled with the new ships and abilities/mods that keep being added in has me at an informational overload at times. I try and keep ships simple at first and then slowly add upgrades or flying styles to attempt to understand all of the possibilities and uses as I go prior to adding layers seemingly more layers of squad complexity. Then there are my friends I play against most, they're heading for the best, quickest, easiest kill of my squads.

My new problem on the mat:

I'm still flying fighters mostly (most older mods have been flushed out in my brain I think), although I am adding ordinance to the X's, A's, TIE Pro, (even a Bomber or B from time to time to learn how they roll) etc. but I'm.....running...... into......the......dreaded......Twin Laser Turret........this b*&%h bites; help!!!!

General thought for you focus in on 1 of your friends ships, and use higher PS so you can destroy a ship before it shoots at you.

Also older ships are fine, can you list what you have and what you normally run?

Take ships with boost and equip Autothrusters, watch them cry.

This or if you have older ships run a tie swarm, (if friendly games ask to proxy Crackshot) there is a reason the first pain in the but list is still winning worlds and such. again tell us what you own and the forum can build you something stupid to fly that will work. hobojebus is good at building lists.

Couple ships can deal real well with twin laser turret. Auto thrusters are your new friend

Poe with auto thrusters can take on an entire squad of tlt. I know because I've done it myself. Make a squad with Poe with auto thrusters and r2d2. Stay out of his arcs, and watch him struggle trying to kill Poe.

Fel is also great against tlts if your good at staying out of arc. Fel with push the limit and auto thrusters, and stealth device is near impossible to hit. If you have the emperor put him on a shuttle and again your buddy will struggle.

What type of squad is your friend running with tlt?

Use Autothrusters and be invulnerable, especially Soontir Fel is good (read: ungodly) for this.

I would rock something stupid like this against a tlt swarm (if you have older ships and a Tie f/o pack) because you have a real chance to take out 1 and with some crits 2 before they are shooting at you,

Time to find new friends!

Time to find new friends!

coffee was spit on this one. Cheerio !

Fast ships (especially ones with boost and/or barrel roll), and autothrusters.

(basically what everyone else has just said)

Avoid 1 or zero agility ships wherever possible, and practice your distance work when engaging; try to land just outside of range 3, then you can probably force the opening shots at range 1.

High pilot skill with repositioning options works wonders here, ordnance can be used to alpha strike one of the tlt's before it can fire, and if rebels shield regen will help (but will only take you so far).

They are very beatable, but you need to be able to control the range of the engagement.

Green Squadron Pilot, wired, push the limit, autothrusters (title and refit).

Add as many as you can, he won't win a game with tlt again :-D

I am going to be using the following build when the Up shuttle comes out to break people that fly low ps ships. This build will push 7 damage to a ship with a chance at 1 extra if something overlaps. I know its going to kill itself but I am happy that 1 or 2 ships will disappear before this is off the board. Bring Whisper or a defender and now things will suck for someone flying against you.

Kylo Ren — Upsilon-class Shuttle

Expose/Reinforced Deflectors/Agent Kallus/Darth Vader /Anti-Pursuit Lasers/ Kylo Ren's Shuttle

Ship Total: 50

EDIT here is what I am thinking for the rest of the build which is 100 points,

Countess Ryad with Adaptability/Twin Ion Engine Mk. II/TIE/x7

I approve of this ship build.

I've yet to lose to quad TLT's with the Rebel squad in my signature. Stay out of the primary arc and autothrusters can really help. If you can get Jake really close behind one of them, you can ride it like a little spider monkey.

Why not depict the movement of X-wing's meta and use Triple Scouts to wipe quad tlts off the map? :)

Or use the HOTAC AI.... :-)

I know right, people are going to complain for at least a year you gave a 4atk large ship with a good PS an EPT slot....

One thing I have to say though is people usually use something they like, they sometimes tend to stick to it. This can lead to other issues. One thing my buddy hates is biggs. I like biggs, and is in about 85-90% of my rebel squads. However when we want to play fun games I don't use him. It's not like he can't beat him, but if he flies something that doesn't handle biggs well it tends to make it unfun. For both of us.

In the case of the op here if his buddy is flying tlt because he wants to win, and that's his definition of fun he may soon find he has no one to play with. agree or not it can turn people off, especially if you are up against the same old thing. "hey want to play XWing"?

Ponder how bad he'll lose against the same old squad

"No, not really let's do something else"

I don't want to turn off the 1-2 people I have to play with as I don't have any XWing community in my area, and these are the only people I get to play with, so I always mix it up. Some night I'll lose 4 games in a row, and others I'll win, and next week fly something else

Really wish we did have a local community but my province sucks.

However if I do get stomped 4 games in 1 night by my friend I may break out biggs :P

After 4 wins he's usually ok with that, and he'll do the same, if I stomp him all night, he breaks out palob or jax and fel

The key to fighting TLTs is to get into Range 1, where they can't hit you, and then putting as much damage into them as possible.

Because very soon, triple jumps aren't even going to be a thing. Stay tuned for a FAQ update.

Spill Coca-Cola on his cards "accidentally"

Well, I have all the ships through wave 7 (and one or two beyond) with multiples of my favorites. You guys have great ideas. We laid out our lists last night for tonight's game, don't laugh, but let me know what's gonna be less-than-best against the TLTs (as I learn the hard way, haha):

Ryad (Juke, x7 title)

The Inquisitor (Proton Rockets, TIE/v1, Autothrusters)

Tomax (Crackshot, Extra Munitions, Guidance chips, Proton Torpedoes)

Not sure what your buddy running, but that imp list should be able to handle tlt.

You have good potential to kill 1 before it shoots, get into range 1 of others, and stay out of arc with Inquisitor. If tomax gets both his missles off before he's dead, great, he'll be a decent meat shield at that point.
