I did a boo boo.

Calculate what the ball and chain has spent on shoes you'll feel better.

Are we supposed to win this competition or make it competitive and let them win?

It depends on how much sex you want to have.

And I'm not offended Hobojebus, but I do feel sorry for you.

I fail to see logic here. Anyone can also calculate how much was spent on restraunts / movies / drinks / numerous other things we do for fun or relaxation. Guess what - board games are the same, and X-Wing is certainly not the cheapest, but not the most expensive, too.

Problem is, some spendings are not very smart *looks at 5 Scyks on the shelf, starts crying*

Absolutely. . .in my circle of friends, I spend an insane amount of money on dining out, but I consider the money well spent in an evening of gustatory pleasure with my wife.

Just consider your Scyks "food poisoning." Hey, it happens. :P

Tallying up the cost of my x-wing collection isn't so bad...

Tallying up the lifetime cost of my MTG habit? Now that hurts.

Exact figures are not easy without the collection to hand (not at home at this exact moment), but x-wing comes in at under £1000, and my lifetime mtg expenditure is easily 10 times that.

Yep. Well shy of the M:TG foolishness still as well. . .

This is all true (about the eating out). In fact x-wing comes off pretty favourably compared to quite a lot of things; I don't play golf, I don't fish (just to give a couple of examples). I'm pretty sure that if I did either of those things that I would spend more on those per year than I do on x-wing, and there's a good chance that those examples would top my x-wing and magic spending combined.

ofc there are cheaper pastimes than x-wing, but there are lots of more expensive ones too. A person needs a pastime, a hobby... a pursuit: And as far as those things go, x-wing is pretty cost efficient.

Well, as far as addictions go...I don't smoke, drink alcohol, do drugs, play golf or fish. So plastic crack is it for me. I guess for an entertainment/ hobby, less than two dollars a day over the time I've been playing isn't a bad investment.

Calculate what the ball and chain has spent on shoes you'll feel better.

I've actually spent more on shoes than she has. Just that one pair of John Lobbs is like 6-8 pairs of hers.

Once again, the easily offended manage to derail a topic over an innocuous joke that hurts nobody. Congratulations, whiners.

Yeah, I'm just not going to. If I did with x wing then I would also have to do the same with, MTG, warhammer 40k and fantasy and what I have spent on computers and games...... it's no wonder I'm skint :)

In truth, I wasn't offended until the First Amendment was invoked as permission to be an online ******* instead of offering a small apology to the multiple people who thought the comment was out of line.

Someone then makes a comment disparaging to adulthood and- bizarrely- shoes. This comment also has sexist overtones, though lots of X-Wing players are married to men so I'll give the benefit of the doubt on this one.

So... Who derailed the topic with a comment making fun of spouces and financial responsibility? Someone easily offended, yes. But probably not who you mean.

(Edit)

And since you're probably referring to me as "easily offended", I assure you that I'm not offended. I do, however, feel that it is the duty of a community to set the boundaries of acceptable conversation. And the phrase "ball abd chain" falls outside that bounry. I'm sorry for anyone to whom this comes as a surprise.

...and now back to our regularly scheduled topic...

I think I could afford a new PC by now with all the money I spent for XWing...

I won't even attempt it. I can console myself by remembering that I only buy things on sale, as even my FLGS has a annual membership that makes their prices better than any online retailer I've seen even before shipping costs... but it's still too large a number for me to want to know the whole amount.

This comic seems appropriate:

That's actually a rather small collection.

Except for the Death Star. I want a Death Star...

Same. I just wish I could get mine to play! When I got her into MTG, I discovered she is downright DEVIOUS! Of course, I'm not sure our bank account could handle TWO people buying plastic crack, but I guess we could share...

Except you could share ships.

A new PC isn't all that much these days depending on what you think you've got to have on it. Of course if you want to you can spend a whole lot more although you may be spending more than four times more for something that doesn't even double the performance in the area you are spending all that extra money on.

The question with any PC is what is it that you want to do with the PC. If all you do is surf the web or social media, a tablet is more than enough. If you want to play games at 60fps @ 4K that is a different story. There some in the early threads who have spent $2000+ on X-Wing. That is a lot of PC and a very good gaming rig if that is what you want to do.

I don't know if the equivalents make sense. If at the end, when you have spent that money, are you happy? are you having fun? You can spend less and you can spend more, it is important that at the end you are having fun. I have friends who get together on the weekends and they have several HUGE game books for poker cards. They might spend at most $25 a year on new Bicycle Cards. They are happy and can't wait to play a new and different kind of game. I have other friends with 5K worth of Warhammer 40K, and they are just as happy.

Really, it is not about money or how much you spend but after spending whatever it is, are you still happy and passionate about playing again. That should be the measure.

You don't get to demand apologies when you haven't been harmed. This is why you're a whiner.

The finance guy in me wont stay quiet. I too have invested not a small sum of money into this game. I agree that as far as entertainment goes, this can be and is relatively cheap.

As I regularly teach people; It is not about what you make, it is about what you spend. Showing a 20'something they can retire a millionaire on a McDonalds managers paycheck, own a car and have a roof over your head shocked them. It is much more about spending than it is about what you make. If you are not saving a reasonable amount of your income, than you are doing something wrong. If this fits into the discretionary party of your income... PEEW PEW PEW PEWP PEWWW away!

That only way to justify this kind of thing (I play Imperial Assault too!) is by comparison.

Also, if you received any of your items as a gift or traded anything for them really blow that out of proportion....

I want to LIKE that more than once!

So many people today have a spending problem which is why financial issues are so huge. I'd say it starts at the top, at least in the USA, with a government that spends more than it takes in. It follows through with the mountains of individual debt where people are buying things with credit that they don't NEED and then get caught by some kind of financial turn and are now in over their heads.

I was taught that the only reasons to take on debt are survival (as it if you don't get it you will DIE) and for something that is very likely to improve your earning potential and/or increase in value. Ideally you may try to avoid either of those but in any case X-Wing is neither of those.

If everyone could just learn how to live below their means maybe the so called "economy" wouldn't grow so fast but it wouldn't need to because people would have a buffer for when things go sideways.

im at around 1400USD lol. Fully owning reb/imp including epic ships adds up after awhile lol

The thing about miniatures though is they always look expensive. I dont even wanna know how much 40k i got between my Tau and Orks (for the record i have like 8000pts each lol including a ta'unar). But this is also something we accrue over months/years.

Look at the people who spend their money on events for entertainment rather than toys/games. I got a guy at work that skydives every weekend if the weather permits. He spends as much as i do on my minis if not more. Unless he tallies it up though he will never notice how much he has spent over the years, as repeated events can blur into one event. I cant do that when i open my storage crates and see an asston of models lol.

Or car people. Another guy i work with/went to college with is an audofile car guy. His sub in his car alone is as expensive as the majority of my 40k minis combined lol. and thats ONE PIECE of his kit lol.

im tempted to sell my orks actually but i know im going to hate myself if i do that.

11 slices of pizza is my personal record.

You could share shoes to then think of the extra bank roll you can $tap$ into.

1 pair of women should shoes should easily cover 4 ships.
