I did a boo boo.

By Droidlover, in X-Wing

I think I could afford a new PC by now with all the money I spent for XWing...

A new PC isn't all that much these days depending on what you think you've got to have on it. Of course if you want to you can spend a whole lot more although you may be spending more than four times more for something that doesn't even double the performance in the area you are spending all that extra money on.

The question with any PC is what is it that you want to do with the PC. If all you do is surf the web or social media, a tablet is more than enough. If you want to play games at 60fps @ 4K that is a different story. There some in the early threads who have spent $2000+ on X-Wing. That is a lot of PC and a very good gaming rig if that is what you want to do.

Then of course, the way to your x-wing games might consume energy as well :)

If you are grown kids with a decent job not a big problem. As I say often, friends and co workers invest good money in custom bikes and sailing equipment. They think that paying good money to own a bike they will ride on sunny sundays is OK. So investing in a fleet that you play with every week should be OK

Another thing is that playing X-wing costs only energy for lamps, while high end gaming rigs are really power-hungry. Plus the cost for the respective games.

That's why you install solar panels ;)

My friends find it weird that even though i seem to spend so much on miniatures that i somehow still have more pocket cash they do.

Simple. Money management. Ok not simple lol. I live a very basic life in a 1 room apartment because i dont need more than that, i avoid steaks/take advantage of sales, i drink offbrand sodas (Mountain Freeze is like 2.60USD at Aldi around me, which is HALF THE PRICE of main brand sodas and tastes just fine...12packs btw), i dont eat candy very often if at all, and the only "expensive" thing in my apartment is my computer which i built myself so its about half price what it would be from a retailer lol.

Its amazing how much extra money you got for your little toys when you do these things lol. I actually baffled myself when i looked at my bank account earlier, so i splurged and bought a larger cage for my ferrets since the one theyre in is kinda small.

Unless i want to buy into scum, i have every ship i'd want that is released. My friend screwed up last week and forgot we had a game planned so to apologize he offered to buy me a ship. I said dont worry about it accidents happen because i literally didnt want anything else on the shelf lol.

Meanwhile my coworker that does all this audio stuff is constantly pushing pennies to get by.

Telling ya, it only looks expensive because its "toys" and not a machine of some sort. People justify insane amounts of money on audio systems, cars, bikes, etc etc because theyre "something you use" - well, so are my "toys" so buzz off lol

Even with some online prices and discounts for the epics, I've spent quite a bit on this game. Then again, it's a lot cheaper than 13 years of Games Workshop!

Also, I've bought hardly anything in the past year. Not even one of every ship. I've only used holiday cash and focus group money in the past year, except for some of the Wave 9 stuff.

13 years of GW? i dont even want to know how much that is.

I played 40k for 5 years. And i know my Tau army alone is over 3000USD in value rofl (did i pay that much? nope, ebay armies before tau were cool ftw!)

Yeah, and it was Orcs and Goblins, too. That's a horde army. I think I have 90% of it painted, too. I believe I still have the largest painted Greenskin army in the state, if not the South East. I've got over 500 painted Goblins that has at least 3 layers of paint on everything. I even had enough to do a fully mounted 2250 pt army with Greenskins. Still, my crowning achievement was for my display board. It was an altar for my shaman that has a smoke machine in it.

Go out to eat and you're spending $10-$40.... and it's over in 30 minutes.

Wow, that's cheap. . .and short.

Nice. I never made any displays for my models. Had i made that kustom megaboss using a Wraithknight sword instead of a PK i would have definitely made one for him lol. Sadly after i got that idea orks got a new codex and i just died a little inside. I tried to use the new codex for so long...its just sickening how bad it is. Tyranids are better than orks, and that says something.

Anyway, derailment complete. Carry on with whining about funds :)

I even got greedy and bought some guy's lot for sale. I didn't even NEED any of the ships. LOL. I don't even want to imagine how much I've spent on cores, expansions, and swag!

That's what he said.

I wonder how my spending on X-Wing compare to my spending on:

Lightsabers

Starwars RPGs

Miniatures and misc for RPG and skirmish game use

Lightsabers...now theres a topic for spending money lol.

I have a darth vader costume. Not the super movie-quality one (OUCH THAT PRICE) but still a decent one, though im tempted to rip off the "armor" and apply my own crafts back on so theyre more rigid. The cheapo lightsaber that came with it was using one of those old pos flashlight bulbs that might be bright enough to read with at point-blank range, so being an electrician i modded it to use a 3W LED (MUUUCH brighter) using the same battery pack. Except then i dropped it...and it exploded on the concrete...so now i have no lightsaber unless i want an obviously cracked as hell handle held together with glue/tape lol.

I didnt order it because of the 3-15weeks delay on the "Chosen One" handle (waited too long...oops) but its like 350USD for the **** thing. I have a hard time justifying dumping money of that caliber at ONCE. Might have to do a tax return thing again like i did with my ta'unar (giant tau model)

My faint rationale, at least at the start, was that I was leveraging no-longer used collectibles on eBay and at auctions-for-store-credit, therefore not spending actual cash. About $500. But until I hear what the next auction garners me, I've put some real cash into the collection as well. You can see my ships listed below, so I have been very frugal in my choices.

...

I have four of the Master Replica Force FX and one after Hasbro started making them. I maybe only paied about $80 each but they retail for a good bit more. Then I went and spent $500 on a kickstarter for two customizable, combat durable lightsabers. I guess the total here is close to $1000.

When it comes to the RPG I've got 19 books from the SAGA Edition which is about $500. Then there are the books for the RCR and WEG versions.

Maybe I have more in X-Wing miniatures but that's still seems like a lot if you just write it in single dollar figures.

<OT> I have a really cool double light saber that a buddy of mine picked up at a garage sale. It can be two separate light sabers or it can be connected together to become Darth Maul's weapon. I have no idea how to figure out if it's worth anything. It has been part of my Halloween costume for the past few years though. It has awesome sound effects and everything. :)

Anyway, any tips on how to identify what model / version it might be, and what the value might be would be appreciated. </OT>

My son is the one who got me started on X-Wing. A friend of his introduced him, and he spent a few nights playing at a local game store. I blew it off.

Then one night I had to go pick up my son and his friend, and I got there early enough to see the game being played.

Mumble-mumble dollars later, and I'm all-in. Initially I bought only Rebel, because my son wanted to fly Imperial. Then I discovered "Heroes of the Aturi Cluster" and decided I needed to beef up my fleet so I could run that campaign for my son and his friends. I picked up a big batch (20 ships or so) on eBay that was primarily Imperial. At least I could ignore the Scum faction, because I was never going to fly that.

So later after buying two copies of the Most Wanted pack, I had my Houndstooth paired with Dengar in a Jumpmaster, and was having a blast flying them.

At least I've only bought one two ARC-170's.

So far.

I went and did something just for the hell of it. Now I wish I hadn't. Please don't make the same mistake. If my wife finds out the truth, she'll fry me with force lightning for sure. She will then burn me on a pyre of all my Xwing stuff.

I went and calculated the retail price of every piece of Xwing I own. I have been playing consistently for almost three years now, and have acquired a fairly decent collection. I will admit that there are several ships that I refuse to buy, and I do not own any epic scale ships. I also know that there are many here (and those I know) who well surpass my collection by a factor of three or four, but I still was shocked at my final tally. I'm not posting numbers, as I don't want this thread to become THAT kind of comparison. But has anyone else been shocked at their accumulated tally over the years?

Meh.

I spend more money on hookers and crack cocaine.

Well I would, if I did.

80 for a lightsaber? that has to be purely just a lightstick.

Ive never, ever seen one that was actually durable (i.e. stunt ready) or has FX or both be cheaper than 200.

I just priced my collection. Not including any swag, it is at just under $1900... ouch.

No real idea. The MR ones have metal construction and leds up the blade so they glow uniformally. Overall each is about 4' long but I'm in a rush now so that may not be exact. There are plenty of cheaper versions as well.

Nope, genuine Master Replica versions with boxes and all. It just required a LOT of patience to find them around half of the $150 they may retail for. I have Windu, Vader, Anakin (blue one), and Yoda's lightsabers. Later picked up Luke's RotJ in the Hasbro version. None of them are really something to take out and use for hard contact. Did order a pair of the new Kybersabers through their kickstarter that were plenty expensive but have a guarentee on the blades; hope to get these soon.

When I look at those other StarWars things I've bought over the years I'm not sure that X-Wing is the worst out there. I mean how much did anyone spend (or have spent for them) on the Micromachines or other toys that didn't have a game system behind them and probably weren't as high in quality.

i would be highly interested in these lightsabers if they have a darth vader replica, since thats what i need for the costume.

The one i was going to get is from ultrasabers.com and they were around 300 with the sounds and stunt status.

edit: and of course looking on that website again they have a 15% halloween discount right now. Ughhh i cant dump that kind of cash right now because i just spend like ~300 on my ferrets lol (cages suck)

Honestly i dont really care about the stunt since i dont think i feel comfortable smacking a ~300USD object against things, but it MUST have the sounds **** it lol and not look like crap. My friend has 3-4 of these things and every single one of them has 1-3 busted lights in the saber, making a small gap in the light. Rather avoid that lol

I probably have a 2003 honda civic worth but I didn't want one of those anyway.
