help me brainstorm for my Oct 29 session

By EliasWindrider, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello All,

Ok one of my players obligation is going to get wrapped up (or undergo a transformation) next session. The long and short of it is that the "mythical" human crimelord Emil Mola (star wars Keyser Soze, reference to the Usual Suspects) was about to be fed to the Sarlacc 200 years ago but got the B'omarr monks still residing in the basement of (the B'omarr monastery that was co-opted as) Jabba's palace to remove his brain from his body and hide it among the jars of monk brains meditating there. Emil Mola's body was fed to the Sarlacc and what the Galaxy (includding Jabba) was that Emil Mola was a minor human crimelord that Jabba the Hutt fed to the sarlacc 200 years ago but despite that the Mola Cartel has continued to thrive while still apparently under the direction of Emil Mola (who was issuing orders over the holonet). Anyway Emil Mola recently decided that enought time had passed that it was now safe for him to return to the galaxy, because even if he had somehow managed to escape from the sarlacc a human alive 200 years ago would have long since died of old age, so Jabba should be confident that Emil Mola is dead.

So Mola had his consigliere, Baron Alto Endel send an agent to Pembric II in the Kathol sector to steal a 200+ year old blood oath dagger (with Emil Mola's blood on it) from Crev Bombassa's collection housed in his private residence (the top 2 floors of the Grand Erwithat hotel, across the street from the thrusterburn tap cafe. Karsten Eshan (PC human hired gun:enforcer thug) and his long time partner in crime J8 (PC: a rebuilt and mostly reprogrammed HK-50 droid bounty hunter:gadgeteer/sharpshooter) interfered with that theft (Karsten managed to knock the blood oath dagger loose from the agents belt before passing out while the agent limped off, and woke up to find the blood oath dagger (still in its sheath) in the puddle next to him) and returned the blood oath dagger to Crev Bombassa. In doing so they acquired a debt to Emil Mola. If they had knowingly inconvenienced Emil Mola, they'd just be dead, but since they only UNKNOWINGLY inconvenienced him, they were given the opportunity to work of their debt instead (i.e. Emil Mola = Keyser Soze). To do so they were given a series of tasks that they must complete

  1. The first was to get the blood oath dagger (Crev Bombassa owed them a favor so they just had to ask for it)
  2. Next was to obtain a Ysalamir
  3. then they had to get an "experimental bacta tank" (actually a spartii clone cylinder)
  4. and next session deliver a clone of Emil Mola to Jabba's palace (frozen in carbonite) to have Emil Mola's brain transplanted into it

Also NPC Ziggy, child hood friend of another PC Vaesha Tarn (hot sarcastic blue twi'lek female pilot, and unwilling adult holovid star [revenge porn], player left the game so the character is being written out this session) and uber slicer (one of the five best on Coruscant) extraordinaire, who is dying because of his body is wasting away due to a genetic disorder, is going to have his brain transplanted into a clone of a handsome blue male twi'lek (Vaesha's ex who posted the revenge porn and did a lot of other nasty stuff) Ka'rin Bel. It turns out that Ziggy was already working with Emil Mola and was the one who convinced Mola to not kill Karsten and J-8 and instead given them the chance to work of their debt. Ziggy was extremely helpful in the acquisition of the spartii clone cylinder and has sliced them out of trouble on numerous other occasions.

So the Mola cartel hunted down 50 beings that Jabba put bounties out on and had them frozen in carbonite. The PCs who are known for frequently working for Grondo the Hutt, in fact one of the PCs is THE fixer for Grondo the Hutt who dispenses jobs to the rest of the PCs and got another PC Tal Seario (direct descendent of Pollard Seario, look him up on wookieepedia) elected as the CEO of Czerka (he was being written out of the story line) and Grondo got appointed by the Hutt ruling council as the representative of Hutt interests on the Czerka board of directors.... so basically Grondo is an up and coming Hutt. The 50 bounties frozen in carbonite are officially/nominally a gift from Grondo to Jabba. (Grondo is participating in this deception because he has a monopoly of all illicit trade on the planet Aleron in the Tapani freeworlds region through the Mola Cartel). In reality, the 50 carbonite slabs with lowlifes frozen in them is just a diversion so they can sneak another 3 carbonite slabs (with the clone of Mola, the clone of Ka'rin Bel and the real Ziggy in them) into Jabba's palace.

I'm thinking of having Jabba unfreeze one of the carbonites to check to see if it really is the lowlife bounty they are claiming is in it, and then Jabba is going to drop the unfrozen lowlife into the monster pit (but this is before the rancor) with a giant crab creature and 5 of it's young in there with it, and one or two of the PCs getting dropped in with it and the PC(s) in the pit have to kill the adult crab creature.

And at the first part of the session they go to Coruscant to pick up Ziggy, oh and there's going to be an auction of the the superior raider arms nova viper blaster, holster, and Kamperdine Armored Tailored Jacket that Thad Bane (you've probably heard of his infamous uncle, Cad Bane) used to perform what is quite possibly the fastest quick draw ever recorded (2 triumphs and 3 successes on the cool check for the quick draw and another triumph on the subsequent attack roll), to take out a somewhat reknowned mandalorian gunslinger (who rolled 1 triumph and five successes on her quickdraw), Cad Bane was there and the Boba Fett survived (and escaped) but the rest of the hit squad he led in the assassination attempt of Tal Seario died. So because of the 5 holovid recordings of that failed assassination attempt/impossibly fast quick draw... well he became possibly the most widely recognized sentient in the galaxy... so anyway Thad Bane got the Biggest Fan talent for free... and he's probably going to get $50K from the auction right at the beginning of the session.

So that's what I have planned, but it's not enough to fill a five hour session... I'd kind of like to add a mild horror aspect or maybe a whole scene around having an escape from Jabba's palace but I want them to sneak Mola Out so that Jabba is none the wiser... so maybe you guys could suggest some other ideas.

So I know that 20 of you have read this thread and nobody has responded.

I get there's quite a bit of of plot complexity there and maybe you're thinking "what can I add?", but honestly I'd like you all to just throw out ideas. What are tatooine/jabba's palace themed plot twist.

Like maybe Boba Fett or some other interesting bounty hunter is in the palace when they show up. Tie in's to the original trilogy or legends (excluding Vong) are good in my book. Maybe Jabba gives them a job to do on Tatooine to keep them busy while he looks into them (what kind of tatooine job?). Really this is throw ideas up against the wall to see what sticks.

Aurra Sing is there, and Jabba has had to issue an order that she and Boba not start a little war on the spot. Because why not!

But, you know, accidents are an awful thing! Really awful.Too bad some of the PC's were in the crossfire/explosion!

Or Jabba can send the PC's out to help scout out this Sarlaac that is rumored to be out in the open desert.

Ah Ha! Wicked GM brainstorm! The poor sap Jabba unfreezes to feed to the crab is none other than poor ol' fill-in-the-blank family member/obligation/fiance. Let's raise the stakes.

C'mon, GM's! Let's think of the wickedest things we could plot against players in this scenario.

After they kill the giant crab creature, Jabba demands they replace it with a young krayt dragon

have one of the people unfrozen, go insane from carbon freezing sickness and an opportune time attack the PC

The person who buys the holster announces that he challenges Thad Cane (i assume that is one of the PCs) to a duel, and say "Without the holster you are slower then a hutt that has been gorging itself for 5 days"

Sorry, I don’t have any ideas for you.

What you’ve laid out is already so far beyond what I can think of at the moment that I am at a complete loss.

Can anyone help me with a story reason why the PC's would have to hunt a canyon krayt dragon in the Judland wastes at night (the reason they have to hunt it at all is to replace Jabba's giant crab creature, I'm looking for a reason that they would have to hunt it at night, going for the spooky horror aspect here)? And how to keep Emil Mola, and Ziggy safe during this time, while the PCs are all out hunting for the Krayt? And ideas how to make hunting the Krayt suspenseful and scary. I know I want to include womp rats and tusken raiders, I imagine that getting ioned and stolen by Jawas could be "scary" to the droid PCs.

I've got the idea of sending some extra NPCs along (from Grondo the Hutt) to provide additional protection for Emil Mola from the PCs Karsten and J-8, maybe they go along with the PCs to help hunt the Krayt and we have the Krayt (or womp rats or tusken raiders) pick off the NPCs one at a time. Maybe Ziggy and Emil Mola spend the time the PCs are out hunting for the Krayt on board the PCs' ship recovering from the surgery, hibernation sickness, and getting used to having a (new) body.

can someone help me flesh out the details?

Maybe Grondo want’s them to go after a specific Krayt dragon, and this particular one has a lair that is in the territory of another Hutt whom Grondo doesn’t want to risk angering? The other Hutt doesn’t care so much about the Krayt dragon itself, but trespassing on his territory would be disastrous.

So, the party has to go hunting the Krayt dragon during the time when the Krayt itself will be hunting, which means going out at night.

Maybe there are “spectators” there to ensure that the PCs don’t accidentally trespass on the territory of the other Hutt?

Which means that the hunters are the hunted!

Why not have the krayt Dragon hunt them instead.

Jabba is angry that they killed his crab so he sends them out in a skiff to capture a krayt Dragon. But he's angry enough to sabotage the skiff and leave the party stranded in krayt Dragon territory with night approaching.

You could always give them a time limit to acquire said Krayt Dragon. Then with travel time and to make the time frame, it will have to be done at night or anger another hutt. Somehow my group tends to have all of the hutts angry at us.

Hmm I like the idea of a broken down skiff (Jabba sabotages it) and hunting the krayt when the krayt goes hunting. I'll do both. What else do you have for me? How can we tie in womp rats (basically dire wolf sized rats) hunting the party or maybe the PCs first hunt the womp rats as bate for the krayt?

The Womp rats are hunting them as they hunt the krayt dragon. Throw them into the combat as a surprise ambush just when the PC's think they might have a handle on things.

I'm a big fan of GM surprises ;)

You could hit them with a sandstorm and have them seek shelter in a cave (wamp rat lair)

That's a pretty awesome idea

just ordered a young krayt dragon wotc mini on ebay and a desert skiff mini (missing card) from Troll and Toad (they didn't have a krayt dragon in stock)

A sandstorm is also a good way of advancing the clock. If you want the krayt Dragon encounter to happen at night you could have the sand storm abate after dark.

That's an awesome idea, i'm going to use it

Easy, Zombie Jawas w/ Force Powers come in w/ Gaffe Sticks & Lightsabers...then they bite & chase after your guys!

I'm not feeling the zombies, but jawas with say "space leprosy" or "space bubonic plague" would work because jawas are supposed to be rodents

Jawas are great because there can be anything hiding under those robes, any diminutive races the party has fallen foul of can launch a jawa shaped ambush.

Why are the friendly jawas suddenly flying and dropping thermal detonators?

Because you've been ambushed by the fearsome toydarian bounty hunting guild you rescued the wookie princess from last season. Surprise.

And there sandcrawler is full of Trandoshan hired guns.....Because the toydarians had been hired by them to kidnap the princess and they're both pretty mad at you!

A rival hutt is making a move on Jabba's territory, the only way for him to sneak around the desert is inside a sand crawler (pimped out on the inside to look like a mobile palace). To maintain the subterfuge he can only hire thugs under 3 foot tall so they can dress like jawas.

The party discover this secret and are besieged by an array of midget aliens.

can anyone help me with a minor wolrd in hutt space near nal hutta/nar shadda but not one of those, basically I need a world where a carbon freezing facility in a warehouse large enough for a consular class cruiser to park in would not be out of place but preferably a minor-enough-world that there wouldn't have been a lot of sentients very interested in what would have been in the warehouse. It's basically just a diversion, the party's ship already carrying 53 humanoids frozen in carbonite need to fake loading up 50 carbonite slabs with noone not in on the ruse being inside to see that they don't actually load up the ship with 50 carbonite slabs there.

They got the 53 carbonite slabs (50 of which contain lowlifes that Jabba put bounties on) on Coruscant, but their employer, Grondo the Hutts, needs Jabba to believe they picked them up on a world in hutt space so that Jabba will believe that the 50 lowlifes with bounties on them are a gift/tribute from Grondo rather than a diversion to sneak 3 humanoids into the B'omarr monks that still reside in Jabba's palace (which was originally a B'omarr monastery that Jabba let the brain-jar monks continue to reside in because they didn't resist when he took over)

The page at http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hutt_Space/Legends lists all sorts of Legends information about known Hutt Space systems, routes, species, maps, etc….

That would be my starting point for a story like this.
