A little bit of paint and a little bit of glue

By Force Majeure, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Yeah, the Photobucket tribulations continue so I moved over to Imgur today. There is far less spam and the buckets outages are getting increasingly frustrating.

Now you have to post your Purple and Pink, hehehehe. ;)

I've used tinypic since I started posting pictures on the internet but I just made the switch to imgur today because all my links broke :(..

Here's my E-wing. I like the color combination, but I think my paint went down a little thicker than I'd like in some places. Also the dang gun on the starboard broke and wouldn't set properly (I eventually got it), but then the port wing completely fell off.

I'm just glad it's done.

Very nice battle damage, wear & tear! ...and a great, subtle colour scheme...

Thanks Ian!

And if anybody didn't notice, I forgot to add the (ridiculously oversized) laser canons.

Haven't found them yet.

I wonder what they would look like on an A-wing...?

Well Done Majure,

Fantastic Repaints.

My Favorite are your Protectorate Fighters.

I like the two tone finishes you have done on the models, they work well with the shape of the vessel.

Excellent !

All the best,

Barry,

Has it been three weeks? I've been painting the whole time, just not posting. I fouled up a T-65 right from the start. I had issues with my primer and was impatient while waiting for my Simple Green to work it's magic so I went ahead and painted a partially primed/stripped ship. It's not up to my ideal standards so I'm hesitant to post it.

BUT lately at my LGS there's been some love thrown out for the Kihraxz and has been seeing some flight time by different players (all independent of each other, curiously enough) in the last couple of weeks, so here is my simple repaint.

Dear Santa, please bring the Kihraxz and the Star Viper some fixes in the form of a Scum Veterans/Aces expansion. And world peace.

Another lovely scheme, straightforward but with those little touches like the running light, small grey panels and underside shading that give it that lift out of the ordinary into something unique...great stuff ;)

E wing is very cool and I like how it turned out... but your K-Fighter is really kicass!

Your Khiraxz Looks smart !

The dark Brown and Tan underside add a touch of Menace to it :D

Very Nice.

All the best,

Barry.

I was planning on playing my E-wing tonight, but it's missing a cannon! I know the ship model is really just window dressing, but I can't bear to see an incomplete ship (of my own) on the table. Anyone know of a potential replacement? I have seen someone using watch parts, but I'm curious to see/hear what others do/have done when this situation arises.

And here's my StarViper. I love flying Guri, so I thought her ship should be pretty bare, almost stripped down and all business. Nothing flashy here, except for her flying.

I've gone with the watch-strap parts approach to fit cannons onto my 3d-prints of the Skipray and CW Y-wing - lots of different lengths for very little money (from China, via eBay) - although I haven't actually fitted them yet, so don't know how well superglue will bond

Want to know the secret to this? Paint a coat of bright white under it first. Yellow tends to be one of the worst colors for coverage, but if you have a coat of white under it, it'll be easy to get it to cover properly. :)

My plan was to post weekly, but I don't think my budget allows for 52 ships per year; we can't have the kids eat plastic spaceships for breakfast! So it will be when it will be.

Lately I've been flying Boba (Scum) with 4-LOM & a Pirate a lot. I really like how you can build out the Firespray in so many different ways. And the G-1A Starfighter (Mist Hunter) can be so tricksy too: 4-LOM, Stay on Target, Title (barrel roll!), Engine Upgrade, Outlaw Tech, Tractor Beam and Advanced Sensors.

Here are my Scum Brothers:

The Firespray is partly based off another painter's scheme, so if it looks familiar, that may be why.

Also, a few weeks back there was a thread about "painting" with sharpies. I gave it a shot, using metallic ones (a 3-Pack, Gold Silver & Bronze for about $7) and I have to say that as far as the metallics go, I liked it. If you don't want to buy a little paint pot for seldom used colors, this isn't a bad way to go.

I took a stock T-70 and gave it a little touch here and there and I think it made it look pretty smart. Just don't over do it!

Love the colours on that Firespray, and the red works so well on that G-1A, too [especially with just those few yellow accents].

Those metallic's work great for picking out details, although I find with mine [similar colours] that the silver doesn't seem to cover as well as the other two, so sometimes need to make two or three passes if I want a solid result.

Thanks Ian. With regard to the silver (metallic colors really--and yellow too), it's all about underpainting. If you want a brighter silver, you're going to want to paint those areas white (or a lighter color) first. Also after you mix the paint, you have to let it just set up for a few minutes before you use it to get the most out of it. Then paint over the white.

Been trying to get back into "paint-mode" recently, but life stuff has a habit of happening whether you plan for it or not.

I bought the TFA Falcon when it was released and had been wanting to mod the old one. I finally got the inspiration from a comic book panel (that I can't seem to find...). Anyway, it has the basic shape as the ship from the comic, but the placement of the quad-guns on the side of the cockpit, the missile rack and were me.

This ship still needs a name, so if anyone wants to toss out some ideas, I would be open to hearing them.

Love the cockpit design! ;)

Edit: Name... "Ice Maiden" for the blue...

Edited by ianmiddy

You may be able to sort out that just about everything but the cockpit are re-purposed parts of the Falcon that had been chopped off to give it the silhouette that it has. Recycle, Re-use, re-uh... I'm cheap okay?

The cockpit came from a plastic pen that was cut to fit. The panels and mullions (is that what they're called?) that make the cockpit windows are vinyl stickers cut to shape. You know, like bumper sticker material, but I doubled them up to make them thicker and raised enough for the paint to do it's thing.

That is a fantastic falcon mod. Well done.

Majeure......Love your YT-1300 looks fantastic !

Always nice to see a modded YT.

Really need to start my YT-1930 !

As for a name...How about....

"Blue Harvest"

The working title of Return of the Jedi when Lucas Film was in Pre-Production on Episode VI

Great model my Freind,

All the best.

Barry.

I think I like that name. Thanks Barry!

Well, here we are again. This week I have two ships to peruse: the TIE Phantom & the M3-A Interceptor aka "Syck".

I've had both these ships sitting idly by since December, patiently waiting to be played in a game or two. To be honest, the Phantom put me off, mainly due to reading about how wonky or complicated it is to fly, plus I didn't have a clear understanding of the cloaking pre & post nerf. I found it really enjoyable to fly. Highly. Echo in particular, but Whisper is the ship to bring if I mean to be serious.

Here I've painted it black and dry brushed some silver to bring out the details of the rear of the ship. This is a stealth ship after all, so black is stealthy, right? Not an exciting paint job, but I think it suits the Phantom.

And here's my M3-A. I just have the one. So far I've used it as filler and it pops pretty quickly. I think I would have better luck (and more fun) flying it if I paired it with two more Sycks. Not sure if buying the C-ROC is in my future since $60(?) for one Syck isn't cost effective. I'd love to learn & play epic, but so far nobody at my LGS has shown any interest. Maybe things will change by the time it shows up in stores. (And if FFG encouraged more Epic play!) Enough of my quibbles, here's the ship:

The "Stealth" Phantom makes a nice change from all the 'cloaking' ones! ;)
