New DLC

I like using a tablet with a wireless bluetooth speaker. This way you get more atmosphere with the sound but you can still pass the Tablet around for player interaction without it getting in the way. Tablet is big enough to get the best affect with visuals and puzzles, but small enough and portable for the best interaction. :)

Forgive my ignorance, but can't you run Steam on a tablet?

On a Windows tablet, probably yes. On an Android tablet, you can run Steam (for certain features), but not play any games that come on Steam. So you couldn't use Steam on Android to manage purchases in another app run on Android.

Forgive my ignorance, but can't you run Steam on a tablet?

Technically there is a steam app for android tablets but it only gives you access to the steam community with your account, eg your library, friends list, forums, messaging chat etc, it doesnt actually allow you to run any of the programs/games that you have on Steam.

However..

A way you can actually do it is by using a desktop mirror program/app, Eg "Splashtop" which is an app/program that basically just mirrors your entire desktop-pc onto your tablet, connected through your wifi or internet. So essentially you can do that and actually run steam and the Mansions app on your desktop PC but it will mirror to your tablet so you can view it and control it via your tablet.

So if you bought the DLC on Steam, then ran it on a PC downstairs but played Mansions upstairs using your tablet as a mirror, it would appear like running the steam app on your tablet. Essentially the Splashtop app just stream your desktop display to the tablet screen and relays input (touchscreen/mouse) commands back to the pc, kind-of like a remote control.

So in some ways, the solution is to buy everything on Steam to play on desktop/laptop and for those times you need it on tablet, mirror to an app such as Splashtop. Not as ideal as cross-platform purchasing but it would do the job :)

It would be really easy if you could unlock a key to use it one time in each platform. Anyway, I like using tablet, passing it around, and streaming the app in a smart tv.

This does seem like the best way to do it. When you purchase the scenario, it could just give you one key that works once on each platform, or one 1-time key for each platform.

The end of the article announcing the new expansion today also mentioned that there would be a new scenario for the core game gaming this winter BEFORE the new expansion comes out next year.

Is this in theory or in practice? Because if this actually works like this, works as in not buggy as hell, it is brilliant.

For the price of the base game and both expansion one could buy a really cheap windows surface tablet which can double as a lap top. The real question is, outside MoM, would it be useful? Probably more so than buying an apple or google tablet with this game in mind. Of course buying a fully capable ASUS Transformer would make the device very capable, if you are into mobile computing.

As the tablets become more powerful and steam gets more and more tablet app like software on their site, it would make a windows 10 tablet much more appealing. Be interesting to see how all this plays out as as steam, google play and iTunes all become direct competitors of each other. Microsoft may make a come back because of steam. None of these guys are going anywhere but yes, once you buy into one platform, you are locked in. Why Windows is so far behind at this point.

Yep... this confirms that the official tweet about the $2.99 scenario pack coming this winter is referring to multiple new scenarios (presumably $2.99 each).

So the new monkey wrench thrown into the mix here is the code for the new scenarios which surely comes in the box. I am guessing that code will only be good for one platform?

Hopefully it will be a free download as before but useless unless one bought the expansion so we can move between platforms without having to buy another physical box.

Unlikely to be a code at all, just that to get them you need to enable all expansion content. Item and condition cards alone should stop people without the expansion playing the scenarios.

This is in practice from the aspect that I have used splashtop on my android tablet to watch dvds that were playing on my pc downstairs. As its just a mirror, a steam game should be no different to the dvd software.

I do not know if the usual app version of the software has differences to steam version due to screen size.

The steam version would mirror to your tablet though.

Get splashtop and see if it works to your phone

I have zero experience with windows tablets

The post has now been edited to specify that it's ONE new scenario this winter. :(

Yeah, I was given the impression that they were only going to release a SINGLE scenario this winter. Seems some people are comparing to Road to Ledgend in which FFG has released and (hopefully) plans to release full compaigns that contain many scenarios each at a $9.99 price point for each.

To be honest, I would prefer that FFG put all their time and effort into making more scenarios and not worry about physical content at this point (other than maybe some additional item/spell cards). Between the core box and the 1e/2e Re-release content, there is more than enough physical content to facilitate many more scenarios. Also, it would be nice if they could add additional variety to the existing scenarios and re-implement the scenarios from 1e (would love to see a 2e King in Yellow scenario). For whatever reason, FFG has been slow to update the content for their digital companion apps, but it looks like this might change next year. Anyway, as the heart of MoM 2e is the app, it just seems like that is what they should be focusing on first.

Well in my opinion, more expansions with lovely lovely stuff is always nice. New scenarios based on what we already have is also great. And actually dont need more variation in the scenarios that are already there, other than 1 major thing.

The ending voiceover and small epilogue text needs to be more appropiate. In most scenarios no matter how far you get, if you lose you will get the (Fellow investigator dead, you decide to leave)

Early in most scenarios that is fine by me because you are not deep enough in the story to actually get stopped from leaving. However especially in the late game in most scenarios it is just very strange and ending with a sour taste on an otherwise great narrative experience.

The scenarios its been the most annoying is in the endgame of the two 5 star scenarios. But it might be just as bad in the others i just havent lost those as much.

Spoilers for the 2 5-star scenarios

In scenario 3 as long as you are still trying to save the family, it's ok to say, oh our friend died. Screw this family and lets get out of here.

However when later the monster spawns and it specifically says its hunting the investigators, having an ending where we casually leaves just seems strange.

Same with dearly departed, where if you get to the "bad" endgame where you dont get to the roof/cellar in time and the Shoggoth spawns to kill you, then it seems strange that iit says you have to kill it to escape but apparently if just one of you guys die, then the rest escape automatically.

Furthermore if a player ends the game by the Offering to Shub or The Pyromania there should be an epilogue for that as well since again it takes you out of the narrative in a rather unsatisfying way.

Compared with alot of the other features people want this should be a very cheap fix and should fix (for me at least) maybe the biggest reason i get pulled out of the narrative.

What I mean by more variation is not having the exact same experience every time with, say, Escape from Innsmouth (other than the direction the mob travels being left vs right) or not being just different maps and creature spawns but with the same narrative progression. If we had dozens of scenarios available right now, this would't be such a glaring issue. But with the dearth of scenarios and the time it is taking FFG to release more, it's obvious we need the varied narratives that 1E had back so that you don't always know going into a given scenario what the final outcome is going to be. For instance, Cycle of Eterninty might have several different maps based on the content you own, but the core narrative is still the same no matter what (stop the same person from completing the same ritual using the same methods every time). In 1E, the map might have been the same, but the narrative and thus the mystery you were trying to solve had many different possible combination. The antagonist could change along with their motivations and methods in each subsequent play through of a given scenario. This in turn fueled the mystery of the game which to me is the main point of playing MoM in the first place: to participate in and solve a mystery. As if stands now, I feel like MoM 2E is more of a dungeon crawl in the vein of Descent than a Lovecraftian take on other world mystery.

They seem to sort of addressed this with at least one of the two new scenarios that was released last month, but as I have only played that particular one once so far, I can't say for certain. One thing is clear, if we are only going to be given a small handful of scenarios per year, they need to make a compelling reason for us to want to play those same scenarios over and over again while we wait for them to release the next one.

I hope we will see this someday
