So, fantasy flight posted on their facebook, the next dlc for mansions comes in the winter for $2.99.
New DLC
Awesome. I just wish it was sooner!
Perfect! I was really hoping this is the route they would take. I will gladly pay 3 bucks a scenario as they are released and focus on expanding the playable content with the existing materials. As it stands right now between the 1st edition content and the new 2nd edition content there is more than enough monsters/investigators/tiles to go around. Bring on the scenarios!
I am debating if I should grab the expansions right now or wait until the current investigators/monsters get boring and add a bit more spice.
Super cool! Except that it means they are almost certainly not going to add user-created scenario support. ![]()

That was obvious since release. Official support for user generated content never provides profit for the company. There is no point to provide support for that.

One doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the other. They need to keep releasing content, and that means new scenarios.
However, I also doubt we'll ever see an official scenario editor.

Definitely agree with this. Scenarios is the obvious way to go!
In so long as the scenarios are good, I am buying them and $3 is not much at all.

Well Miniature Market just got more of the expansions in stock........
BTW, nice avatar ![]()
So happy to hear about this. I will gladly hand over $3 for a scenario given the entertainment value I can get from just a single scenario. Granted we don't know the size of this DLC (is it just a couple of rooms or more like the scenarios we have today). Bravo FFG. Now the long wait in anticipation for this content. ![]()

Also very happy to see there's more coming via the app. They also recently announced a seemingly random-ish dungeon creator for the Descent app and I hope MoM gets a similar treatment too. Not that I don't like more scripted scenarios that have been released so far, but a Lovecraft dungeon crawl would be great too.
Ya a Lovecraft never ending house of horrors would be cool, similar to the delve. Very challenging but with a purpose.
I did end up grabbing one of the expansions, not to derail this thread but holy crap do you ever get a lot for your money in those. You basically double your monster and investigator count and gain a lot of cool new tiles. My group really enjoyed the scenario as well, our favourite so far for sure.

I really enjoy the expansions, and I wonder how they will implement them into the DLC scenarios. The 4 base scenarios don't seem to use the expansion/1st edition tiles too much (particularly the Forbidden Alchemy and Call of the Wild tiles, due to the nature of these tiles compared to the base game). It would be a shame for the DLC to not take advantage of the variation they offer.
Similarly, I'm unsure as to whether FFG will create many DLC scenarios that can only be played if you have the expansions, as they will want as many people as possible to buy the scenarios. On the other hand, more scenario support for the expansions would encourage more sales of the physical stock.
Generally, I'm excited about this model they're following. It will be interesting to see how everything comes together.
I believe how they did it for Descent is that you just need the core, but again having the expansions will expand the monsters you face and tiles you see. But as you said this can often feel like a last minute addition or even out of place when mixed with the core components. So what Descent did is that with their new campaign, The Delve, you get X amount of missions with the campaign itself but you gain even more if you own certain expansions. So I could see them releasing scenarios where you can play it without the expansions, however if you DO own them then you gain this extra step or maybe the scenario goes from 1-1.5 hours to 2-2.5 hours as extra story elements are added etc.. I am sure they will figure out a way to incorporate the expansions without alienating those that don't have them as they have with Descent, because as you said there is money to be made.
If they start releasing more scenarios, we might find some will come with a sticker saying only available if you have x or y. At least I hope so.
My main wonder is whether/how/if we can sync DLC between steam and the phone app? I'm using both depending on occasion.

Typically, you don't. Accounts for steam, google play and iTunes are completely different. FFG would have to have the app connect to their own server, some how verify you are who you say you are (no account sharing) and then sell you the DLC directly while not pissing off steam/google/apple. I am thinking if you are using more than one service you'll be double paying.

And that's going to suck. I prefer using my laptop since my phone screen is too small and strains the eyes and it still has the annoying sound bug in android (any incoming notifications cause the sound to cut out permanently, including low battery or any other system notifications). But its not really convenient to take the laptop with if I play away from home. Not that the phone is all that much better in terms of mobility since the battery drains before I can even finish the first scenario, let alone any of the others.
Ok, no one thinks this way and it is microsoft's fault, but windows 10 can do tablet form factor and they are available fairly cheap. So steam can be done on a tablet, that tablet can be used as a lap top and it comes with a fully capable OS.

In my case its my work laptop. I just cannot afford a tablet. If I didn't have the laptop I'd use my mobile probably, just wish it was more convenient to use my phone. The idea of paid DLC is actually worrying me now... currently, if you needed to, you could just install the app on a friend's tablet if you wanted to, but now purchases will be locked to your account. What happens if you switch from Android to something else? I'm actually hoping the DLC won't be handled by Steam/Android/AppStore... rather the DLC should be included in the app automatically, with an unlock option linked to a sign in to FFG, maybe the same sign in you use on the website/forums?
This is a good point actually, my wife takes the tablet when she travels for work (which is often) and then I use steam on my desktop.. but if the two aren't linked. This is fine for the first one or two but as they release more and more and if some have an increase in price.. it would add up fast trying to buy two versions.

I do agree with you and wish it was account-bound to FFG thought its likely it wont be.
If you buy on Steam, technically if a friend also has Steam installed on their PC, you could sign-out of their account and sign-in to yours on their PC, use the DLC for your game, then sign-out of Steam afterwards, so you would still be able to use the app DLC of your account via steam on anothers PC.
Its still a shame as I would have liked to be able to use laptop at home and tablet when away, but plan on my DLC being through steam.
Its something I have to consider very carefully, my laptop being for work, I don't own it. So if, for some reason, I can't use it anymore, and I've purchased all my DLC on Steam, its not like I can take my desktop around with me - or for that matter, even easily move it to another room in the same house! Maybe I should look into purchasing a cheap tablet at some point, but right now Mansions is the only game I have where I need the tablet, so not worth it yet.
I'd be more willing to use my mobile as default if they fixed the sound issue. I can live with the screen size annoyance.
I'd say skip DLC being separate purchases on download stores and manage it as in-app microtransactions. That way you've got some more control over the format, as a developer. ID verification could, as mentioned, either be FFG specific and/or, as many do it these days, login with fb/google.
I'm *almost* inclined on getting a tablet just to solve it for myself, but i'd need to sell some of my current commodities to justify it.
