Order of Operations Document

By Democratus, in Star Wars: Armada

I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this. If it is, I will request a move.

I'm working on a document to help my friends with the order of things in Armada. In particular, when do various upgrade cards activate.

To that end I have a draft of a turn-order document:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uKnO8OqE2qqte7T8dGfJkuCM1_gcbSzb33A14JHCddg/edit?usp=sharing

I'd love any feedback, opinions, or random insults. :)

Spend accuracy is a dice modification, and thus should be listed under dice modification, not as a separate step.

Parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, squadrons

Yeah. I put that there because it is listed as a separate step in the RRG.

Agreed that it's kind of a redundant step.

Its a Separate Dot Point, not a Separate Step. The reason for that is its a Universal Spend Modification that does not require an Upgrade Card to let you do, so its a "reinforcement", rather than a Separate Step.

Additionally, Steps 'C' and 'D' are the same timing, and thus Interchangeable... (There is nothing wrong with executing a Squadron Command before an Engineering Command, and vice Versa)

Squadron phase - add ROGUE keyword as exception to the Either/Or.

I thought ACMs and APTs hit immediately. Meaning an ACM removes two shields that your opponent would be able to redirect on the spend defense tokens phase.

They occur as the first step in the Damage Step, the step after Spend Tokens.

A Note should be added to state with Defense Tokens:

Scatter & Evade - Resolve Immedaitely (in Step 4).

Contain - Resolves at start of Step 5, to counter Default Critical

Brace - Resolves when you determine number of points of Damage

Redirect - Resolve when damage is applied point-by-point.....

Even though they all have to be declared in Step 4.

Always been division before multiplication in the uk.

Americans huh

Please excuse my dear aunt sally

According to the research I just did it apparently makes no difference. I dunno which is the better way to Maths, I defer to Asia.

2/4*2=?

It matters

Nope. Read a thing by people who understand it better. It makes sense that it wouldn't matter, because then one would be demonstrably wrong and stop being taught.

? it totally makes a difference

Mad is just trollin'

BEDMAS baby.

way to derail a perfectly good thread

THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE THINGS!

Shhhhhhh.

I did look into it though. Best I understand it is when you have something written like that, it should have brackets. That was my takeaway.

Barring brackets, you go left to right with addition/subtraction and division/multiplication at their respective steps.

Edit: You guys are trolling me aren't you

i would wait until the next FAQ arrives, which we hope is very soon. X-Wing's last FAQ has a wonderful operation sequence diagram and I'm hoping the delay of ... everything is due to writing one for Armada.

Intel Officer is after you roll the dice.

Will they FAQ mathematics order of operation?

Thanks to both of you. I'm removing the "Spend Dice" step.

As for Squadrons/Engineering, my players asked me to make a definitive final order for them just so they can stick to it. I just kind of made an executive decision to always to engineering first. In a later "advanced" draft, I will note them as interchangeable.

Intel Officer is after you roll the dice.

Absolutely right. Thanks!

It was VERY educational going through every upgrade card and noting where it took effect. If nothing else, I have a better grasp on how the upgrades interact with each other.
