R2D2 Crew & R5 Astromech

By Schu81, in X-Wing

Hello everyone!

Have you ever thought about this combination before?

R2D2 Crew and R5 Astromech could be used on one of the new ARCs together.

Question:

If the ARC does not have a shield in the end phase, can I reload a shield with R2D2 and in case of bad luck, when I have to flip a damage card... can I turn it right back with R5?

I think because R2D2 says "at the end" you probably can't flip the crit until next turn. I don't have the flow chart handy, though.

I don't think so. R2-D2 says "at the end of the end phase" while R-5 Astromech says "during the end phase." So R-5 would have to go first.

Thanks for your answers so far, that's what I thought.

Anyway, I still hope it might be possible because "during the end phase" might very well be at the end of the end phase as well.... like maybe you could choose ;)

It'd cost you a point more than the superior astromech version of R2-D2 for an arguably weaker effect.

R2-D2 crew has never been individually strong: his power came from being stacked with other damage mitigation effects.

That would be a fun combo and not at all overpowered. Not the best shield healer but if it worked like that it would be one to consider. R2-D2 (crew) plus R5-P9 has a similar problem. Since R5-P9 triggers first, R2-D2 (crew) can't activate.

But R2-D2 (crew) and R5-D8 can work together to give a ship hull and shield healing. You still have the R2-D2 risk.

Personally, I'm more a fan of Nien Numb+ R2-D2. Combine it with Engine and PTL and you've got a pretty fast ship that can outrun most other ships giving chase, all while recovering shields.

If you're going to use both of your slots on damage mitigation, you might as well go full tilt and bring R2D2+C-3PO.

Issue with c3p0 is theres plenty of ways to completely negate him. Tractors, outmaneuver, juke, zuckuss, and certain pilot abilities. Once you hit 0 agi you cant even use him so tractors are the obvious one.

That being said i dont like the R2D2 crew. In theory if you are only missing shields hes cool, cause it just gives you a shield back and theres no cards to flip (says nothing about if you have a damage card, just no shields). But 4pts for a potential self-crit risk is way too steep.

I'd rather have the repair guy on there if i were using R2crew. Which ive thought about putting on Thane as it is lol (until i realized he would just be ignored until last so wasted points)
